Selena's face glimmer with delight and caution. The day floods her with tons of gym challenges and when the last one has finished, she's approached by a familiar lady she has not yet met.

“I remember you from the hotpot.” The gym leader stands up and offers her hand. “Don't worry, you've just given me ample time to rest.”

She takes the lead in guiding her towards the courtyard where most matches happen. Unfortunately, it is wrong of her to assume she's a psychic-type trainer but she understands how others might have taken the idea that it is what she is fond of using. After all, the gym is the home of Mystery Badge, and good intuitions merit earning themselves a badge.

“To be honest, I thought FERNANDO SILPH has sent you here for something other than a match.”

She chuckles, her foot tapping into the pavement on her side of the arena. A retractable rock shelf emerges from the ground which reveals a collection of pokeballs Selena's been using for her matches.

“Let's give all our best, shall we?”

“I figure 'workaholic' is his middle name, somehow.”

She jokes as she picks two balls from the shelf, then lifts her foot up to return the rock shelf back to its place. Upon releasing the vivillion into the air, the pinkette tosses her sceptile's capsule into her side of the field.

“His name is Ascalabus. I rarely use him in gym battles, but don't be so kind to him.”

Yui will notice the radiant pendant orb that is attached on the pokemon's scarf, similar to one of Selena's bracelet. Ascalabus's eyes are narrow and focused, watching the butterfly with carefulness and wary.

“You start!”

Yui begins her first move, her vivillion dancing to some unknown rhythm that leaves Ascalabus wondering in confusion. Where could the true butterfly be? Its speed seems to create afterimages of itself, but the sceptile is confident he and his trainer can overcome this hurdle.

“Copy that, Ascal!”

The sceptile then multiplies its own figure like that of the vivillion, DOUBLE TEAM matching each of bug-type's form.

“Stay vigilant, observe what it's about to do!”

Because of its boosted agility, he knows he won't be able to outspeed his opponent, but he takes advantage of timing and precision to deal with its prey.

It's as Selena expected that the vivillion will try to attack from a distance. But with this kind of tactic, the butterfly won't be able to see where the true Ascalabus resides.

“Lunge at it!”

As the gust blows the afterimages of its quiver dance, the sceptile charges with ROCK SLIDE. A wide scale of rocks cascade over the bug-type, intending to bury it on the ground. The gym leader doubts the defenses she's raised can handle the ones that are more physical-hitting.

“My gym challenge is all about intuition. You have be on your best wits if you want to win my badge.”

“Now, that's indeed quick thinking. Keep it up!”

The pinkette smiles as she's feeling the heat of the battle, her face contorts with Ascalabus's as the grass-type endures the noise.

“Get it over with and do the thing again!”

The sceptile shakes its head, trying to get out the buzzing in his system and lunges with its hands sweeping upwards, gathering the rocks from the arena, then raining them ROCK SLIDE again towards Yui Fujin Silph's vivillon.

The bug-type move could have been fast and effective but Selena knows the rock-type attack does more damage to the bug and flying-type.

Vivillon manages to evade the cascading rocks; its trainer's intuition allows it to do much recalibration with its movements before it lunges with draining kiss. However unfortunate the situation is for the grass-type, however, Ascalabus decides to meet her attack with one of his own.

“Block with your arms!”

The sceptile unsheathes its bladed arms glistening in purple glow, as CROSS POISON is attempted to prevent the bug's lips from touching its body.

“Nice intuition! I actually hope you will do that.”

Unfortunately, the attack will not do much even as to poison the butterfly. However, the closed distance between them is advantageous as sceptile prepares another opportunity to strike.

Ascalabus endures through the whole ordeal, seeing the impact of his venomous attack that has succeeded to block off the vivillon. The buzz of the bug-type has become more aggressive, more persistent in causing more damage against the gecko. But Selena also knows it takes just one more attack.

“Finish it off!”

The sceptile has his arms on his ears, but on his trainer's commands, he brings it up for a repeat performance of a fatal move: ROCK SLIDE.
