Welp, the time had come! Yui wanted to challenge Fernando to a gym battle. She knew if she was going to take on the gym challenges she'd eventually have to face him. So, may as well get it out of the way. She always looked up to fernando and the reason she wanted to even battle him was because she wanted to see if she had managed to grow even a little from her recent gym battles. She signed up for a rather interesting format, she created a team that would really thrive working together so a 5 vs 5 would be ideal conditions for her. She arrived at the gym and already encountered an issue, she handed her identification card to the front desk...and the people didn't believe she was a Silph.

[break][break] Yui sat there stunned "Excuse me! I am Yui Fujin Silph! Hello?! I know Im not as popular as stormy or go out much but I promise im a silph! Call fernie!" She said as she pouted. A lot of people didn't even know of Yui's existence since she usually kept to just working in silph co and being a shut in for the most part. The people who generally knew of her were Business partners and people closely tied to the Silphs and her siblings. She decided to sit in the lobby and wait for Fern to come fix this or for them to give up and let her in as she did issue a challenge regardless.

The voice on the intercom is hushed in an awkward embarrassment of having to verify her identity. With a solemn and apologetic nod, the receptionist ushers her in. "It's beyond this hall. Just go straight and you'll come across the battlefield." She points to the only hall behind them and it looks as long as it is boring. Fernando's minimalistic nature shines in his domain, echoed by the alabaster halls that never quite seem to end.

"Good luck, challenger," she says with a meek peep as Yui leave for her challenge.

When the steel doors to the battlefield open, Fernando is already waiting out in the open. His particular team for her challenge has already been set and rest upon his hips. His eyes narrow in on her figure, knotted as he scrutinizes her for challenging him in the first place.

"This will be a five on five challenge with all Pokemon present at the field at the same time. Squad battles are different than the standard matchups you'll be used to."

A small smirk came across her face as Yui became smug as Fernando came to her rescue. She stuck her tongue out at the lady who didn't believe her. It was obvious that she told the truth now and the woman's mortified face gave Yui all the satisfaction she needed. She walked silently down the hall as she observed the environment of the gym. It seemed to really match him at least, sleek, clean, minimalist. She let out a loud sigh as she walked down the hall annoyed with the previous troubles she faced with people not believing her being a silph. Was she really a silph? The question burned in her mind but she had to put it away for if she was too distracted Fernando would no doubt beat her. [break][break]

"Hello to you too Fernando, it's lovely to see you again. Yes that is a new shirt I have on." she said teasing him a bit. However she wouldn't continue with it too far because Fernando would probably end the challenge entirely if she kept going. "Understood. I'm glad we'll be playing chess again Fernie." she said as she grabbed her five pokeballs she brought with him and threw them all out at once, of course to the untrained eye it seemed like Yui had just brought a random mishmash of Pokémon entirely. But she knew that upon first glance Fernando would be able to figure out what the goal of her team was. "But this time I'll be taking your King." she said as she slowly began to get serious.

Fernando taps each Pokeball strewn across his belt. In a rhymical fashion, they release his prepared set of Pokemon geared for the Time Attack Challenge.

His Pokemon of choice are Lapras, Greninja, Abomasnow, Exploud, and Electrode.

"You should know, you won't win this with your current line up."

There's no way to be certain but on paper the advantage is clear. Fernando's eyes narrow as he scans her team, familiar with the bulk of them and pondering if there's a way she could upset the match.

After a split second he concludes that no, she cannot.

"Battle Routine Set!"

The call to being starts and Fernando wastes little time. Giving the first move to the challenger is a courtesy he only shows to no-name trainers he entertains as part of his role.

"Execute!"

They may not be able to adjust to the opponent's Pokemon on the fly but these Pokemon know the battle plan for this type of challenge. They all shield around Lapras as it starts to wail with an eerie PERISH SONG. Regardless of the volume of the song, its supernatural hymn dooms all within the vicinity to faint in the next THREE TURNS.

Fortunately, Fernando's Pokemon will finish the battle before then.

His Electrode fires off a SONIC BOOM at the opposing Stonjourer seeing as its the biggest target and the easiest to hit. Likewise, his Abomasnow fires off several ICE SHARDS at the same target. His Exploud takes a few steps forward before bursting out in an UPROAR to attract their attention, preventing those present from being put to sleep.

Only his Greninja, the most experienced of the five, shows an adept sense of battle. It bides its time, forming several hand signs as a SUBSTITUTE is created behind his group of Pokemon.

"That's what you think. But I've surprised you before haven't I?" she said with a small grin plastered on her face, she couldn't let her see that Fernando was getting to her. He'd destroy her in a second if he sensed any weakness, he usually did so in chess. [break][break]

The perish song affects all pokemon on the field. Ah, so this is what time attack meant huh? Of course it did, Yui had to act quickly, her Pokémon were about to be in trouble if she didn't act and she had learned she couldn't hesitate very long or FERNANDO SILPH would take advantage of her hesitation. Yui called out to her cherrim "Cherrim, sunny day!" as the Pokémon launched a ball of light into the sky causing some intense heat as used sunny day. Cherrim's flower gift activates and her ally Pokémon's attack and special defense get a bit stronger, helping them tank fernando's attacks a bit. "Heh you're not as sneaky as you think you are Fernie. I'm not as dumb as stormy! All your Pokémon except for Lapras and Greninja have sound proof as an ability don't they?"She smirked as she believed she saw right through Fernando's aim.

[break][break] He didn't have to win the battle, he just had to wait so yui needed to go on the offense and wipe them out as quickly as she could. She then divyed up her orders "Eevee! Weather ball on Abomasnow! Stonejourner, Rock slide them all! Codey Use Zap cannon on lapras! And gogurt, transform into eevee and use helping hand on eevee!" she said divvying up her orders quickly as they had to move quickly

Fernando does not conversate during his match. Not when he has nothing to add. His roster is clearly presented on each non-traditional challenge hence the 'strategy' aspect of his Gym. Anyone can win should they prepare the proper strategy. Those who don't can still find victory but it adds an extra challenge that only the best trainers can overcome.

When her attacks are executed, they're brought to a quick end. Several of the gym tiles are hoisted above Fernando's Pokemon protecting them from harm. Greninja's MAT BLOCK only works once but its upheaval of the terrain proves impervious to harm. It allows the rest of them to scatter now that the PERISH SONG is in effect.

His Abomasnow approaches the enemy team as the vanguard. Unafraid, the stocky Pokemon plants both its feet into the ground before unleashing a terrible BLIZZARD to subject the entire team to frigid winds and whirling gales. Likewise, his Exploud approaches with a slight slant to the side. It also faces them, proud, uncaring as all of its wind pipes suddenly inhale. The BOOMBURST that blows out soon after causes several explosions within the air, heavy vibrations looking to impact several of Yui's Pokemon.

Electrode remains in its spot, firing another set of SONIC BOOMS at the enemy Stonjourer. Lapras remains behind, looking to also put the pressure onto the same, large Pokemon with its WATER PULSE.

OOF, mat block? Yui smirk though as an idea popped up in her mind "Ditto! Copycat greninja! defend the team!" she shouted as Ditto used Eevee's copy cat to to knock up the mats fernando used earlier and formed them around her pokemon "Nice trick, I''ll borrow it." she didn't like it when Fernando was silent, she could never read his face. While she managed to block the attacks like Greninja but there wasn't much she could do, even if the damage was blocked the perish song's effects continued to tick down. [break][break] She had to get moving, "Eevee use swift on greninja! Cherrim! Use Solar beam on him as well!" She had to take out that Greninja if it was gonna block her attacks. Eevee began to fire star shaped energy that was bigger than a normal swift due to adaptability. Cherrim began to glow as a blast of light forming the solar beam was aimed right towards Greninja. "Stonejourner use rock tomb and trap Lapras with rocks! Porygon fly above and Tri attack from above so she cant escape!" Even if Lapras didn't take a lot of damage from the tri-attack boosted by adaptibility. Yui hoped this was enough to turn the tables against Fernando. The only way she had access to that mat block trick was if he kept using it.

[attr="class","spiral"]The SWIFT, a menace to no end, find their mark. They hunt down the Greninja's SUBSTITUTE and batter them with the constant sound of energy dissipating. However, it takes Cherrim's SOLAR BEAM to really pierce through the makeshift decoy. Unfortunately, by the time both attacks land and they're given a chance to attack again, Greninja has already completed the hand seal to form another SUBSTITUTE.

Both ROCK TOMB and TRI-ATTACK find their mark. Stranded between the large boulders, the Lapras has no room to navigate or evade. Not that it could consider how land-based the arena is but it never hurts to be certain. It reels its head back in pain as it releases a spurt of LIFE DEW in a desperate attempt to mend some of its wounds.

Left unchecked, Fernanod's Pokemon continue the same pattern. It's not unique or creative but training them to adhere to the same strategy proves much easier than the alternative. Abomasnow continues to buffet them with BLIZZARD, Exploud with BOOMBURST, and Electrode with SONIC BOOM.

Dang it, greninja didn't use mat block so yui's Pokémon were wide open this time. The attacks found their marks, luckily some of it was lowered by cherrim's flower gift so they were still able to mitigate some of the damage. She grew frustrated however, the attacks on greninja who was acting as cover for his teammates were getting in the way and stopping her attacks and time was running short. She trapped the lapras and she didn't think it'd be much of a problem for longer since it was focused on healing itself. Time to get greninja, "Ditto! Eevee! Swift greninja! Cherrim use solar beam again on it as well!" . [break][break]

Ditto mimicked eevee's movements perfectly as it imitated the pokemon's attacks, the pair managed to create a barrage of stars that made up swift aimed at the substitute and cherrim's solar beam fired at the substitute left behind to take his for greninja. however she was stumped on what to have stonejourner do, the poor pokemon was getting wailed on and taking the brunt of these attacks with little it could do to stop them so she decided to try something out. "Stonejourner! use gravity the floor tiles!" she said telling her stonejourner to try and block the mats from being kicked upwards to protect his pokemon. "Porygonz! Finish off lapras with a hyper beam!" Codey's body began to glow as a single orb of energy manifested on the tip of it's beak, the beam fired and after a few moments grew even larger as adaptibility enhanced hyper beam's power

The SWIFT and SOLAR BEAM pierce the SUBSTITUTE and find their way onto the Greninja as well. It heaves as its stamina come to a close, barely able to hang on as it tries to leap away. The GRAVITY prevents it from doing so and now it’s exposed, unable to evade or defend against any follow-up attacks. The most it can do is summon some WATER SHURIKENS in a last attempt to whittle down at its attackers.

Likewise, the HYPER BEAM does significant damage to the Lapras. If not for its LIFE DEW, the Pokemon would have been rendered unable to battle. Still, it’s weaning off into unconsciousness as its injures start to stack.

Fernando simply laughs. On paper, the battle seems to be going in the other’s favors, but that’s on a visual cue. His main core has been left relatively untouched.

Abomasnow and Exploud swap into more singular attacks as the ICE SHARD and CRUNCH look to attack the nearest Pokemon. Likewise, Electrode just continues to let out a wash of SONIC BOOMS as the electricity around it crackles.

Soon enough, the PERISH SONG sets in. Greninja and Lapras faint on their own accord.

The attacks onto Yui's Pokémon hit their mark again, however it didn't really matter as even if they did survive the attack Perish song would wipe them out. Yui saw them all drop one by one, slowly as her face turned into one of incredible sadness. Fernando had won, Yui had lost. She fell to her knees sadly as she was so confidant she'd be able to win, her lack of being able to adapt to situations was what dammed her again. She failed once again, in front of Fernando. She offered no words afterword's except by recalling her Pokémon back into their pokeballs. "Thank you for the match." She said as she latched them back onto her belt. [break][break]
"I'll be sure to learn from this.." she said hoping that he'd just let her go, fearing the criticism that'd cut into her like a dagger.

That was terrible. By all accounts, her performance, entrenched in her earlier eagerness, leave much to be desired. Enough so that Fernando can't help but feel the dissatisfaction pool at the tip of his tongue, like bile.
