Gavin nudges the door to Emma Wolfe's office with a foot, leaning against it to shoulder it open as he carries a heavy, sealed box into the space. Though grunts had cleared the space out in preparation for her promotion, she was responsible for filling it with whatever she desired. Gavin has no idea what's inside the box.

Setting it down, he swipes a second ring of keys from his belt. "Catch."

The Klefki's cry mixes with the jingling of what few keys it has been given since being retrieved through the Black Market; one of them is the key to the very same office in which they now stood, but there were two others clinking softly against it.

"About time you could get into your own house." Teeth flash in a brief smile, and he sets the creature's pokeball on the desk.

Emma is standing in the center of her new office, arms crossed and a thoughtful expression on her face. For the first time in a long time - especially within Rocket headquarters, she seems relaxed.[break][break]

And when the door swings open, her expression is lighter than it might normally be. Gavin pushes the door open with his foot, shifting to use his shoulder. He's carrying a box inside and she moves to hold the door for him. As soon as he sets it down, however, and the door soft-closes behind her, she turns around to find a Klefki being tossed at her.[break][break]

The woman catches it, surprise written on her face as she twirls them in her hand.[break][break]

Colour washes from her face momentarily at the meaning behind the gift - and the fact that he was giving her a gift at all. His words only bring that surprise to a head, and she looks up at him.[break][break]

"My own house?"[break][break]

Her voice seems smaller somehow, and her thumb brushes the freshly cut keys. One of them is marked for her office, and the other she knows belongs to the front door of Gavin's house in Fallarbor. There is a third, but for the time being, she's still stuck on his choice of words.[break][break]

"You made me a key to your house?"[break][break]

It is a rare thing, to see Emma Wolfe so relaxed within Rocket's realm. For years, they've kept her leashed and collared as little more than an attack dog to be set upon their enemies.

Rocket is changing, Em. A promise.

She seems caught off guard by the gift, his words, but Gavin is not discouraged; he smiles, in response, a warmth to it that only Emma ever sees.

"Our house," he corrects, for his choice of words had indeed been deliberate. "Now you've no reason not to lock the door, from now on. Dangerous world out there, love. Criminals, assassins..." The smile widens to a grin.

He's smiling at her and she continues to stand opposite him, stunned. The Klefki wiggles in her hand and she lets it go to float off to the side. It seems indignant after being tossed, but the Pokemon goes ignored.[break][break]

Emma can feel that uncomfortable, unexpected quickening of her heartbeat at his insistence and correction. He makes a joke immediately after that manages to bring a smile to her face. [break][break]

"I think it's already too late for that, don't you think?"[break][break]

She leans against her desk, a purposely seductive smirk spreading across her lips. Her brow arches as she watches him.[break][break]

"Perhaps," Gavin agrees, a gentle rumble to the words.

Her smile makes his stomach flutter, the anxious plummet at the rise of a roller coaster. There is hunger in his eyes as he regards her at arms length, gaze sweeping the curve of her figure. Later, it promises as his eyes flick back to hers. They would make the space theirs, just as they've done with his own.

"Rocket expects great things from you, Admin." His smirk curls around the word, savouring it. There is pride in his expression and something more, the Persian with a Pidgey trapped beneath its paw. He cants his head. "It suits you."

In his rumble, her own belly flutters with half-lidded emotion. With him, she's learned to wear them more plainly on her sleeve. She trusts him, and so she lets him see.[break][break]

He sweeps his gaze over her figure, and she shifts her weight to encourage it. She had never been one to appreciate attention drawn to her, never bothered to seek it out. Not even from Freya had she been altogether hungry for her attention - but Gavin was different. His fondness and his faith was intoxicating. She found herself greedy for more.[break][break]

"It's just a pretty title, Gavin."[break][break]

Even still, it was only his pride in her that she cared about. Deep down, she still saw herself as the beast with all claws and teeth.[break][break]

Gavin shakes his head, fervent in his disagreement.

"It's a promise, love." Rocket is changing. She could change, too. She could sheathe her claws, hide her fangs, show them only when she pleased. "You get to choose, now. More than before."

He'd always done his best to pass her work that he thought she'd be comfortable doing, but a Beast was a Beast — there were things expected from them that he, that Emma Wolfe could not avoid. Not anymore.

"Chu-e Choi isn't like to force you; he gets it even more than I do." He also wore the heavy mantle of former Beast. "I certainly won't. That just leaves Walsh, and you know he doesn't step in unless he has to."

Choice held strange connotations within Rocket; there had been a time when it was all but an illusion. You were only free until you tried to tug on the leash, and then the chain pulled tight around your throat. Not now.

"So, as your boss," and Gavin gives Emma Wolfe a cheeky smile, perching on the edge of the desk, "I'm obligated to ask: what are your plans with your new position?"

His tone, threaded with humour, makes no attempt to conceal a genuine curiosity. How would she pick up where the previous admin had left off?

Emma regards him quietly, thoughtfully, and she follows his figure as he approaches. When he leans against her desk, when she feels it groan against both of their weight, she flicks her golden gaze back up to harbor his.[break][break]

He might be hiding his humor behind curiosity, but she answers him honestly. Time and time again she had seen the passion, the fury, the determination he held for Rocket. He had promised her change, had promised her a home within Rocket, and now, with him in his own home -- their home.[break][break]

His curiosity is tinged with humour, smile dancing on his lips, but the gravity of Emma Wolfe's answer sees his expression mature into a more serious gratitude.

"Encourage your own change, as well," he insists, but it's clear her answer pleases him. "I want our grunts loyal. I want them to look out for one another, so that their loyalty will reflect back to us."

Though his heart could be said to bleed more than others in their organization, his motives are not selfless. Rocket is his home, his family — their family. He would kill for them, but he expected them to die for him just the same.

"I trust you not to be too soft." He thinks of peggie vela; softness would not work on her like. "The League will not be soft. On them, on any of us. We can only hide for so long."

"No," he agrees. "You're not."

He'd admired her for all her sharp edges, for the mantle of Beast she'd worn as long as he had known her. With the mantle shed, he admires her now for the strength that burns beneath. She was not just claws and teeth but a cold, steady force to be reckoned with.

The breath in her words steals his own.

His smile curls, a dark and sharp-edged thing that is not meant for Emma Wolfe but for their enemies. "No," he says again. There's a growl to his tone. "We are waiting."
