The morning sun's rays shyly peeks through the dense trees, through Simone's flower shop windows. It's gentle light radiates Simone who is seen at the stove top preparing a light breakfast which consists of toast and eggs. He whistles quietly as the toaster pops up four slices of perfectly golden toast. He reacts to it quickly, grabbing two plates each having two toasts. Simone then spreads some berry jam, a mixture he made himself and spreads it onto the bread. Placing the freshly grilled eggs on top of the bread. He was expecting a visitor, a lovely doctor he met a few weeks ago at the beach - Miss Eva.

Simone neatly arranges the table, making sure everything is nice and tidy for her arrival. He wanted to leave a strong impression after all. The shop is small, cozy. The pleasant aroma of dozens of plants and flowers fill the air of the shop most of them are in a beautiful bloom due to winter practically being over. On the center of the kitchen table is a vase of beautiful blue flowers that Simone felt especially proud of.

Within the shop, Simone's pokemon could be seen. Cake the alcremie had been sleeping on the couch, just like usual. Peony had been sweeping away any dust that got in through the slightly opened shop door. The gentle ding of the shops bell alerted Simone that she arrived, he used the table cloth to dry off his hands. Approaching the door just as she came in, "Miss Eva" Simone beamed, a bright smile tugging at his rosy lips "Welcome to Oldale!"

It had taken a few weeks of intermittent texting for Eva to carve out a time in between appointment to visit Oldale and see @simone again. In the meantime, she had the opportunity to travel through some other parts of the region and she had come across a pokemon she thought Simone would love. In fact, it was in part due to Kamal the Roserade that Eva just had to make the trip out here. Every time she glanced at the recovering grass-type, she thought of the goofy blonde on the beach and his flower shop and she would find herself smiling.

But finally, they made it! The doctor didn’t schedule a single thing for the rest of the day so she wouldn’t be pulled away (unless there was an emergency, of course). Eva arrived in casual dress: a pair of cut off jean shorts and a white tank top covered by a loose fitting, unbuttoned green flannel that really brought out the green in her eyes. Usually, her hair was done up in an extraordinarily messy bun but today she kept it down letting it fall naturally with a subtle curl towards the ends.

When Simone opened the door, she was greeted by an equally enthusiastic smile, “Mister Simone!” she teased, “Very happy to be here,” she stepped inside the shop, the sweet floral scent brightened her smile. She was taken back by the beautiful blooming flowers scattered everywhere. It was easy to tell she was fascinated by the beauty, “Wow! This is absolutely beautiful!” she spun around to get a good look at everything, ”Rooose” Kamal mumbled softly, hobbling into the shop.

“Woops!” Eva lunged to the Roserade’s side, holding his flowery hand gently to help him limp into the shop. The pokemon had a white bandage and splint wrapped around his left leg, “This is Kamal,” she introduced, “I found him in Petalburg Woods, extremely dehydrated with a broken leg. He’s on the mend,” she smiled, letting him hobble further into the shop on his own.

Simone was happy to see her. Glad that she made it to Oldale without any noticeable issues, stepping aside as she entered. He scratched at his chin and didn't hide the pink blush that flushed onto his cheeks when Eva also addressed him formally. An eager smile when she praised the small shop that he maintained. It wasn't much, but Simone prided himself in his work. "Thank you so much Miss, Eva" the response was very bright and cheerful. He took a closer look at the doctor when she came inside, quickly noticing her dazzling outfit and the change of her hair style. "You look very dashing this morning" He complimented with a nod. Simone felt slightly guilty he didn't change up his looks for the visit. Wearing normal comfortable clothes, Simone was a little to busy preparing breakfast that it didn't cross his mind.

The roserade went by unnoticed from Simone. When he was about to lead Eva towards the dining table is when he finally realized that Eva brought a pokemon he hadn't met at the beach. Turning his head to ask about the pokemon, Eva was rather quick to tell Simone all about him. The sight of Kamal was disheartening for the most part, but Simone felt relieved that Eva who was fully capable was looking after the pokemon. "Oh I see" He said trying to be up beat watching as Kamal stumbled inside the shop. Simone felt tempted in helping him out, but seeing how Eva didn't - Simone figured it would be best for Kamal if he also didn't help.

The small rumble of his stomach reminded Simone of the breakfast he had set up before Eva's arrival. A small chuckle escaped him and led Eva towards the kitchen. The dining table was in the center of the living room, which was filled with an assortment of flowers and plants. Simone swiftly moved towards the table, scooting out a chair for the doctor to sit in. "I hope you don't mind my cooking." Giving her a small wink, he moved to sit on the chair that was across from Eva. Taking a sip from the freshly brewed coffee before he dug into the toast.

Just as Simone finished a bite from the food, his attention went back towards Eva. Curious to know how she's been fairing these past few weeks he started some small talk. "When did you discover Kamal in that condition? Was it recent?" Simone figured it had only been a few days - an indicator being the bandages and Kamal's weakened state. His gaze lingered towards Peony, who had been doing her best in supporting Kamal. Simone continued to eat, as he awaited for the doctors response.

Blush crept onto Eva’s cheeks when Simone mentioned she looked dashing. Eva couldn’t help but smile and tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear. She would be lying if she didn’t put a little thought into it. After a few weeks, she wanted to make a good impression, what girl didn’t?

Eva watched carefully as Kamal started to make his way around the shop, relishing the company of the other grass-type and the flowers that bloomed around him. The Roserade smile pleasantly in greeting to Peony, adding a small head bow of thanks when she began to help him through the shop.

“Oooo breakfast!” Eva beamed, happily taking a seat across from Simone, “This looks amazing!” she complimented, leaning forward to take a good whiff of the air wafting off the freshly cooked spread, “You really didn’t have to go through all this trouble,” she mumbled, reaching for the coffee in front of her. In all honesty, Eva was not a great cook. She hated it; Found it messy and time consuming. It was probably just because she wasn’t good at it. She could revive pokemon on the brink of death but couldn’t make pasta . . . to each their own.

“Hmmm,” she contemplated after taking a sip of coffee, “Last week . . . yeah, last week,” she confirmed with a nod, going for the toast next, “Wowwwww this jam is amazing,” she exclaimed after swallowing the bite, “Where’d you get it? Is it an Oldale thing?” she took another bite.

"It was no trouble" Simone said gently with a smile, he was truly relieved to hear that she liked it. It wasn't very frequent that he cooked for others, so this time he decided to keep things simple and light. He felt extremely proud when he heard that she liked the jam, Simone put quite the effort into doing so. "Yes! Its from the berries that are native to these parts, I made it myself. With that said, Simone had finished his breakfast. Stacking up the plates and moving them towards the sink area.

Moving back towards the table he smiled at Eva, "I see" He nodded looking towards Kamal, he figured it had been around that time span. "So how have things been? Up to anything new?" He attempted to start up some more small talk. He hasn't really been up to anything, just managing the shop.

“Wow, you made it?!” Eva was honestly floored. She glanced down at the homemade jam then back up at Simone with a shimmer of curiosity in her eyes, was there anything this guy wasn’t good at? He had a great smile, cared about the planet, rescued pokemon, and could cook?! There had to be a secret spouse somewhere locking this guy down.

The blonde shrugged her shoulders while nibbling on the rest of her toast, “Hmmm, what have I been up to since Slateport Beach . . .” she traded the toast for coffee and took another sip, “Let’s see, I went to my first Ranger gathering and met some coworkers – oh! Yea, duh. I officially joined the Rangers, I’m heading up their medical corps,” she laughed lightly, forgetting probably the most significant thing that had happened to her. She hadn’t officially joined the Rangers yet when Simone had first met her on the beach but it was in the works, “What about you?” she finished the last bite of toast, staked up her plates and walked them over to the sink where Simone stood, “have you always owned this flower shop?” she asked, realizing she didn’t really know that much about Simone, but was eager to get to know him.

Eva fired up the sink and started washing some of the dishes. It was only fair that if Simone cooked, she could help clean.

It was a pleasant surprise when Eva began to wash some of the dishes. Very considerate of her to do so, and he nodded to show his appreciation when she did so. Since she seemed to enjoy the jam so much, Simone felt it would be wrong of him not to offer some to her. He opened up his pantry which was stocked with a variety of cooking supplies. He reached for the jam which was stored on a slightly higher shelf. Grabbing the nicely wrapped can he handed it to the doctor. "I have plenty, so please feel free to take this when you leave." He smiled and remembered that the one he handed her was a special type of jam. A new one he had made recently "Oh right - that's a mixture of; blackberries, strawberries and some honey." He mentioned briefly flashing another smile. He gently shut the pantry door and looked back to Eva when she began to talk about what she had been up to recently.

Momentarily Simone froze when she mentioned the league and rangers. A small wave of fear could be seen in his blue eyes, but it quickly went away as he took a sigh to calm down his nerves. He never mentioned this to Eva when they first had met, but Simone spent at least ten years working for the league. What he saw scarred him, mentally and physically. No one would really imagine that Simone had PTSD, he never really told anyone that he was in the league after all. Also since Oldale was a small, peaceful and quiet town, there wasn't really anything that triggered Simone. "Oh.. I see.." Simone responded his tone slightly wavering. He had hoped that Eva wouldn't mention the league again, as Simone preferred not to talk about it.

While he did enjoy working for the league, it was hard for him to accept some of the stuff he saw. Simone fought in the wars, and many of his comrades had fallen from it. While he did not want to forget about them, sometimes that was easier. Upon seeing that Simone had been distressed, Peony slowly approached him. Releasing a aroma that would help reduce any anxiety or nerves.

He cleared his throat, replying to Eva's question. I've been running the shop for about two years now. Not that long" Simone said with a chuckle, intentionally not mentioning what he did before. "So how was the trip here? hope there wasn't any trouble along the ways. " He asked slightly more cheerful.

Eva was still elbow deep in some dishes when Simone offered the nicely wrapped jar of jam. Her lips pulled into a bright smile, “That sounds amazing! Thank you so much,” she moved some dishes to a drying rack and motioned for Simone to set it on the table, “Don’t let me forget it when I leave!” she tasked Simone, moving her attention back to the dishes in her hands. She was almost done, there really weren’t that many.

Focused on her task, Eva didn’t really notice Simone’s change in demeanor until all the response she got to her, what she thought was, exciting news was a wavering ’Oh… I see…’ It wasn’t the response from a normally cheerful Simone she expected. Then again, she really didn’t know him that well. She cast a quick glance in his direction while she moved the last of the dishes to dry.

Was it something she said? It was quite abnormal for Eva to be at a loss of words but the silence that had momentarily settled made her feel uneasy. The last thing she wanted to do was upset Simone. The calm aroma from Peony settled her new nerves as she stepped away from the sink to dry her hands. Simone was quick to change the subject, and Eva happily left it behind, “It was great! No trouble at all. A very beautiful trip too,” Eva moved back towards the blue flowers on the table, leaning in to give them a gentle sniff, “Where do you get all these flowers? Do you have a garden?”

Simone nudged Peony along assuring that he was okay. He glanced back at Eva and gave her a playful wink, "Will do, miss." He wasn't angry at the doctor why would he? Practically no one outside the family knew that he enlisted in the war anyway. It couldn't be helped that Eva unintentionally began a small trigger. "Thank you for doing the dishes for me!" He brightened as she placed the last of the dishes onto the rack.

Simone was quick to become cheerful and sunny again, seeing as how Eva left behind the topic rather quickly. "Great to hear" was his response to her traveling to Oldale. The trip really was a nice one as individuals had to traverse the country side which was bountiful with nature and wild pokemon. "Oh yes, people here maintain a community garden. These flowers are from there." The community garden was well maintained by Oldale's population, a lot of the folks here had a love for nature. "I do have my own garden, but it's not as big as the community one. " Simone chuckled and beckoned Eva with his hand if she wanted to see the garden he was all for it. Though it was nothing impressive compared to the one out in the square "Located back of the shop if you want to see it."

Eva couldn’t shake the feeling. It was a reaction she wasn’t expecting but as quickly as it came, it disappeared. And Simone was back to his normally cheerful self. But there was something. A little mystery in his past maybe he would someday share with her.

“Oh yes, the community garden! I think I remember seeing it on my way into town,” Eva loved the outdoors and relishing in the beauty of nature. She was hoping they would take a trip to it while she was here. If Simone didn’t want to join her, she’d take a walk through after the visit by herself with Kamal. She turned back towards Simone as he beckoned her to follow him, “Oh, yes please!” she beamed, curious as to what other beautiful things Simone had hidden around this shop of his, “I’d love to see the community garden too . . . if you fancy a little walk after this?” she asked while following him back to the smaller garden behind his shop.

He led Eva out towards the back of the shop, as they walked through the shop it became less of a shop and more home like. Simone had scattered some home essential items here and there around the shop. It looked a little disorganized but he had a good memory typically remembering where he had left stuff. "Excuse the mess, I haven't been cleaning very diligently. Simone lived on the second story of the store. There wasn't really much up there other then a room and more storage space. The two of them approached the backroom, which was used as a makeshift storage for everything the shop would need and also stored some garden essentials. Walking forward he opened the door for the doctor and stepped out after her.

"It's not much, the community garden is a lot more grand. " Simone commented, using a squirtle pail to give some sprouts a quick watering. The garden was on the smaller scale, the only kinds of plants that could be found were ones that were able to withstand the chilling temperatures. "Many of my plants stay in that green house over there. When spring comes it'll be a hassle to replant them, but it's what needs to be done. " Simone added with a bright smile, his hand pointing at the greenhouse that was a few feet from the both of them. He didn't know if the doctor wanted to visit the greenhouse or just view the community garden.
"I also would love to go on a walk! I can show you some places most tourists don't know much about." He enlightened her with the mention of exploration, even though Oldale really didn't have much to offer other than a old forest. He blinked, realizing he never knew where Eva had lived.

Eva followed Simone closely, weaving her way towards the back, “Don’t be silly, it’s not that messy,” she commented, thinking of her own apartment . . . She wasn’t the most organized person when it came to her personal life. The medical pack was meticulously organized and well stocked but her apartment was a hot mess. Eva smiled as the stepped outside, “It’s quite lovely. Must be nice have a garden in your backyard!” not to mention the community garden too. Oldale sounded like a great place to live with all the nature and wildlife around, but Eva was meant to live close to the larger pokemon centers should the need for her expertise arise.

“I’d love to lend a helping hand, if I can, when the time comes,” she didn’t know much about gardening so it seemed the perfect opportunity to learn. As a “lifelong learner” she was always wanting to explore different talents, “Oh! I’m always down for an adventure!” she beamed with excitement, spinning around to make her way back through the house towards the front of the shop.

She hadn’t realized she hadn’t talked much about herself when he asked the question, “Oh! Yes, I’m from Kanto. Just outside Pallet Town actually. I moved here not that long ago . . . right before I met you,” she looked back at him fondly with a light smile, “Do you mind if Kamal stays here? I fear it will be too much walking for him,” she placed a hand on the Roserade’s white-flowered head as they reached the front. She waited to follow Simone wherever he was going to lead her.

Simone was quite the neat freak, he liked things to be tidy just never found the time to finish up house duties. He hoped one day when he had the the time to spare that he would completely revamp the shop. Making it a lot more organized and give it a completely different look. In a way Eva was right, tending to his own garden was something Simone enjoyed and appreciated. It was also one way to keep himself from feeling lonely. "Thanks" He appreciated her kind words, his head tilted when she mentioned that she could potentially help him out. "Well I'm used to doing it by myself.. but It would be nice to have your company" A chuckle arose from his throat. He hoped that the doctors expectations weren't to high when he had mentioned adventure, "Well it's not much of an adventure, really just going to walk around the nearby woods." He didn't want her to feel disappointed if it didn't meet her expectations.

"Of course he can." He replied to her question, showing no hesitation on letting him rest up here. He waited for Eva to help the roserade before leading her towards the dense woods nearby. Normally people who didn't grow up in Oldale could get lost very easily, but Simone had lived here ever since he was a child - he knew the woods very well. The woods didn't really have anything out of ordinary, common pokemon were spotted scurrying about. "Kanto?" Simone questioned knowing well that the region was in bad conditions. He wondered how Eva had been effected by Team Rocket, based off her sunny personality one would assume that nothing was wrong, but an individual can easily hide how they really felt. "I was raised here in Oldale. Though I do know the rest of Hoenn well enough. " He added glancing behind to see if Eva was managing to keep up okay.

The two of them approached a clearing with in the woods, a small creak with a stone path just ahead. The stones were slippery but Simone was able to cross them rather easily. "Please be careful! " He warned, while the creek wasn't dangerous he was worried that she'd fall and injure herself. "There's something really amazing just up ahead.." He said with a soft smile, offering a hand to the doctor to help get across.

Eva laughed, stealing a glance back at him, “Anything new is an adventure, Simone,” she explained, hoping he understood the meaning. Eva called a lot of things adventures. If she hadn’t tried it yet, it was an adventure. It kept things exciting and fresh. Perhaps she used it too much, but that was just the outlook she liked to have on life.

The doctor smiled as the sun hit her face when they stepped outside. She loved Simone’s flower shop, filled with wonderful smells and surrounded by interesting plants, but nothing beat being outside. She followed Simone towards the woods, enthusiastically examining her new surroundings and the common wild pokemon that scurried about. Occasionally, she would find herself wandering off for a closer look at something but would quickly skip back to Simone’s side after only a moment.

Simone’s reaction to her homeland was a typical response. The Rocket take over and the brutal war there was known across all regions, “Yes . . . Kanto,” she repeated, there was a softness to her voice, a longing for a home she’d never know again. Things would never be the same there, and that was a thought that greatly saddened her. You could see it in her eyes, sometimes she didn’t do a good job hiding it. There was certainly an element to her constantly cheerful and enthusiastic nature that hid the dark things she had seen as a pokemon veterinarian on the frontline of that war.

Eva followed Simone, across the creek, skipping from stone to stone just behind him. She didn’t need the help across but was thrilled to take his hand. She placed her hand gently in his and let him help her finishing clearing the creek. Eva beamed at the thought of something amazing. No matter what it was, she knew it would be grand because she was seeing it with him.
