Angelo doesn’t manage to do an Over The Gyarados. He doesn’t even clear the second wave, screwing up the winning streak after only one success.[break][break]

It happens when Nereid sails over the peak of the wave, flying free from the water as the rushing force of her momentum leads her into flips – Angelo crouching to hold her back as his world spins – that it appears.[break][break]

A Goldeen launches itself out of the crystal blue just as he’s muscles begin to tense; himself and the Mantine beneath his feet preparing to launch him into the air for the finale somersault. He almost performs one, what with the fish pokemon colliding into his chest with a flailing wiggle, man and aquatic pokemon alike stunned from the mid-air collision that they all falter. Instinctively, he grips onto the closest thing – the Goldeen – as the force knocks him off Nereid’s back and sends him falling off the top of the wave. Heart jolting, yelling: “fuck!”[break][break]

Curse word cut off by the sound of splashing water, ocean consuming him into its warm, salty embrace.

Chloe wasn’t brave enough to face off with that sort of wave, at the last second she backed off. Surprised to see that Angelo had been brave enough to attempt and surf on it. The ranger watched stunned as Angelo and Nereid managed to pull off some neat looking flips, in her eyes it all looked like things were going smoothly, Chloe cheered for him - the little tricks he did were very impressive to an amateur. She hadn’t been expecting something so dramatic to happen in a short span of time. The collision looked bad, it was hard to imagine what it felt like.

Jett quickly swam towards where Angelo had fallen, she saw that he was still clutching onto the goldeen, unsure if he was hurt or not. “Are you okay?” It would be great if he came out of the ordeal unharmed..

Swallowed up by the tide, Angelo feels his body become uselessly swept up in the drag of the crashing wave; containing his breath in his lungs as he cracks open his eyes, peering up towards the surface as his spinning slows.[break][break]

Sunlight glitters, reflecting on the edge that separates ocean and sky, puncturing through the deep with warm sunbeams. A great expanse looming overhead beyond the barrier, a blurry infinity of blues and golds, calling for him to reach out. To break through. [break][break]

He almost forgets to swim. [break][break]

Thankfully, a jab to the arm snaps Angelo out of his captivation, the Goldeen in his grip prodding at his skin until the Alto Marian remembers how to kick his legs. He breaks through the surface some moments later, taking a greedy gulp of air and his chest racing from the adrenaline – barely under the surface for a few seconds. [break][break]

Nereid swims over with Chloe and her own Mantine, his pokemon nudging her head against him in concern. Angelo lets go of the Goldeen to tread water when she does, although he notes it lingers close to him. “Yeah... Yeah, ‘m fine.” He responds, voice breathy from the rush of the fall and the pull of the tide, hauling himself up onto Nereid’s back to sit for a moment. It looked like the ocean had calmed for a moment, waves turning gentle as they bob aimlessly. [break][break]

“Damn… Was so close to getting it. How did you do?” He pauses, looking over at Chloe with a slow blink, as if contemplating something before pushing his hair out of his face. His palm stills on the top of his head, gaze drifting skyward. “Kinda want to try again.”

"For sure" A determined look glinted in brown eyes, she was enjoying surfing with Angelo. Thanks to him she learnt some new tips and tricks, ones that she probably wouldn't have figured out on her own. Chloe was glad that he was understanding as well, she had a silly fear that he may have ridiculed her for not trying.

"Right behind you!" She gave Jett a pat to follow after Angelo as they raced towards the wave. Steadily climbing Chloe grinned as she felt the wind rushing on her skin, along with water that splashed onto her face and hair. Eventually Jett swam higher and it gave Chloe an exhilarating sensation.

"that was great, think it was the best wave for me today. she placed her hand against her chest to try and slow down her rapid heartbeat. there was a small frown as she spoke, but that was the last one for me, I better get going now." It was a little disappointing as she had wanted to surf a little longer, but alas she had to return back to her ranger duties.Chloe smiled once more, "It was fun surfing with you angelo, hope to do it with you again - I'll be seeing you around!" Waving him a goodbye she directed Jett back towards the shore.

along the way, Jett collided with a random pokemon but it was a strange collision.. Chloe looked to see what they had bumped into once again, and she was surprised to see a Jellicent - peering up at the two with a teary look. "I'm so sorry! gosh Jett please watch out more.." she gave the mantine a gentle scolding, returning her attention back towards the jellicent. Who accepted the apology rather quickly and now instead eagerly looked at Chloe, pleading her to capture him. "If your so sure you wanna come along.. I can't pass up on that." She reached for a vacant pokeball, tossed it at the pokemon. As it clicked she placed it inside her pocket, resuming going back to the shore.

A chuckle escapes him in response to Chloe’s honesty, shrugging his shoulders in her direction as if to say it was no big deal that she had passed on that particular wave. Angelo didn’t regret tackling it though, even if he had ended up tossed around under the waves and aquired scratches on his arms from a Goldeen’s frantic pecks. “Guess we’ll both just have to get it next time,” he tosses her a smile at the same time as he tosses a pokeball, catching the little fish who had thrown herself into his arms.

Waiting for Chloe to finish catching a Golduck, he busies himself with watching the choppy surface of the waves, laying forward over Nereid’s back in a moment of respite where he could reach the top of her head to give her pets. “Not that one. Too small,” he hums to himself as he watches the swells of the ocean, scanning over them for one that is neither too chaotic or anticlimactic for their next attempt. Mostly for Chloe’s benefit – Angelo wasn’t opposed to tackling any that came his way.

Upon the rangers return, Angelo pushes himself off his stomach with a pat to Nereid, signalling it was time to go again. “And perfect timing, there’s a great wave on the way that's got your name on it. Let’s go!” He grins and with a gesture to the brunette, they take off towards the surf one more time, filled with determination.

Angelo doesn't manage to pull off an Over the Gyarados…
