Finally, a mission suitable of her talents. She had been watching the cave for days. She knew the crew’s schedule better than her own morning routine. They were predictable, like all official League business was. Lex liked predictability, it made it that much easier to meticulously plan her work. As the sun set behind burning hues of orange and red, the scientists, their assistants, the day-shift security officers would exit the cave to be replaced by the night-shift security force. The excavated meteorite fragments would be left in the cave for now, locked away within a small safe with an electronic lock. There was a key card to access the lock held by the head scientist, a lonely, middle-aged man that was frustratingly overworked, evident by the dark circles beneath his eyes. But he loved his job and lived for the discovery. And he wasn’t shy talking about it either, he found it all fascinating. And a redheaded stranger at a bar that listened to his ramblings brought comfort. Lex was good at listening, taught her that. It wasn’t hard for her Rotom to copy the keycard and transfer the magnetic code to a card of her own. And if that should fail, Rotom would just have to hack it.

Aubie had dropped Lex off on a nearby outcropping of rock just as the sun had started to set. The Braviary remained high in the sky, his KEEN EYES always watching her closely. She waited there, lying patiently as the shadows crept across the rock formations until the area was consumed in darkness and the lights that lined the outside of the cave and its interior flickered on.

As predictable as ever, the scientists marched out of the entrance of the cave, followed by their assistant and the guards. Walking opposite them towards the cave, the nightshift security was arriving. It wouldn’t be long now until it was only Lex and the nightshift occupying the rural route. A sly smirk spread across her red lips. She was ready.

notes: Mulling Over Meteorites Mission

Setting: Meteor Falls, early evening, just outside the cave where the meteorites in question are kept. Her Thief Outfit + black hood.

Lex is here to steal shit. Open to Rocket or League involvement. Let’s have fun ^_^

Eclis peered upwards at the slowly forming night sky, disinterest clear upon his countenance as he watched a redhaired woman fly in nearby with her Braviary. Wherever he had been sent, whatever it was he was to do, it was of little concern. He was an escort, a simple grunt, what did his involvement beyond battling Pokemon make any difference? It was something to do. That's what he kept himself convinced of, at least. Criminal was criminal, after all, and even he wasn't above the law.

This fact was only amplified by who he was accompanying on this mission. He could only bare to look at her for so long before dark thoughts set in. He would certainly challenge her to a battle given the chance, and that wouldn't do. He had to keep his attention elsewhere for the time being, and so he would keep himself several meters behind , his Murkrow watching out for him from above. Great thing about flying types; their wit. Easy enough to train them to act as an alarm should a situation turn sour.

"Ho, hum." He snickered at how dull this was. Stealing meteorite fragments? Small time. Not even worth investing in to be honest, but hey, what did he know? Wasn't like he was someone important outside of this or anything, right? Wrong. This was no way to utilize someone with the financial knowhow of any member of the Rainer family, but, he would hold his tongue on the matter. Looking back down, he'd seemingly release Sabaku from her pokeball.

"Awfully dull time isn't it, girl?" The white-haired man straightened his suit, clasping at the inside of his white jacket and tugging it downward, "Alright, Zoraku, enough of that." The Sableye before him dissolved into a fine mist, the true form of his partner Zoroark slowly taking shape from it. The fox snickered before looking about itself curiously.

"We have something to retrieve. You have better things to be concerned with," the trainer pointed into the Zoroark's nose, forcing his fingertip into its tip ever so slightly, "No funny business."

The Pokemon looked up at its master timidly before something moving further behind him caught its eye. A Diglett dug its way from behind a pair of bushes, continuing on its path after taking but a moment to register the two forms nearby. Zoraku would then transform itself again, taking on the appearance of the small mole.

"Smart," Eclis chirped, "Now get in there."

Doing as it was told, Zoraku would head within the cave in an eerily natural manner, seeming to simply be a wild Diglett heading to where it had decided to make its home for the evening. Theatrics had always been the Zoroark's strong suit, something its trainer appreciated. Made it incredibly easy to lull people into a false sense of security.

Eclis counted out the seconds in his head as they passed, and after a half-minute with no sign from the 'Diglett', he made his way within as well. Maybe if he was lucky this would go off without a hitch and he could simply return home for the evening...

She didn’t know how many times she’d have to frustratingly repeat herself to Rocket: she worked alone. And still, they sent a man in white to accompany her on a stealth mission. She may as well just throw all her plans out the window and waltz in there like it was her fucking apartment at this rate. @eclis would find a pair of piercing amber eyes glaring at him every so often from beneath the hood that shadowed the thief’s face. She had no intention of getting caught, and no intention of letting the league learn her identity. She already had enough people after her. This guy though, didn’t seem to care a bit, “A white jacket? Really?” a single eyebrow raised in judgement.

If he followed her plan it would go off without a hitch and they would both be handsomely rewarded for their efforts. If he failed to comply, they would have to improvise.

Lex leapt from the outcropping of rock, landing with only a soft brush against the rocky terrain. Her steps were quick and light, only whispers against the ground as she advanced towards the cave’s mouth, “Wait,” she whispered, holding up a hand to prevent him from immediately entering the lit cave. As her watch struck the top of the hour, the light of the cave flickered before fizzling away. It wasn’t uncommon for rural projects to experience technical difficulty with their generators. The security lights would be the only thing illuminating the cavern sparingly, giving them plenty of shadows to sneak through. Her Gengar, Smoke, made sure the generators gave out and the perfect moment.

She’d seen it during her stake out. She knew they would send one guard out to fix the problem. She estimated 10 minutes after that until the other two got suspicious. With one guard careful incapacitated, it would leave only two to deal with. Lex liked those odds better.

The beam of a distant flashlight could be seem coming down the cave’s corridor accompanied by the shuffle of annoyed feet. Would Eclipse’s pokemon take out the guard quietly? Or would Lex’s Gengar have to step in?

notes: Lex has a meticulously curated plan. @eclis can either follow it or choose not to. Each path will have its own consequences. Choose your adventure Lex-style xD

"Hm?" He stopped as he was told, if only in preparation to make a remark of his own, before noticing the light from the flashlights within. He froze before turning and giving a grin to his Murkrow high above them. Eclis waved it down, the small black bird coming and landing upon his shoulder. He crouched low and to the side of the entrance, "Let's show them the meaning of Torment."

The Dark type's eyes glowed an eerie red before it flew inside. Shouting could be heard from within, and, as Eclis took a peek, he was met with the two League employees waving their arms above their heads in a panic as Muraku chased them out violently. They had little time to even take notice of the intruders as they ran past. He smirked, standing tall and patting at his lower jacket before continuing inside.

"Let's just get this over with. Zoraku should be nearing the expedition site by now." Eclis raised his hand in front of his chest as he walked, popping the knuckle of his index finger with his thumb out of habit. He guessed that wouldn't be the last speedbump on their path, but he could think of something when the time came. Even if it was as simple as making himself a distraction so that the girl could go on ahead.

"Eclis Rainer, by the by. I don't think we've ever been properly introduced, miss." Even when directing speech at her he still refused his gaze, "Not that we've ever had much reason to be. I normally handle finances, but sometimes these things are necessary."

Lex crouched down beside the cave’s mouth as the shuffle of feet grew closer and closer. The glowing red eyes of a Gengar appeared in her shadow. The dark figure remained phased between planes behind her simply watching and waiting for his next order. Lex’s amber eyes watched the Murkrow follow the trainer’s order, rushing into the cave to flush out the guards. There was no manner of stealth about it. It was all screaming and dramatic and it made Lex’s blood boil. If the other guard didn’t know there was an issue, he definitely knew now.

Men were always so . . . dramatic. They seemed to have a flair for presentation and a severe lack of discipline when it came to patience. She had yet to meet one she would consider bringing in as a partner. Well, except for Killian, he was perfect. But he also didn’t get in her way. The thief bit her tongue beneath clenched teeth. There was no need to criticize the white-haired stranger. After all, the result was the same: they could enter (somewhat) undetected.

But Lex never left anything to chance. It was the reason she had never been caught. As she followed @eclis into the cave she turned to her Gengar, giving him the signal to incapacitate the two that had come running out of the cave. Smoke grinned in delight, sinking into the rocky terrain to chase after the guards.

Was he really trying to make small talk? Eclis could see her brows furrow in annoyance as she cast a sideways glance at him, “Lex,” she simply replied, a small growl hidden in the word. She expected him to not use it in the presence of the League guards, “Finances?” she echoed, with a hint of curiosity. That explained a lot now. This wasn’t his wheelhouse which infuriated her more. Why the hell would they send a pencil pusher?

Regardless, it was too late. They were in it.

As the two progressed deeper into the cave, the sound of frantic footsteps echoed against the walls. It was the third guard who had heard the screaming coming to investigate. He had already released his two pokemon, Manectric and Fennekin, who ran by his side.

“Well fuck,” she growled, clenching her fists and freezing in place. And like a shadow, she disappeared, silently slipping into the shadows leaving Eclis by himself in the tunnel.

Meanwhile outside, Smoke had caught up with the two guards. The terrified duo watched a large, menacing Gengar rise from the earth in their path. A mysterious translucent wave of energy emitted from between his palms. A powerfully suggestive energy that engulfed the fragile humans, sitting on them heavily like a weight. It was hard for them to fight the will to sleep (HYPNOSIS). Slowly, their lids fell, along with their limp bodies to the ground. Smoke’s long tongue washed over his lips hungrily. Placing a palm on each guard’s head he drew from their nightmares, ravenously consuming their dreams and distorting their memories (DREAM EATER).

notes: I’m so sorry Lex is so terrible Dx She gets grumpy on the job. She’s nice outside of missions I promise lol

The third guard is on to them and is ready to battle whatever he finds! His pokemon: Manectric and Fennekin. Lex disappears into the shadows, 'ditching' Eclis... sorry lol

"Hmph. A jumpy one, aren't you, Lex?" Eclis cackled, retrieving a Pokeball from his belt and tossing it forward, "Good thing they sent me then, HUH?!" Sabaku mimicked its master's laughter as it appeared in a flash of white light, baring its claws at either side of it menacingly. A small Diglett could be seen traveling from behind the guard, making an annoyed expression. As it approached the scene, it seemed to explode into a cloud of smoke, Zoraku leaping to its trainer's side defensively.

"Stand down, small fry... Lest you incur my wrath." The white-haired man continued to howl in laughter, placing a hand over his patched eye as his Pokemon charged into the fray, the purple goblin going for the Fennekin while the fox attempted to subdue the Manectric. His eye widened, his verbal inflection becoming wilder and violent as he immersed himself into the battle. "USELESS CURRS."

Oddly enough, his Dark-type Pokemon seemed to take note of their master's arrogant jeering, translating it as commands. Sabaku would disappear in a blur, taking the brightly colored fox by surprise with a slap to the face (FAKE OUT), while Zoraku would lift a single claw, TAUNTing its opponent into making the first move.

Muraku let loose a cacophony of chirping laughter, watching in dark amusement as the Gengar placed the two humans in its little hex. The black bird circled the three of them, before its eyes lifted in sick pleasure and it perched atop a branch overhead. It would then begin picking at its wingfeathers with its beak, idle coos breaking the sound of the night's winds every so often.

The Murkrow was typically lazy without commands to follow through with, not bothering to return straight to its trainer despite being aware of the urgency. Not that it really cared, it wasn't much looking forward to strict directions and potentially having to work harder than it needed to. Instead it would just take note of Smoke's handiwork every so often before returning to its vain selfcare.

Smoke closed his eyes, shuddering at the rush of pure energy from the Dream Eater. His mouth watered, hungry for more but he knew how to control himself. He withdrew early, leaving the feeble humans with their sanity intact, just not the memories of what had transpired here tonight.

Duty called. Lex would need him eventually. The Gengar sank back into the earth, his haunting shadow racing across the terrain to reunite with his trainer.

Lex was careful, not jumpy. A difference she could explain to Elcis at a later time. In the moment, she was too focused on the task at hand to bother mustering a response to his comment. Lex moved as one with the shadows, blending in seamlessly to the uneven, rock terrain behind her. She watched with wide eyes as @eclis underwent his transformation into a merciless, violent battler. And in that moment, she was thankful, for this first time, for his presence on the mission. As someone who would rather use stealth than muscle, she was happy to have a suitable distraction to make her job easier.

Properly distracted in the heat of battle, the two pokemon and the guard were unaware of Lex’s presence as she silently slipped by. Confident there were no other guards deeper in the cave, she focused on speed, running at a full sprint towards the locked gate, behind which the mined fragments of meteorites were kept.

Get in, get out, don’t get caught.

Lex pulled the copied key card from her pocket, there was a 50/50 chance this was going to work. If the card didn’t, her Rotom could handle the lock it would just take longer than she would have liked and Eclis would have to keep the guard busy longer. With a small prayer to whatever deity was listening, she scanned the keycard against the locking mechanism.

Roll for fun (1-50 it fails, 51-100 it succeeds)
8CRxA4jT

The League guard grit his teeth, clenching frustrated fists as the man’s taunting, “I just gotta keep you busy long enough for back up to get here!” he sneered, his tone was hard to read. Was he bluffing?

The Fennekin was knocked aside with the Fake Out, but the fox was quick to recover. Its glare locked on the Sableye as it’s mouth opened and it let loose a stream of burning fire (FLAMETHROWER). The Manectric fell victim to the Taunt, growling furiously before lunging towards the Zororak. It’s mouth opened wide and electricity sparked from it teeth in an attempted THUNDER FANG.

notes: Lex sneaks past the battle to continue on to the fragments, assuming Eclis will keep them occupied as a distraction.

"FOOL! You couldn't keep us busy if you tried!" Eclis outstretched his arms before pulling them back in a manner more fitting a beast than man, his Zoroark mimicking this and unleashing a torrent of sinister energy before disappearing from sight, landing a deft strike upon the back of the Manectric and returning to its Pokeball in a flash of light (U-TURN), "Go! Crawaku!"

Without even needing to touch the balls on his belt, one of them responded to the man's cry, a large, red crustacean with mighty claws presenting itself upon the battlefield in front of Sabaku. Its claws held out before it defensively, it shielded the smaller Pokemon from the flames as it scurried into position to now accost the Manectric instead (SHADOW SNEAK).

"Tell me, what do you see as you stare into the abyss?" Eclis chuckled, "I can only see a future where Rocket prevails..."

On cue, Muraku returned as it had been abandoned by the Gengar which had previously accompanied it. Landing on its trainer's shoulder, it cooed and pruned its feathers until it was returned to its Pokeball with a grin from its trainer, "We can handle as many of you as need be. Remember that, worm."

Lex held her breath as she slid the magnetic strip through the access point. The breath fell I a heavy sigh as the red light flashed to green, accompanied by the soft chime of the accept card, “Thank fuck that worked,” she grumbled to herself as she pushed the gate open. It wasn’t that she had any doubt in her Rotom’s ability there were just so many variables in technology now-a-days that made it difficult to plan for. The easy way was always the preferred way for the thief.

Sliding the empty backpack off her back, she started working on loading it up with the fragments of meteorites that were scattered throughout the area. She took a few of each, really as much as she could fit into the backpack. They were heavier and a bit larger than she expected. Rocket didn’t request all of them. Just enough sample for the scientists to do whatever it was that needed to be done with them.

The backpack was heavy, much heavier than she hoped. Aubie was gonna be pissed when he had to fly them out of here. Maybe she’d pawn some of them off on @eclis to take with him. Splitting it up wouldn’t be a terrible idea.

The battle was raging on, the fierce cacophony of the attacks echoed down the corridor. Lex was able to sneak back up behind the battle. It seemed Eclis had done quite well keeping the man distracted. Regardless if back up was coming or not, Lex’s speed in collecting the samples would get them out of there before anyone else showed up.

Now . . . about this guard.

The ominous presence of the Gengar was a familiar one to Lex. His shadow raced across the cavern floor, up the wall and around the main battle. His ruby eyes peered out towards the redhead who motioned vaguely to the human. His turn again.

Smoke materialized behind the guard, emitting the same powerful, suggestive energy (HYPNOSIS) he had done dozens of times before. The trainer wavered unsteadily, touching his head lightly in confusion.

“Time to wrap this up,” she spoke, stepping back into view from the shadows with a large, heavy back pack strapped to her back.

notes: Lex successfully made it through the lock and steals as many meteorite shards as she can. Feel free to RP Eclis and his pokemon wrapping up the battle in whatever way you see fit for you character.

Eclis froze, taking notice of 's return with little time to act. As the Gengar worked its magic on the guard, the white-haired trainer darted across the battlefield, leaping over Crawaku as it burrowed underground, grabbing Sabaku and tumbling into a roll, "Get down! Now!" He knew what the water-type was planning to do. He had commanded it. This was on him.

As he acted as shelter for the Sableye, an energy construct in the shape of a massive claw exploded from the ground and swallowed up both the Manectric and Fennekin. Crawdaunt's GUILLOTINE was a morbid sight to behold, tearing through its foes and leaving them a bloody mess before it. The crustacean howled in its victory, its armored hide made redder with the rain of blood now splattered upon it.

Eclis looked up cautiously, surveying the damage, "Crawaku, return!"

The Crawdaunt's eyes flashed momentarily in disobedience before it crossed its claws and submitted, a bright red beam from its Pokeball pulling it back within. Its trainer heaved a sigh of relief and got back to his feet, patting himself off. A cold chill ran up his spine. He needed to work with that Pokemon more; teach it how to conduct itself in combat in a way that didn't put its comrades in danger. A shake of the head and he turned from what senseless wreckage remained of where the fight had taken place.

"Then it's done? Good. We can be on our way," he gritted his teeth, finally passing a glance at the girl. His eyes were still wild, as they had been in the heat of battle. A vicious red, fragments of the dark place he dwelled when commanding his Pokemon; the sick stare of a dog begging to be put down, though his words were calm and sincere, "It would be best if you mention the specifics of this to no one."

Smoke pressed his HYPNOSIS onto the guard with a relentless force. Slowly he fell to his knees, the man fought hard, but ultimate did succumb to the pokemon’s will. He fell onto his side with a thunk just as @eclis’s pokemon took care of the others. Smoke leapt onto him like a hungry lion, devouring his dreams with the same ravenous enthusiasm as earlier.

Lex watched in horror as the Crawdaunt sliced through the Fennekin and Manectic in one bloody sweep. Scarlet droplets of blood spattered across the cavern, including a few all the way to Lex, dotting her ebon outfit, “Disgusting,” she growled from behind her mask as she stalked forward with the heavy back pack.

“Yes, I have what we came for,” she clarified, her eyes turning towards the direction from which they came. Best to get out as quickly as possible incase he wasn’t bluffing about back up. She started to walk but his last words gave her pause. Her amber eyes slowly turned towards him, a brow peaked in interest. Did Lex stumble upon a secret? She grinned beneath her mask, Lex knew someone who loved secrets. Though his voice was calm, the words seemed like a warning. Accompanied by the hysteria in his eyes, Lex made an assumption, “Is that a threat?” she questioned, her own eyes narrowed, unabashedly locking with his mad gaze. There was an iciness to her glare, a challenge that would equally meet his if this was indeed a threat.

As spoke in turn, the young man seemed to fold inward upon himself. His eyes watered as he choked back laughter, hands grasping at his dapper attire as if he were attempting to hold back convulsions. Images of the past played across Eclis' mind, reminders of his most seeded failures. He finally managed a seething hiss of air as he returned, "I am a threat."

A chuckle, "You can look at me however it is you please," immediately he snapped his posture back into that of the ever-respectful businessman. The reflection, the Jekyll of his Hyde, continued, "It will never matter in the end. Best be on our way, hm?" As he stepped forward, shuffling past the woman at a haggard pace, he paused. The smell of blood was sticking to the cave walls now, he tried to anchor himself to that. Something familiar...

"Do you know what it's like to be so close to something," he shivered, closing his eyes as he attempted to elaborate, "yet the best you can afford is to have it dangled in your face?" He would then turn to her, the Pokeball he had returned the deadly crustacean to held atop his grasp like a glass of fine wine, "How I have chosen to train alongside my Pokemon is my own business, Lex. So if you wish to take that as a threat, a plea for help, potential admittance of sociopathy; it's all trivial."

The white-haired trainer slid his free hand through his hair, pulling it from his face neatly, "It's all words with no value, madam. And I keep my eyes on value." He would then tip his head toward the exit, placing his hands back within his pockets, "On our way then?"

This guy was batshit crazy, rash and unpredictable. Lex didn’t like unpredictable. It didn’t scare her, but it certainly made her feel uneasy. Regardless, her glare didn’t waiver through his hiss. Those four little words were a clear threat. She didn’t understand the dual personalities, if she did maybe she wouldn’t be as rash in her judgment. A Rocket should know better than anyone to hold their tongue against their fellow team members. Lex had come to learn she didn’t like to be threatened so she’d squash that bug before it even saw daylight.

A gloved finger raised to point at him, “Tread carefully, @eclis. And pull yourself together before you go threatening the wrong Rocket,” It wasn’t a secret Lex was one of the softer pawns in Rocket’s chess game. That didn’t mean she couldn’t take out a king, she just preferred not to.

“Words with no value?” she laughed as she walked towards the cavern’s entrance, “There’s no such thing,” words were very powerful. Each chosen syllable could be analyzed and broken down to tell the story of what made someone tick. Tonight, Lex had learned a lot about Eclis.

A sharp whistle from the thief’s lips brought the Braviary down from the night sky. She tossed the heavy bag for the pokemon to grab with his talons while she perched herself on the harness wrapped around the raptor’s core, “’Till next time, Eclis,” she said plainly before the Braviary rose from the ground with a few powerful beats of his wings. Like shadows they slipped back into the night sky to deliver the fragments to the Rocket.

"As above, so below." Eclis watched as flew off into the night, wrists still at a slump, gloved hands shoved into the pockets of his dress pants as he leaned against the cavern's entrance, "Heh. Here's to 'next time's, I guess." Stepping out into the cool, night air, the banker hummed a soft tune to himself. There wasn't likely to be a next time, as quickly as pawns fell in this little game of cat and mouse between the League and Team Rocket. Not that it bothered the grunt.

Still, his mind raced with thoughts of what to do should he be ousted to the public for what he was. In his eyes, it was something inhuman. An unfeeling, corrosive side of him that was required to keep the Pokemon he had chosen to specialize in under his reins. Others saw it as his true self, he saw it as a means to an end. After all, he was right. The words he spoke held no value. It was action that brought about results, decisions such as the killing of people and Pokemon if necessary in order to reach his goals. That was just the way of the world.

The strong lead the weak, the weak bend the knee to the strong. That's just how things were. Always had been.
