he. wanted. to. steal. but instead he was stuck in yet another shitty uniform pretending to care about the fact that he was volunteering here at an aquarium. there were tons of rare pokemon in here and yet he couldn't get his hands on any of them. yet. today was just supposed to be a scouting mission to get information. of course slateport was practically run by rocket so he didn't really know why they couldn't just fucking take everything in here. but unfortunately some of the rarer specimens had been tucked away somewhere probably. that's where joycon came into play. that little porygon was worth it's weight in gold when it came to doing work lately. so while he sat in his spot greeting people and occasionally chatting with other volunteers his little porygon was off doing the real work.

Violet never truly understood the concept of volunteering, really. Then again, given how she lived, any kind of work she did was basically volunteering to begin with, mostly since she only did odd jobs when she did not find a good mark at all. But this was the other kind of volunteering, apparently, the one where one did things and then ended up with a measly compensation at best. Bummer.

But on the other hand, sitting here and greeting/helping people did mean that she, too, could make some scouting. Or rather, scout-flirting. She’d already given her number to one guy that looked both smitten with her, even in these atrocious work clothes, and looked like money. One wasn’t enough, though. For some bright-eyed lass looking for true love, maybe. But the art of fishing men was to cast a wide net. Anyone easily manipulated by her would also easily be snatched up by someone else. Best to keep looking.

There was no one around right then, though, so Vio sighed, briefly, before turning towards her co-worker. That girl seemed cute, but did not actively poise competition to her. At least it seemed that way, for now. They both seemed not too interested in the material at hand. That could mean some measure of bonding time, then. “You doing this kind of volunteer work a lot?”

chatting with his coworker was not what he had in mind. not when he had a million and one other things to worry about. though he wasn't really that worried about anything. he refused to worry if he was being honest. joycon could handle downloading the database and he could handle handing out some of these shitty flyers and making small talk. "i mean, lately it seems like all i've been doing is dressing up in shitty uniforms and being a bleeding friggin heart about charity." he wanted to have a bunch of cash but rocket kept giving him these jobs that had absolutely no real payout. he faked a smile and handed out a pamphlet about the children's room or some bullshit area like that. "have a nice time...-" and once he was sure they were gone. "...dumbasses."

Wow. Vio could be catty at times, sure. But she could never bring herself to be this blunt about things. It was honestly a tad bit interesting to see someone complain like this only a few feet away from supposedly paying customers. Certainly some skill to keep that under wrap while also being kind of…honest about matters. Which was just as well, really. Meant she had at least found someone here worth her time. Even if that probably annoyed the other.

Heck, probably because it might annoy them. A little mischievous grin flashed over her face. “Well, it certainly isn’t for everyone,” she replied, looking after the latest customers leaving. The dumbasses, as they had been called. An interesting choice of insult. To most people, any and all insults were interchangeable. Others tended to zero in on what they figured to be the most prominent character flaw. But dumbasses felt a bit out of place. Vio was going to investigate. “How come you are here, then? I mean, I just wanted to try this out. But if you have experience and hate it, why do it? Someone like you could certainly find better paying employment just about anywhere.” After all, they were cute. That was honestly all one needed in most cases.

this girl asked an awful lot of questions but he really didn't care. after all she wasn't the first person who wanted to get chatty with him. he could just be vague about his answers as he turned the ring over in his fingers that he'd taken from the ladies finger as he handed her one of the pamphlets. "does this look like a real diamond to you?" he would just say he found the ring on the ground if she tattled on him about stealing it. "i got asked to cover this shift so that someone could take care of some things. i'm too damn gracious for my own good really." he rolled his eyes. "last week i covered a shift at a casino even. did you know not all of them let you dress up in cute bunny suits? apparently that's in the movies." which fucking sucked.

Vio raised a brow when she saw the stolen ring. But she certainly was not going to tell on him or complain. It was ultimately upt to him what he did in that regard, after all. If they caught him stealing, then she could always feign ignorance. Only it would not truly be feigning, for she had not exactly seen it happen to begin with.

“No, that’s fake,” she replied. To be fair, she did not actually know. But it seemed like it was fake. And she did quite like to present herself as smarter than she actually was, so there was that. Not that she wanted to be mean to the guy, that was just something she did without even thinking. Kind of a subconscious thing, really. “And, hmm, I guess I can see that. Also, yeah, most casinos do not let you. Though I know a few places where the employees have to wear them,” she replied, winking at him. Those establishments were not exactly, well, casinos, but they were close enough for these purposes, really.
“Could be worse though. Imagine having to wear fish costumes in here. Those can never be cute, by definition!”

he sighed and pocketed the ring. of course it would be fake. it wouldn't have slipped off so easy if it wasn't. but it would at least be some cute costume jewelry later probably. or he could sell it to someone and fake it. "i have this friend, valerie, she does all this kind of weird stuff with gemstones so she'll probably know for sure." it wasn't that he didn't trust this stranger but, of course he didn't. he didn't really know anything about her. but that was fine. he didn't need to. "mermaids are cute though. you could dress up like a mermaid and definitely still be cute." guys went wild for that sort of thing didn't they? sailors or whatever loved mermaids for some reason. and those sailors were very, very, very, burly. "though i guess you wouldn't be able to move well like that. at least not on land. they've got those under water mermaid tails you can swim around in. that might be fun." maybe a day trip out to a place that had them or something.

A mermaid? She blinked. Her first thought was exactly in the direction he then commented on. They might be cute, but also very inconvenient. Like, they were good for those that could swim in aforementioned tails or such, but that meant one was confined to the waters. Other than that, you really could only wear them by making yourself a living statue, sitting on some artificial rock or something for a display. And then it was either taking off that tail or try to flop about.

“You would be cute indeed,” she noted, leaving it ambiguous if she conformed to their use of an impersonal ‘you’ or directly implied this person to begin with. “And I guess so. I went diving a lot last summer and it was a lot of fun. The kinds of things that happen when you are dating a seacaptain.” Vio chuckled, remembering the fun she’d had with Skyler. Then, she nodded. “But yes, probably best to ask an expert. I have a bit of an eye for these sorts of things, but only because I use fake ones for scams. Not because I have any education in the matter.”

before he could say much more about scams his phone beeped a little and suddenly a porygon appeared on his shoulder, tapping him gently to let him know that the download was done and that everything had been sent to his phone. god he loved this little living machine so fucking much. "well, i think i've done enough volunteer work for today. do you wanna go get a coffee and talk some more? i'll pay." it was rare that he ever offered to pay for anything but he felt like if he could dig his claws just a little bit more into her then maybe he could get some bonus points for recruiting someone into rocket. it would be fun. he grabbed his purse from behind the kiosk and stretched a little, letting joy-con get comfortable in his bag as the pokemon rested from all its hard work.

Wait. They could just stop doing this whenever? Violet had honestly not known this. Well, to be fair, all she had known about all this was that she had agreed that, today, she would volunteer here, along with a starting time. No one had truly given her a schedule. That kind of did seem like they could leave whenever, though she was not sure how that made sense? Well, unless their work here was completely superfluous. Well, more like extraneous. Nice to have, but not too important if it fell through.

That did kind of seem right. After all, these customers could probably run around like headless chicken with or without being greeted. Vio shrugged. If that was truly the case, then she might as well go out and have some fun with someone that seemed more interesting to be around than any two customers here.
Plus, he honestly had her at ‘free coffee’, anyway. “Certainly,” she agreed, before looking for a place to set down leftover pamphlets. Didn’t want to look too disingenuous, after all. “I honestly can’t wait to change out of this again. Guess meet after the changing rooms?”

he shook his head a bit whenever she mentioned the changing rooms. "nah, aquarium volunteers get free biscotti with any purchase. i'm keeping this shitty outfit on until i get a free cookie at least. you can change if you want though." plus if worst came to worse he might actually need this uniform again for other purposes. it was a good as an excuse as any to try and keep it for now. it would help if he wanted to sneak in or look inconspicuous. that was the real blessing of these ugly uniforms after all. in all honestly glitch didn't care about how long he was supposed to be here. he'd come and go as he pleased. "i'll meet you outside though, good luck!" and with that he headed out to wait for her. if all things went according to plan then maybe, just maybe, he could get more than one prize out of today.
