Fernando mumbles to himself as his MISTY TERRAIN coils around his wrist. The fog permeates his Comfey in a perfume of cotton candy, invasive, suffocating. But the Pokemon shows no protest as it inhales the dust in its own form of photosynthesis. In it, they blend in with the other pink marvels the Safari Zone has yet to reveal.

It logs the Pokemon perfectly. Truly a masterpiece fit to replace the Pokedex. But being a replacement is not good enough. Not for Fernando.

They must do more.

“Heatran.”

Fernando lobs his Pokeball out casually. In its place is a hunkering mass of metal and fire. Before he can direct the Pokemon with a particular attack, the Silph Scope goes off on its own accord.

“Heatran. Optimal choice, LAVA PLUME.”

The Pokemon obeys. A wash of magma flows from the Heatran’s jaws, spilling out in a swamp of molten rock and liquid. The way it encroaches on the Ponyta keeps it at bay and eats at it until it succumbs. It reels back until it passes out on the grass.

A Safari ball ends the battle with a resounding click of capture.

Another ding, another identification.

Fernando’s eyes narrow at the sight of his desired subject. These Pokemon are the apex of his research going forward. Anything to stop the meteor from annihilating them from existence. No matter the cost.

“Heatran. Optimal choice, EARTH POWER.”

The Silph Scope’s voice is a whip that corals the Pokemon into action. A stomp from its foot causes the earth to rupture underneath. It tears asunder, pillars lodging themselves upward in a spire of obelisks.

Without its hard shell, the Minior drops like a fly.

So does Fernando’s Safari ball.

His Heatran clambers beside him, shaking is head as its attention is rerouted to its trainer’s commands.

“Execute.”

Its steel maws part in a surge of LAVA PLUME. Heat and fire scorch the safari zone’s grass as it envelops the exposed meteorite. Its shell sizzles underneath the raw heat, revealing the pink mass of energy inside.

Fernando tosses a Safari Ball. Left exposed for too long and the Minior will expire.
