"No problem Stormy. It's also going to provide me a chance to work with this line up too." The Alolan man was still wearing his bodyguard outfit. His shift had just ended from working at the league headquarters when he received the lady's message, requesting his help. Thus, he had shown up ASAP to work on this new combination of hers.[break][break]

Behind the man, 4 pokemons were ready for this training: Groot the Trevenant, Picasso the Smeargle, Inferno the Heatran and Zero the Zeraora. The two mythical creatures were enjoying some fun times together while the other two were slowly approaching their trainer to stand beside him.[break][break]

"Can you tell me what's the theory you have worked behind that combo? I agree that Forest Wrath would be a good addition to your available repertoire, since you especially delve into fire-related actions. But what else do you have planned?"

Stormy glances past Balder's shoulder to the Heatran and Zeraora on standby. She takes note of the man's Smeargle as well, and the subtle difference between his and her own. Her own seemed to sport an uncharacteristic cowlick. [break][break]

Her lips twitch in a brief smile and she claps her hands together before waving his attention over to the target dummies she'd set up. One of them was scorched and blackened, still stuck with tar. It smelled downright awful, maybe even still smoking.[break][break]

"Well, as you can see, I've taught Smeargle how to utilize the move 'tar shot' with the move 'magma storm' -- or any fire-type move, really. When a target is slick with tar, it burns even hotter."[break][break]

She gestures to the Trevenant.[break][break]

"If the target isn't already a grass type, utilizing the move 'forest curse' will ensure that they will be. Grass types aren't a fan of fire, as I recall."[break][break]

She smirks, amused. Smeargle wields its paintbrush tail in anticipation, already takin the time to sketch the figure of the ghost-type tree. He seems thoroughly excited.

As Stormy explained the reasoning, Balder nodded. The theory was sound yeah. There was a single flaw however. "True, on paper this is indeed a dangerous build. But it's also relatively circumstantial. This can only be applied in 3 different settings: multi-pokemon battles, defeating an invader that has no way to recover itself, or waiting for the adversary to be on his last pokemon to start piling all these debuffs."[break][break]

The man signaled to his Trevenant to use the move on the target. As he saw that command happen, Picasso took out a sketch book from a nearby Bag and started using its tail to draw the Mannequin being affected by the move Forest Curse as the ghost type proceeded to use it. The target suddenly grew some leaves and had now a green hue to itself.[break][break]

"Succeeding in pulling that combo, however, would be extremely rewarding. The Grass-typing would nullify any natural resistance to fire-type moves while Tar Shot would make these moves even more effective. Plus, the advantage of Tar Shot can also be applied to a pokemon that's naturally weak to fire and make it even more devastating."[break][break]

Balder then turned his head halfway, half a smile on his face as he looked at the Elite Four. "Glad to see you've learned a lot ever since our first meeting in the fiery path. Not many people would've considered this combo."

"True, but I don't believe that that will ever be a problem. Smeargle is utility, a means to fill in a void if something were to happen. It's why I taught him special moves on the off-chance something happens to the Pokemon who can use them originally."[break][break]

A support Pokemon, essentially, capable of filling in the blanks where needed. [break][break]

"Exactly. It could be devastating - and I can use it defensively if need be too. I have a feeling this combination, or anything similar, could be used environmentally too and not just against Pokemon. You never know when you need to start a fire on purpose."[break][break]

Stormy's expression is severe as she sets her sights on the dummy now covered in creeping moss and leaves. The forest curse was already working. Smeargle's sketching is rapid and messy, full of errors and backstrokes as he attempts to capture every detail perfectly.[break][break]

"Good, now let's practice using tar shot first. Take your time, make sure you've got it right."[break][break]

The Smeargle flips through the pages of his sketch-pad, settling on the drawing of the tar-covered dummy. He seems to concentrate, glowing with some sort of unnatural energy. From his paw pads he spews out a mini geyser of tar. It sticks to the grassy surface of the dummy, stinky and sticky.[break][break]

"Not everyone is brave enough to try it."[break][break]

Smeargle follows up the tar shot with a weakened, much less extravagant show of fire. Magma pellets burst from the little painterly pup and swirl around the target. Just the heat of it is enough to set the dummy aflame long before the magma storm has any chance of hitting it. [break][break]

The time, the dummy burns even hotter until all that remains is a pile of ash and tar. It smokes relentlessly even without the fire.[break][break]

"Wow, I think we nailed it."

A support pokemon. That's indeed a good idea. But when the lady mentioned needing to start a fire on purpose, Balder looked away and scratched the back of his head. "Yeeeaaaah... Starting a fire on purpose. Definitely useful." Mauville forest fire anyone? The melting paper monsters? That kid that came out with fire at his ass called @andy .[break][break]

Then, Stormy proceeded to do the fire show, starting with the tar and then setting it on fire. Visually, it did seem extremely effective. But would it be effective on a live target? "Yep, sounds like a success. But now, we have to move on actual practice. INFERNO!"[break][break]

The Heatran walked towards the group, staring the small smeargle and huffing as a challenge. "Yo, be kind you grumpy old man." Balder proceeded to stand beside the Heatran and rubbed the creature's head gently. "Yeah, my Heatran could serve as target practice in this case, to see the effectiveness of your target."

She frowns at his discomfort. [break][break]

While she seems satisfied with her display of prowess, Balder steps back in with his Heatran. She blinks, surprised, before turning to face him and the legendary Pokemon. For a moment she seems confused, unsure what it is that he's getting at.[break][break]

"But.. he's a fire-type, Balder. That seems redundant."[break][break]

This combination wouldn't work against another fire-type Pokemon, right? Especially not one with the strength of a legendary deity.

"On the contrary, it actually opens a door to new possibilities." While the Heatran decided to lay on the ground as he felt he'd be waiting for a bit, Balder sighed and turned his attention to Stormy. "Obviously yes, at first sight it would seem like a useless trial to do, since fire types resist fire types."[break][break]

The Alolan proceeded to point the Trevenant and Stormy's Smeargle. "However, This tactic of yours actually allows you to turn that around. Provide them the grass typing, they lose their natural resistance against flames. Add a Tar Shot? They are now weak to flames. In Heatran's case, he has no resistance to flames, even though he is the Magma incarnation. So that combo actually makes it pretty weak to all of this."[break][break]

Balder proceeded to stretch and moved behind the Heatran. "So this tactic allows you to overpower a fire pokemon easily without having to resort to water moves or other typings that you don't often use. And against legendaries or threats to the region, it opens up an occasion to stop them faster. But to be certain, testing is the best option."

"Hmm.. Forest curse, right?"[break][break]

She's never considered it, given it's grass-typing. But the prospect of granting any Pokemon the grass typing, even temporarily so that she could overpower them easily.. was far too tempting a strategy. [break][break]

Stormy's gaze follows Balder behind his Heatran, and she squares her shoulders and beckons to Smeargle with a twitch of her fingers.[break][break]

"Alright, Smeargle, you heard the man. Try placing a forest curse on the Heatran, and follow through with the rest of our rotation."[break][break]

Slowly, so as to get it absolutely right, the painterly pup scrawls with his paintbrush tail what looked like a forest. It applies grass and greenery that rises from the ground slowly to encapsulate the deity, temporarily changing him from fire and steel to.. grass.[break][break]

And then he is coated in tar, and Smeargle finishes the combo with Heatran's signature magma storm. It burns hot, eating through the black, stinky sludge to the Pokemon beneath it.

The combo definitely did some damage to the Heatran and had him weakened. But... that also led to him being angry. He was now visibly annoyed for being used as a simple target, by a lowly sketch pokemon. The creature was now seeing red and he wanted vengeance. "Oh for fuck sake..."[break][break]

Balder proceeded to quickly remove his jacket and shirt as the Heatran began charging towards Stormy and her Smeargle. "INFERNO, ENOUGH!" The creature was charging an Iron Head as Balder proceeded to step between them, grabbing the legendary monster and stopping him in his charge. But the Heatran wasn't letting go.[break][break]

"I. Said. STOP!" Suddenly, Balder's fist began covered in flames as he slammed it into the creature's back to knock him down. The creature's legs gave out, making him and Balder collapse to the ground. "Why did you have to be so vengeful about it?! It's training so she can fight creatures as strong as you!" The bodyguard then looked behind him, towards Stormy and the Smeargle. "You guys alright?"

Stormy's go from glowing with pride and awe, to wide with shock and fear. She watched the Heatran take blow after blow and go from indifferent and bored to a blistering rage. She takes a small step back, but her exhibit of fear is what she feels launches the legendary Pokemon into violent action. He charges and Stormy's chest swells with fear and Moltres' influence. Flames ignite at her fingertips as she holds her hands out to stop him- but Balder is faster.[break][break]

She blinks in surprise as the man single-handedly stops the Heatran in its tracks. [break][break]

"Balder?"[break][break]

In a brief scuffle, the two lay in a heap atop one another, and she catches the dying flames from Balder's fist. Once more, she is stunned into silence as she pieces together what she's just seen. The flames from her own hands resolve, sinking back into her skin.[break][break]

"Y-yeah, yeah, we're alright. I didn't mean to-- your-- your hands were.."

As the flames subsided from the man's fist, he proceeded to get back up and clean the dirt off his pants. The lady still seemed traumatized from what had just happened. But her question about his fists being on fire... Reminded him that she wasn't aware of his powers being recovered and stronger.[Break][break]

I also hold a better control over the light, I can even cause pokemons with solar moves to skip their charging phases without having the presence of a sun." In short, that made him... "I'm a Legendary-less Avatar now I guess. Or I became the legend myself. Or a monster for some I guess."[break][break]

It's true that some would come to fear him or consider him a monster. Since all Avatars normally have a Legendary deity tagging along with them. He was now the abnormal one, holding all that power but not having a deity to keep him in check.
