This situation was far from ideal. Alison found herself lost and alone within Petalburg woods. Her confusion and frustration ended up leading her deeper into the woods, but not all was bad; she saw it as an opportunity to expand her team.

Her hands gripped tightly onto a vacant pokeball, she glimpsed around nervously cautious of any sudden movements. “Let’s just hope that there won’t be any bug types around.. Right?” She directed the question to her raichu, who didn’t give her trainer any reassurance.

the woman knelt on the dirt path's side, squinting down at a tiny bed of echinacea that she had discovered after offering her surroundings a cursory glance. it was a small collection and they appeared to be in a poor state, signs of trampling present. from her bag she retrieved a small plastic container, gingerly storing several of the crumpled flowers within.

while the effects were minimal to humans due to its overall lack of potency, she personally fancied adding the flowers to her garden for experimental purposes. wiping her lightly smeared hands on her denim jeans in the aftermath of collecting the sample, she'd shoulder her pack and take in her immediate surroundings with the sweep of her gaze. her two breloom stood within arm's reach as the woman did so, the pokemon visibly stiffening as their attention abruptly shifted.

cait followed their combined gazes, her brows arching at the unfamiliar face.

"hello," she called.

she sounded wary, but remained polite as she stood idly by and made her presence known.

It really didn’t help that the forest looked all the same to Alison. She couldn’t help but wonder if they were walking around in circles. Once again she pulled out the map, a finger tracing alongside the outlined route. “Maybe.. We just need to keep going straight?” She thought out loud to herself, slowly taking some steps forward.

She shifted the map, trying to make sense of it. In the end she only felt more confused as she didn’t see any of the landmarks the map had been talking about. “Oh whatever!” Alison yelled out of frustration, crumbling the map into a ball and stuffing it into her pockets. She hastily marched forward to keep up with her raichu, who seemed rather carefree about the entire predicament.

Alison wasn’t paying attention to her surroundings, the sudden voice from Cait caused her to jump, startled.Though the younger girl was slightly relieved, she didn’t feel intimidated by Cait’s appearance at all. “H-Hi” she greeted nervously, offering a brisk wave.

“I totally know where I’m going..” She blatantly lied, smiling weakly. Alison slowly began to walk towards Cait and her pokemon, in hopes that the woman would be able to help her.

her pokemon's stances became increasingly defensive as alison approached, the bipedal creatures stepping forward and lowering their heads as they eyed the woman and her companion. cait didn't discourage them from doing so, but the red-head did appear relatively harmless - her demeanor seemingly genuine.

'but you can't be too careful nowadays.'

she had learned her lesson sometime ago - it was foolish to trust everyone and everything.

"you're... lost?"

the inquiry was lightly tinged with amusement as her head lightly cocked to the side.

"is there somewhere you wanted to go? or somewhere you needed to be?"

cait prided herself for being intimately familiar with a majority of hoenn's woodlands and their spawling paths, having explored them for roughly two years since leaving her tribe's compound.

Alison took a brief moment to stop her approach, noticing that Cait and her pokemon were still a little wary of her intentions. Realizing that she may have been slightly naive, she began to step backwards a little.

“Yeah.. was I obvious?” Alison answered bashfully, the girl couldn’t conceal her embarrassment as her cheeks reddened with a soft rosy blush. Worried that the woman would take her for a fool; having to wander in and then rely on a stranger.

“Trying to get to rustboro city..” She responded, her cheeks still reddened. Alison figured that she could explain how she got lost. She was under the impression that Cait truly wanted to help. “I I hoped to catch pokemon too, they are yet to be seen tho..” The time she spent in the woods was rather uneventful, she began to wonder if pokemon showed up during a certain time.

"'rustboro city,'" she parroted.

she reached into her pocket, fishing out her compass in order to accurately discern the route. cait considered both it and their immediate surroundings, her eyes traveling the length of the path where she had originated from.

"this path splits into two separate ones roughly a mile from here," she said. "one circles back to petalburg city and the other leads you toward rustboro. you'll want the road that cuts straight as an arrow - the one that splits off into a curve will have you circling back."

the woman pockets the compass, snapping her fingers to regain her pokemon's attention.

"heel."

the breloom obey, settling at her sides and crouching down.

"what pokemon were you trying to catch? and what's your name? i'm cait," she introduced.

cait refained from extending a hand, merely dipping her head politely toward the woman.

Alison's gaze followed Cait, nodding gently and listening carefully as she explained where the two routes went. "Straight like an arrow, got it." She repeated, smiling happily. She was glad to run into Cait the help was greatly appreciated and much easier to follow compared to the map.

As Cait snapped her fingers it also caught the attention of Alison's, the girl would look towards Cait's pokemon and was impressed; with how quickly they obeyed their trainers command. Her eyes would meet Cait's when she asked the question, "Anything really.. I'm not very particular." She didn't mention her disliking of bug types. "I'm Alison, thanks for helping me Cait." She also bowed her head respectfully, her attention drawn to the sounds of nearby rustling.

She began to slightly sweat, a nervous smile as she looked back at Cait. "Though.. I don't really know how to catch pokemon."

interest lined her features in response to such an admission, the woman's gaze turning analytical as it discreetly swept over alison's form. she was a lovely young woman who looked to be roughly eighteen or younger; which put cait at ease.

'so she's just some fresh-faced trainer?'

she'd seen them enter her gym in droves, an eager gleam in their eye as they sought to claim their first or even second badge.

"it's not particularly difficult," she said. "you have a raichu - which means you have a sizeable advantage if you deal with a weaker pokemon."

cait is reminded of her first few days figuring out the whole 'training' thing. she had accumulated pokemon from both the gambling halls and the wilds during her years in and after joining the league, gradually building up her personal army.

"breee."

her breloom's utterance was edged with hostility, the sound directed at a creature that emerged from a nearby clump of wild grass. the woman didn't appear interested at first, but her eyes gleamed at the sight of a thwackey once she identified the foreign creature.

'my lucky day.'

she dipped her head at the woman before directing her focus at the grass-type, deciding to select a filled red and white capsule from her belt.

the pokemon boasting a pair of vacant eyes settled before her, the parasite that had overtaken its mind post-evolution steering its movements.

"parasect - sleep powder."

her orders were obeyed, the pokemon capable of directing the airborne sedatives toward the unsuspecting creature. the monkey had very little time to react, already breathing in a large mouthful of the stuff before it fell to one knee.

"slash."

there bug-type rushed forward, surprisingly quick despite the burden upon its back. the pincer delivered the attack with startling accuracy, the slashing movement resulting in a wound that left the drowsy pokemon reeling. without missing a beat, cait produced a unoccupied pokeball - giving it an almost casual toss.

Alison's pokemon were obtained as gifts from her family and friends. She carried limited knowledge in battles and training. There wasn't much of a desire to collect all eight badges, or to rise in fame. Alison just wished to become stronger; more dependable for herself and her pokemon. "Ahhh.." There was a small nod of acknowledgement, glimpsing down Alison would meet the gaze of her Alolan raichu who looked rather bored. The red-head pondered how the raichu would feel about battling, she didn't know as they never did one.

Alisons thoughts shifted elsewhere. Onto a wild thwackey that emerged from the nearby bushes, Alison would take a few steps back noticing that the older dark-skinned woman expressed interest in capturing it. She observed carefully from a safe distance, curiosity twinkling in her blue eyes. She never experienced a battle from this close, only witnessing it on the television.

Her eyes sparkled even more upon seeing Cait releasing a parasect, a pokemon that was rarely seen in Galar. Watching Cait was impressive; her orders were clear and swift, her pokemon also obeyed without asking any questions having full faith in their trainers capability. The thwackey was defeated quicker than Alison had expected "That was amazing!" Alison applauded, completely impressed. She stepped closer seeing how the thwackey was currently being contained by a pokeball.

She stopped her approach noticing that Raichu was becoming hostile. Turning her head a wild roserade nearby caught her by surprise. Alison wasn't really expecting it, but she felt a little brave after watching Cait's battle a moment ago. "Raichu use-" Before finishing her statement, Alison's raichu would rapidly fly forward, firing a thunderbolt at the grass type. Alison was a little flustered that her pokemon wasn't obeying her command, but it seemed that the move was effective. As the roserade struggled to move through the paralyzing effect.

Alison figured it would be best to be safe, "S-Slam!" Her command lacked conviction but her raichu did end up following the order; the move was a direct hit since the roserade couldn't move due to the paralysis. Alison saw her chance, fumbling with a vacant pokeball as she tossed it rather flimsily towards the roserade.

cait observed the novice's actions following her own encounter with the wild thwackey, curious to see how she'd fair against the roserade. she fumbled during the first few moments of the skirmish, but succeeded in weakening the grass-type just enough to attempt a capture.

'that looked like a fully-matured roserade too. impressive.'

if the girl decided to allow it to remain in her main roster, alison would find it possessed a diverse move set once properly trained.

"good job," she praised.

her expression warmed as she offered her praise, the woman's painted lips spreading to form a grin.

"the more pokemon on your team the better."

she returned her parasect, placing its standard-issue capsule onto the magnetic attachments lodged into the faux leather of her belt loop. the woman had more than the usual seven minimized orbs on her waist; the amount of pokemon she presently carried appearing to be ten or more.

"that's an interesting accent you have," she commented, her tone conversational. "where are you from?"

Raichu didn't comply completely, but Alison understood that training and timing would offer a remedy. For the time being she was overjoyed with how her first battle went. "Nice work Raichu!" She gave the pokemon a pat well done before turning her attention back to the darker toned woman. Lips forming a wide grin, "Thanks Cait!" She beamed.

"Its a lot more thrilling then I expected" Alison admitted her fingers already grasping onto a vacant pokeball. Eager to meet new pokemon and add them onto her roster which she hoped to expand significantly.

The question was a little unexpected but Alison was used to answering the question, Cait wasn't the first to ask. "Oh Im from Wyndon Galar!" She stated happily "I'm here because of family" She quickly added in case Cait was curious. "How about you Cait? Are you from Hoenn?"

her smile lessened, the woman's eyes rounding ever so slightly.

"galar? i see..."

it was a poor decision on her family's part to consent to the young woman's presence here. this region would likely become a war zone after the tentative peace that had lasted for only a handful of months.

'team rocket are dangerous and the league cannot be trusted.'

reminding herself that she had been questioned in turn, she responded - though her expression now remained openly pensive.

"i am," she said, nodding her head. "from fortree, actually. born and raised."

cait's accent could be appropriately described as southern, her partially isolated community boasting such a manner of speaking.

"you're returning to galar soon, i hope?"

the woman's eyebrows were raised, her look expectant and her tone slightly clipped.

"there's a war just around the corner. i doubt your family would want to be caught in the crossfire."
