The stars were bright the moon was new.

She stood in dark water a foot deep, rippling shadows contrasting sharply with the curling bright edges of small waves. A few meters away, staring back at her was a Shadow Alakazam.

Darkrai circled, presiding as a safety measure.

“Pull something from this water.”

Smart enough to make jokes, the other corrupted genius hoisted a loose stone and hurled it telekinetically. Dark energy corkscrewed outward from the Legendary off to the side, in order to block it from impacting its avatar’s head, but she was already gone—skimming under the crest of a wave and appearing a few feet over. If nothing else, the pokemon’s nature had become predictable. It didn’t like her, and she had to be ready to dodge at a moment’s notice.

Remaining calm this time, she locked eyes with it and breathed out slowly. Her eyes went icy, and the Alakazam gradually became drawn in by them, appearing less aggressive.

“Something alive, please.”

HYPNOSIS was not something she’d honed quite yet. Before it had effectively drawn the Alazakam into a drowsy trance, she became weary, tripping back towards the water just as TELEKINESIS lifted her into the air. This was as expected, and was also why they were in the water.

Before she could get too high up, Darkrai intercepted with a DARK PULSE, and Lulu was thrown back into the water with a splash. Fuck. Much good one foot had done. Sputtering, she righted herself and stepped a bit deeper.

She tried again. It would do as she said, or it would fall.

“You can't beat me. You might as well obey.”

A Solrock passed by overhead, not daring to interrupt whatever strange things were going on below.

Her quest for power over the Shadow Alakazam was not the right approach, and it had been expressing that the whole time. It simply wouldn’t happen. Lulu was stubborn, though.

She breathed, hissing, almost growling as her eyes took on a denser glow—but it was too much. The Alakazam, pushed over the threshold of her out-of-control HYPNOSIS, fell into the water, asleep.

Lulu deflated, shadows which had been rising then disappearing into the shallow depths at her feet again. Her eyes returned to normal. “Sshhit. Damn..” A variety of expletives were grumbled as she returned the frustrating pokemon to its ball.

Drenched, water dripping off her angered face, she spat salt. A larger wave than expected hit her off guard, knocking her a step and onto the barbs of a Mareanie. The POISON STING was enough to cause her to cry out in surprise. “Fuck!”

She backed away, watching the Mareanie drift off. “That’s… _{not g o o d . . .}” Her vision began to grow hazy. She trekked through the water, becoming dizzier with each step before vomiting at the edge.

Everything spun.

_{“Shit…”} She hit the ground, ear full of sand. Unconscious.
