Summer was soon approaching and with heat came drought, causing some areas of Hoenn that were more semiarid to be at risk of spontaneous wildfires. Quinn had been dispatched by the Weather Institute to do a visual inspection of Route 112, searching for physical data as to whether the area was in need of intervention from the prototype they’d been working on. “I love field work, how about you, Doppler?” Quinn smiled and looked towards the Castform that was floating alongside him, which let out a cheerful cry in response. On this particularly cloudless day, Doppler took on the appearance of the sun itself, bright and shining visually and emotionally.

As the two of them approached Route 112, smoke billowed in the near distance, forcing Quinn to pick up his pace slightly. “Oh...crap.” Underbrush had already begun to catch fire around the trees, some sections of foliage already in a full and uncontrollable blaze. “Crap, crap, crap!” Seemed as though they were too late to intervene, and it would take hours to calibrate the weather machine. “We have to take this into our own hands, Doppler.” Rolling up his sleeves, Quinn pointed towards the flames and looked towards his Castform. “We gotta find the source and put out the fire!”

Hope you don't mind me jumping in!

Working on getting a better grasp of things on how to really work on all this ranger business that he’d been inducted into, Tadashi had been given a notice that there seemed to be smoke coming up from a certain section of Route 112. There was no information on how mild or not the situation was, only that it had been spotted by some not so capable passersby, and there should be another ranger there on the scene too. Naturally though there was strength in numbers, and Tadashi was really enjoying the idea of getting to work on things beyond himself, helping out where there might be trouble was something he wanted to keep trying to do to the best of his ability.

It wasn’t long, sat on Nanghi’s back, knowing the elephant was faster in her strides as she lumbered through any brush and such, that Tadashi was able to smell the smoke in the air. Cassio beside him stiffened, his fur beginning to prickle, and Ostinato was primed and ready as their splashy defender, when in the distance Tadashi caught the sound of a voice that sounded a bit distressed.

”That way Nanghi, I heard someone,” Tadashi urged as he moved then to situate closer to her ears, nudging with one foot to the side he wanted her to start moving in. Cassio and Ostinato could see the smoke now starting to billow over the trees, but Tadashi wasn’t quite sure where the voice was if they didn’t keep talking.
”Hey! Is someone out here,” he called out, hoping that it wasn’t too late or that there was too much damage done. The smell of the smoke was permeating now, and Tadashi wanted to do his best with Ostinato to get things under control.

“Doppler, we could use a little change in weather, dontcha think?” Quinn nudged the Castform slightly with an encouraging smile, knowing that his Pokemon would understand what he was getting at. Doppler began to slowly orbit around their trainer in a circle as they prepared a Rain Dance, clouds beginning to form overhead and blotting out the sunlight. “Good work!” It wasn’t long before the rain started to fall all around them, extinguishing some of the smaller flames but unable to combat the raging blaze that was beginning to build. “You’re looking great, Doppler!” The Castform sighed as they transformed in their gloomier Rainy Form, personality shifting with the drearier weather.

“Huh?” Quinn turned as a voice called out from behind him, locating the source rather quickly despite the falling rain. “Oh, hello!” A friendly smile stretched across his face at the welcome sight of a stranger, glad that he wouldn’t be alone to combat the wildfire. “Any chance you can help out? Something started this fire, we need to make sure it doesn’t spread and stop the source!”

The smell of smoke was still prominent, and Tadashi’s keen senses told him that it was only getting stronger with every passing second, but just moments after he’d pointed Nanghi towards a direction that he’d heard a voice, he could smell rain in the air, and felt the sun’s rays disappear from his skin. That was definitely a good sign, rain would certainly help!

Ostinato was ready, the small otter was rearing to go at seeing ash and ember blow up into the air around them in the distance, but then Tadashi heard that voice again, significantly closer now, and they’d heard his call out to them. Being outside always created its issues, there was too much open space for sound to disappear, so he couldn’t very well see the figure as Nanghi came to a stop, but Cassio snuffed and stood on the elephant’s back, telling Tadashi that he could see the person in question now.

”Yeah, we’re here to help, it smells like we’ve got here just in time,” Tadashi replied, taking Ostinato up into one arm as he held Cassio’s leash with the other, and they quickly made their way down Nanghi’s extended trunk to reach the ground.
”It’s a good thing some rain started coming in,” he commented, unaware of the small water drop of a Pokemon that had actually summoned the weather.

”Nanghi can start to clear brush and dig up some dirt around the fire so it doesn’t spread as quickly, do you know where the source is,” Tadashi questioned as the Copperajah trumpeted, starting to stomp and huff and swing her trunk to start clearing out brush and other such things that would only cause more fire to spread.

“Sounds like a good idea!” Quinn actually had no idea how to successfully stop a forest fire, assuming that their suggestion would work simply because he had nothing better to go on. “Usually wildfires like these are caused by wild Pokemon, so we’ll need to find which one and calm it down.” Sheets of rain crashed against the flames, helping stem the flow of flames but only creating more smoke in the process. “Make sure you don’t breathe in the smoke!” Quinn called out towards the stranger as he started jogging off towards the flames, wrapping a scarf from his messenger bag around his face.

Traversing the forest was difficult between the heat and acrid smoke, making sure to keep the Castform close so they wouldn’t get separated. “Doppler, Weather Ball!” Doppler exhaled a small sigh and began to generate a sphere of water in front of him, sending it crashing forward into a mass of flames. “Path is clear up here!” He pushed forward with the Castform, hoping that @tadashiootori was still following behind.

If there was one thing that Tadashi hadn't accounted for in more or less running head first into a wild fire that he was likely not as prepared for as he'd initially thought or hoped, it was the fact that the longer it went on, the more and more prominent the smoke became. He couldn't see it, it wasn't obstructing him any as far as being able to tell where he was standing or where the person who was there with him too was, but his sense of smell was being assaulted entirely with the smoke that was building around them, and the heat was that much more apparent around him too.
"Right, wild Pokemon, okay," Tadashi agreed, worried then that he might not be of much help, he couldn't hardly identify one Pokemon from another just by seeing something out there, only if he heard a call or something out in the fire, and had heard it before to know what it was, and that was dodgy at best... He was here to try though, despite Cassio growling beside him, he started to follow the figure through the trees.

Keeping a close pace, easily at least being able to follow along, Cassio kept close to Tadashi and Ostinato started using his water to keep things at bay and keep things clear while they were moving. He held his shell in his paws and would slash water across the ground to keep embers away and would blow water at overhanging branches to keep flames away from Tadashi and the other male, but the breathing was something he just hadn't been counting on. At best, Tadashi had his shirt over his nose and mouth now, trying to follow Cassio closely who was pulling him in one direction to the next, he trusted the Jolteon with his life and knew that was the best thing he could do.
"What kind of fire Pokemon are in this area? What are we looking for," Tadashi tried to ask, calling over the sound of the flames around them, listening to anything he could to try and catch the sound of something around them.
