Miles Geddes, was originally working at the The Pewter Museum of Science in the Kanto Region. He had worked there for many years, splitting his job between the dig site and training on-site archeologists new to the field. However, he saw an online job ad for an Archeologist at Oreburgh Mining Museum, who had just started their fossil extraction operation and were in need of assistance. The Pewter Museum of Science already had several talented Archeologists, and Miles was excited by the thought of what kind of new fossils might be discovered at the Oreburgh Mining Museum's dig site. He applied and with his work experience and credentials, got an interview and passed it with flying colors. He tendered his resignation with The Pewter Museum of Science and moved to Oreburgh. Sure enough, he did get to see all types of new fossils...new to him anyway since they had already been discovered but just weren't typically found at the dig site in Pewter. He found himself working alongside several other Archeologists, one of which happened to be a woman by the name of Verna Corbett. They naturally started chatting while at work, and found that they had a lot in common besides their choice of occupation. Their relationship progressed naturally, and after a few weeks of casual flirting they started dating. Nearly two years later, they were engaged to be married, and it was around that time the Verna discovered she was pregnant. Aloisa was the only child the couple ever had. It wasn't because of complications, but they found it hard to raise a child when their jobs were so demanding of their time, and didn't think they would be able to give another child enough attention. [break][break] Aloisa's childhood couldn't have been better when it first started off. How many kids could say they got to ride on the back of an Aerodactyl at the age of seven? A freshly revived Aerodactyl probably would have seen her as food, but the Aerodactyl belonged to her mother. Verna had been allowed to keep a few of pokemon whose fossils she had dug up at the dig site and revived, and the Aerodactyl had become tame by that point. Otherwise, Verna never would have allowed it near her daughter. It was only a short flight a few feet off the ground, and strictly supervised, but it was one of those precious childhood memories she would never forget. The Oreburgh Mining Museum had become established as a tourist destination by that time, and as a result both of her parents jobs became even more demanding in terms of time. Thankfully Aloisa was in school by then, but outside of school Verna often took Aloisa to work with her. Verna had okayed it with her employer, but there were certain areas that were off-limits. Aloisa was mostly allowed to stay in the supervised areas where they had activities for tourist's kids. Several years later, Aloisa was checking out one of the new exhibits at the museum when one of the newly hired employees yelled at her for leaning in too close to the fossil on display. Aloisa was fourteen at the time and was quite surprised, since most of the museum employees knew who she was and knew she wouldn't damage the exhibits. Aloisa backed off from the display and got a good look at the woman who had scolded her. What she saw was a middle-aged brunette woman with a very pinched looking noise and sky blue eyes. The woman's haircut was an inverted bob that only went down as far as her ears. Aloisa immediately felt threatened by her, though she didn't understand why at the time. Aloisa apologized and walked away briskly, and that was the first and last encounter she had with the woman. When she talked to her mother later that day, Verna confirmed the woman was new hire at the museum, though she couldn't remember her name offhand. It wasn't a huge deal, but what happened next made Aloisa wish she had paid more attention. [break][break] When Verna started her shift the next morning, she found the exhibit section of the museum taped off with crime tape and there were several officers on the scene. A pair of the officers beelined right to Verna, and she immediately asked what had happened. Aloisa had gone to school as usual and was at the time unaware of the events that had transpired at the museum. The officers didn't tell Verna anything, and didn't seem inclined to believe her shocked look was anything other than false. They started to read her her rights, and slapped a pair of cuffs on her before she even had a chance to protest. Protest she did afterwards though, saying that it all had to be some kind of mistake. She again asked what had happened. That's when one of the officers told her to stop pretending like she didn't know what she'd done. Unbeknownst to Verna, a member of team rocket had managed to infiltrate the museum. The woman had only had limited access with her security keycard as a new hire, but had chatted briefly with Verna just as she had been leaving the building and had pickpocketed her security keycard. Verna hadn't noticed because she had been in a hurry to get home and have some drinks with her husband, as it had been a Friday night and she had the weekend off. The thief had made off with a helix fossil, a root fossil, and two kabuto that had belonged to Verna's colleagues. Thankfully the woman hadn't been able to get into the dome because it had required additional clearance such as facial recognition. The security cameras in the area had somehow been remotely disabled, so there was no way for Verna to prove her innocence. Verna was being accused because her keycard had been registered as being used to access two of the new displays, and the staff area. Verna's pokemon were confiscated by the police, even though they were pokemon her employers had allowed her to keep. What's worse was the Verna was summarily fired, because the evidence against her seemed overwhelming and the museum was not going to keep a thief on their payroll. As for the new employee, she hadn't shown up to work that day but had called in sick, so nobody thought much of it. The actual culprit was questioned along with most of the staff, but was able to get a forged doctor's note to verify her alibi of being home sick. [break][break] It was a huge mess, and Aloisa finally found out about it when her distraught father showed up half-way through the school day and picked her up from school. Aloisa knew her mother would never had done such a thing, and her father Miles was of a similar mindset. Verna had been allowed to keep a few of the pokemon she had revived from fossils every year, so there had been no need for her to rob the place or her fellow employees. The actual thief hadn't made off with much, but it was still more than enough to get Verna serious jail time if she was convicted. Verna was allowed to contact her lawyer, and because Verna had no prior criminal record, she was allowed out of custody on bail but had an ankle bracelet slapped on to ensure she wouldn't try to flee the region. A court date was assigned a few months off from the incident. The police were not able to retrieve the stolen fossils and pokemon upon searching Verna's residence, because she hadn't been the one to steal them. They police believed she had already had a buyer waiting and had stowed the cash somewhere. As for Miles, he was allowed to keep his job since there was no evidence of his involvement. He had worked a completely different shift from his wife, and the day the pokemon had been stolen had been one of his days off. Even so, they revoked his security clearance and placed him on strictly supervised desk duty as a safety measure. He would have quit because of how easily his employer had been willing to believe his wife would do such a thing, but he need the money to cover legal costs. It was mostly corporate folks from head office who believed Verna to be the thief and not people who had known Verna personally. There were several fellow employees who found it hard to believe. [break][break] It didn't take long for Aloisa's classmates to find out when the incident made the local news. Aloisa lost friends for it, and then she got to experience something she had only occasionally had to deal with before: bullying. For some reason, some of her fellow students thought her mother being a thief meant that she must be one as well. If anything went missing in the classroom, even a pen, other students would accuse her of stealing it. If other students didn't bully her, they just straight up avoided her, and she found herself ostracized from her classmates. Her grades nosedived like a Pidgeotto homing in on a Rattata, and she ended up having to take make-up tests and do extra homework. She found it impossible to concentrate with her mother's looming courtdate, and she wanted to clear her mother's name but didn't know how. You might think Aloisa would have suspected the lady that had yelled at her, but she had only ever had one interaction with the woman and it had been relatively brief. Verne hadn't really thought much of the brief conversation she'd had with the woman either, and was personally convinced she'd dropped her keycard on her rush to get home and that someone had found it and used it to rob the museum. The real culprit should have had the sense to find a reason to quit and make off with her stolen goods. She had passed along the stolen goods to her superiors, but then she got greedy. The rocket woman was still employed with the museum and was not a suspect, though she still didn't have the work experience to get higher clearance. It was about a week away from Verna's trial when four more fossils were stolen from display. Two root fossils, a claw fossil, and one old amber. Just like before, the cameras in the area were remotely disabled. It was done by the woman's boyfriend and fellow member of team rocket, who was a skilled hacker. The rocket woman knew she should have waited longer, but the opportunity had been too good to pass up when she been selected to help with setting up the displays for the next day. [break][break] You would think another theft would have cleared Verna's name. Verna's ankle bracelet had placed her at home at the time the second theft had been committed. Nope, they assumed the woman had been Verna's accomplice and brought her back into the station for questioning. The rocket woman had not shown up for work the next day, and the police wanted Verna to tell them where the woman had gone and taken the stolen fossils. Verna was shocked to learn about another theft, and begged the police to investigate the woman more thoroughly. They promised her they were already on it, but didn't believe her when she said she had no knowledge of where her former co-worker had taken off to. The police investigation into the mysterious new hire proved that the name she had used; Mariella Brambilla, was nothing more than a fake identity. The work history was falsified too, but thanks to the woman's hacker boyfriend that the police had no knowledge of, the credentials would initially check out if run through normal security checks. It was only through a well trained police security consultant that they were able to discover that the credentials were in fact fake. They put out a bolo for the missing fake employee, and they got lucky. 'Mariella', was caught in an airport waiting for a flight out of the region to Johto. She had put on a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to try and hide her appearance but the airport ticket agent still recognized her and tipped off the police. A delay was announced for the woman's flight, and while she was reading a magazine and waiting the police showed up and arrested her. While they investigated further, they found the woman had rented a hotel room under her false identity. When they searched the hotel room, they found the shredded remains of a security keycard. For all her cleverness, 'Mariella' had cheaped out on a store-bought paper shredder. The keycard had been shred into strips, but the police were able to piece it back together. They discovered it was Verna's missing security keycard and realized she might not have been involved after all. [break][break] 'Mariella' was questioned but lawyered up right away and refused to talk. They took 'Mariella's' fingerprints and ran them through multiple databases in order to get her real identity. Given the fact that she had been booked to fly out to Goldenrod City, Johto, that was one of the databases they searched and they got a match. Turns out her real name was Jenevee Talivaa, and she had prior arrests but no convictions due to lack of evidence. This time they had enough evidence to nail her for multiple different charges, and it was enough to make a strong case. When the police updated the head haunchos of the Oreburgh Mining Museum on the results of their search and arrest, they finally realized that Verna was in fact innocent. They dropped the charges against Verna, apologized in writing, and even offered to give her her job back. Most of those at the corporate offices realized she had grounds to sue the company since her arrest had ruined her reputation. Verna was relieved she wasn't going to have to go to court, and her ankle bracelet was removed. However, she could not so quickly forgive her former employer for believing she had been capable of doing such a thing when she had been a loyal employee for years. The arrest and the subsequent fallout had put their family through hell. At least things were finally being made right, because Verna got her pokemon returned to her, since they rightfully belonged to her and hadn't been stolen. As for Aloisa, she was thrilled to have her mom's name cleared at last, but her troubles weren't over right away. Some of her fellow students apologized for the way they treated her, but others had fallen into the habit of bullying her and showed no intention of stopping. It didn't matter anyway, because her parents had had enough. They both tendered their resignations to the museum, and booked a flight to Slateport City in Hoenn. As for Jenevee, she was convicted in court and sentenced to a few years of prison time, though she had been careful to hide any of her connection to team rocket. Aloisa and her parents stayed with Aloisa's grandmother Talicia, until they were able to find jobs within the city. Verna was able to find a job as a Archaeological Consultant, and Miles took longer but he eventually found a job as a Project Archaeologist for a research company. Her parents rented a house in the suburbs and Aloisa moved into it with them. She was enrolled at a new school, and started doing better with her grades now that she wasn't being bullied. It was a much needed fresh start for all of them. The whole incident had soured Aloisa on the possibility of ever getting into her parent's field of work. [break][break] Her life from that point on was pretty normal for a teenager. High school was a time of ups and downs, and she became far more interested in dating than she was in her grades. Her first actual boyfriend was a guy named Vincent Coilean, who was in two of her classes and was the classic class clown. She originally thought he was bullying her with all of the teasing and pranks he pulled, but soon realized there was something more to it than that. He eventually worked up the courage to ask her out, and she was shocked when he asked but quickly agreed. Their relationship was going well for about two months, until he accidentally called her by another girl's name when he was very soused after a rowdy party. She recognized the name as another girl from one of their shared classes, and when she pressed him on it...he was too deep into his cups to deny he had cheated on her. Some of her friends had recognized some red flags and tried to warn her, but she had been too besotted to listen to them. A classic mistake, but it was one she swore she wouldn't let happen again after she broke it off with him. She didn't date again for a good six months after that. The next guy she hooked up with was a cute guy with short spiky blond hair and gray-blue eyes by the name of Shawn Birita. He was in her gym class and he normally got very flustered when she was around, and she eventually realized he might have feelings for her. He seemed too shy to ask her out, so she pulled a reverse uno and asked him out instead, and was successful in securing the relationship. It went well for a few weeks, but he was insecure and had a jealous streak. He didn't like her talking to other guys, and always wanted to know about her whereabouts at all times. Two months into their relationship, and he started trying to tell her who she could and could not hang out with. He started to get more and more controlling, and after discussing it with her friends, she broke it off with him before it could escalate further. He did not take it well and tried starting some rumors about her, but luckily her small but solid group of friends put a kibosh on it by telling anyone who talked about it that he was an angry ex-boyfriend. [break][break] By her final year of high school, she'd been in and out of a few more relationships but none of them had really lasted. She seemed to have poor taste in men or perhaps was just unlucky. She focused on improving her grades to take her mind off her last failed relationship, and eventually passed high school with mediocre grades, though a few were just barely above average. Her mom tried to convince Aloisa to take an internship with her current employer, but Aloisa wasn't interested. After years of seeing pokemon battles broadcast on tv, she had instead developed an interest in becoming a trainer. When she finally explained to her parents what direction she wanted to go in, they were fully supportive of it. They gifted her all of the pokemon they had acquired while working at the museum, including her mother's Aerodactyl. The jobs they had no longer had anything to do with fossil pokemon, and the pokemon they had were being left in their pokeballs far too often. So she started off an a journey she never imagined she'd be making. Neither she, nor her parents, realize that she might attract the wrong kind of attention with those fossil pokemon. They had all left their lives in Sinnoh behind, and also didn't know that Jenevee Talivaa had been released from prison as well after having served her time. Aloisa's seemingly hopeful future, might soon be clouded over by a looming threat.
