Hey wait a second! She recognized this guy! She eagerly waved to matias from the other side of the arena. "Hey!!! Matias!" as she took her spot on the field. She sent out her pokeball as maractus flourished her arms a bit, letting the seeds creating a fun little beat.[break][break]

She smiled as she saw a big ol heckin chonker snorlax. "Alright then, let's get this show started then! You're facing gym leader Melody Miro!" She said as she followed the traditions of hoenn to introduce themselves before a battle.[break][break]

As Matias gave her the first move she took it as setting the tempo for a battle was important. "Maractus let's give em a missle barrage! Pin missle!" Maractus let out a shout as it aimed it's pinmissle towards the sky as they flew up, and then aimed themselves as they fell back down towards snorlax.

the PIN MISSILE lodges into its flabby stomach, damaging, but it soon burns away as flames start to emit through its skin. it gathers, swirls, then pulses in a FIRE BLAST that flies across the battlefield.

Wow WOW! That was some intense heat he made! Maractus was in a pinch as she didn't really have an answer for his attack. "Maractus get out of there!" she ordered, Maractus tried to dodge the fire blast but it still hit it's side causing some damage to the pokemon. Melody frowned as she hated seeing her Pokémon get hurt but the show had to go on did it not? If pin missle didn't work then she was going to try something else! "Maractus! Get in there!" She orders as Maractus seemingly shakes it's arm with a consistent beat before dashing quickly at snorlax with a dark energy. Hopefully Matias used an attack for Maractus's attack to work properly!

the snorlax stands its ground, shifting to brace itself for the SUCKER PUNCH that lands square across its jaw. but that's fine. being in such close proximity doesn't do the maractus any good, especially not when another FIRE BLAST pulses from that close.

Melody's maractus managed to get a hit in! Yes! Wait! Crap! It still was able to use fire blast! "Maractus!" she called out for the pokemon to try and back up but it was too close for maractus to really get away. The maractus used her arms to try and block it but it did little to stop the flames from engulfing the pokemon entirely. [break][break]

Maractus managed to survive but the burn's on it's body were obvious to anyone who looked upon the desert plant. It seemed still raring to fight however so melody steeled her resolve. "Physical attacks aren't doing much and it has access to fire moves.." she said to herself, she couldn't dodge forever against her opponent- Wait a second, what if she didn't have to? Time to put her coordinator brain to the test [break][break]

"Maractus! Trust me! Jump in front of him again!" She calls out as maractus seems confused but goes along with her plan. Maractus gets a running start and leaps how she did previously but this time "Point down and pin missle!" she says as maractus fires pin missles full force to below her feet to get her extra momentum into the air to fly over snorlax's head and moves behind the giant lazy lug. [break][break]

"I fought a snorlax before! They have a hard time moving dont they sergeant?!" she scoffs as Maractus unloads a 2nd pin missle from behind on Snorlax

[attr="class","matias"]spamming the same move would've been viable — actually, it would've been their best option — but it doesn't make for an entertaining battle. and that's the point of this tournament, isn't it?

"switch it up."

snorlax grunts and watches the much more agile maractus propel itself up into the air. PIN MISSILES stick into snorlax and the ground, causing it to reel in pain.

just in time for a THUNDER to crack overhead, striking down at the maractus.

"they really do! that's why we choose not to move much."

Fuckin hell! Of course he'd have an answer for something like that. Someone on Matias's level of experience would always have an answer his pokemon's weaknesses and of course the answer was thunder which could strike from anywhere, he didn't have to turn to hit maractus. [break][break]

The Maractus cried out in pain as it's body was fried, this time via electricity instead of fire. She had to dish out some serious damage and SOON or else Matias was going to absolutely curb stomp her this whole match! That would be an awful way to start off the star tournament! Melody decided to make a risky play [break][break]

"Maractus wood hammer him!" she said as it's arm grew in size and slammed down on snorlax's back and slammed into it as hard as it possibly could, harming itself in the process. Sadly the burn mitigated some of the damage and even hurt maractus.

[attr="class","matias"]spikes pierce through snorlax's THICK FAT, sending it slamming into the ground facefirst. it roars in pain as it's unable to swing its arms behind its back to pull out the spikes.

"damn. that looks like it hurt."

perhaps a little angered, flames wrap around snorlax once again before bursting in a FIRE BLAST.

Welp, Melody watched helplessly as her maractus got engulfed in flames once more. She should have been more prepared for an answer to fire type moves with such an easy weakness to exploit huh? It's what sadly did her in for this battle. Melody's maractus stood still for a moment before collapsing. [break][break]

The only thing stopping it from hitting the floor was that melody had recalled it into it's pokeball. She sighed and sucked on her teeth a little "Oh well. Good match Matias!" she said waving at him. [break][break]

"Onto the next!" she says as she grabs a new pokeball from her bag, this one was gonna be more difficult for him to handle. [break][break]

"Primarina go!" she shouts as her Primarina, her main partner pokemon is sent out onto the field. "Primarina why don't we say hello with a sparkling aria!" she calls out as Primarina gives a bow before belting out a powerful note and creates a bubble from it's nose that erupts into a series of bubbles launched at high speed at Snorlax.

Ah crap, it was boosting it's speed! Melody couldn't let that happen now could she? It wasn't going to be effective but... "Primarina! Icy wind!" she orders as primarina gathers a bit of cold wind in it's hands and shapes like a ball that she then uses her flippers to fling at Rapidash, she knew it wouldn't do much in terms of damage but she had to slow down rapidash before she was too fast to do anything.

the ICY WIND finds rapidash, slowing it down with relative ease. despite that, its flames continue to burn bright in defiance. they then shift, spreading and engulfing the rapidash whole as a FLAME CHARGE carries it right into the primarina.

The icy wind didn't stop rapidash but it did manage to slow it down like melody intended. However that wouldn't stop Matias from continuing to build rapidash's momentum her trainer called out for her to use flame charge as the horse was engulfed in a beautiful ball of flame that absolutely ensared melody- hOLYFUCK it's charging straight at her primarina. [break][break]

"Primarina! Hydro pump her head on!" as Primarina stood her ground and fired off an intense blast off water towards the fire ball hoping it would be enough to stop the creature.
