Oscar approached his latest opponent, amusement crossing his face as he witnessed Zac Ramsay's shenanigans. There was nothing more heartwarming than watching a man play with his Omastar. As Zac noticed him, Oscar provided a wave of greeting. "Yeah, more or less. I brought along something special just for you."

Oscar looked down at Zac's Omastar, whose bulging eyes provided a sense of unease. Still, it did have an odd cuteness to it that he couldn't quite understand. It was such a shame that he had to beat the living shit out of it for sport. Oscar was given the go ahead to begin, and a devious smile would form across his lips. 

"Alright then, let's dance Ramsay! Sand Attack!"

The beach shifted, preluding the explosive arrival of Oscar's champion. A creature burst from the sand, sending a hefty wave of it straight toward its opponent. As the sand died down, a kabutops would be revealed. Its eyes flashed as it launched itself forward, attempting to deliver a Night Slash while the Omastar was (hopefully) distracted.

Oscar shrugged as the action began, "Gotta be honest, when I chose my pokemon I did not anticipate us matching."

Bootes's Zac-like eyes went wide with shock as the sharp-shelled, sand-spraying, slasher shot towards him! Already in Mimic mode, he did the only thing he could do: copy Omni. His face dropped the rubbery imitation of Zac, instead becoming sharper, more triangular. 

The dual Night Slashes closed on Omastar like a pair of scissors, and his Weak Armor cracked like a geode to reveal glints of the succulent blue flesh inside. Terrified and naked, he scrabbled backwards at top speed, tossing curled handfuls of sand and broken shell into the face of his attacker. Sand Attack! Right back at ya!

As his Night Slash landed, the sound of cracking shell sent chills up Omni's spine. The exposure of delicious blue flesh ignited an ancient hunger, a deep seeded desire to devour his ancient prey. Omni's eyes rolled back into his head, leaving a white vacant stare as his bloodlust took hold.

Intoxicated by a desire for violence, Omni charged forward to slice his prey into bite-sized pieces. However, in his foolhardiness Omni would charge right into his opponent's sand attack. The sand slammed into his wide-open eyes, blinding Omni as he veered left and tripped over a rock. He tumbled over several times, before splaying out upon the sand.

Omni's eyes rolled around in his skull, blinking rapidly as he tried to expel the sand from under his eyelids. Oscar shook his head, "That's what you get for getting violent, try thinking before you rush in!" Omni growled as he reflected on his humiliation, slowly rising as the sands shifted around him. There was a rumble, and then a crash as boulders burst from beneath the sand. Using Ancient Power, Omni would send the boulders hurdling toward his exposed opponent.

Zac Ramsay

Bootes' rubbery inner body rolled forward, pressing itself into a sticky blue wheel that Rolled away from the boulders. It picked up speed -and sand, and pumice, and bits of broken shell- quickly, helped along by the dozen tentacles that slapped the ground with every revolution, pulling Omastar along the beach at a decent clip.

"Nice dodge!" Zac called through cupped hands, as his little fossil sped off down the beach. Bootes curved a moment later, heading back towards Omni. "He lacks much of a punch without that shell of his, but he's no slouch in the speed department! How does Omni go on land?" 

Prehistorically, Bootes was prey and Omni was a terrifying predator. With his shell already shattered, there was only one option: keep away from Kabutops and wait for an opening. 

Even without its shell, that Omastar's rollout would pack quite a punch if left unhindered. Omni could dodge out of the way now, but as long as that thing kept rolling it would just get harder and harder to avoid. He had to try to stop it in its tracks, it was now or never.

Water crept from beneath the sand and began pooling around Omni. Once enough water had formed, the hunter burst forward and used the water to propel him into the rolling Omastar at a relentless speed (Aqua Jet). He wouldn't be free of suffering, but all that mattered was stopping that rolling before it got out of hand.

Oscar winced as he saw what was about to happen, "I suppose just as well as he does in water."

Zac Ramsay

"I hear that," Zac said, laughing for a split second before the impact.

The gooey form of Bootes splatted against Omni's head like an oversized sticky hand. The Omastar's tentacles stretched from the impact, and his blue, suckered appendages grabbed hold of his enemy is a gooey embrace. Omastar twisted, using his whole body as a singular muscle as he tried to smash Omni into the ground with a jet-propelled SUBMISSION. 

At first, Omni thought he more or less avoided damage upon hitting his target. Sure the impact kinda hurt, but without a shell the Omastar was too squishy to cause too much pain. Of course this false sense of security caused him to underestimate his opponent, and as the wiggly latched on with its tentacles Omni would soon see his mistake.

The toss up was easily, and thanks to Omni's momentum the slam was swift and painful. Sand bellowed into the air as agony shot up and down Omni's body. When the dust cloud cleared, the once proud predator could be clearly seen with his head stuck into the beach. Oscar shook his head, "If that weren't so embarrassing I'd find that funny."

Omni began to wiggle as he attempted to pull himself out, though it proved difficult thanks to his scythe-hands. Eventually he went slack, seemingly giving up his effort. Except that couldn't be farther from the truth. The ground once again began to shake as boulders emerged from under the sand. One of the boulders pushed Omni up, lifting his head out from his sandy prison (Ancient Power). 

As he landed on his feet, the look in his eyes was nothing less than absolute burning hatred. He let out a blood curdling scream, pointing a scythe toward the Omastar to signal every summoned boulder to crash into its position.

Zac Ramsay

Bootes's eyes went wide as the barrage of rocks was unleashed. The ancient stones tore through the air, scraping and clattering together as they filled his vision, and then- WHUMP! The rocks all landed on Bootes in quick succession, slamming, crunching and chipping as they formed a dense pile of stone.

"Huh," Zac said, surprised at the turn of events. "Well, that was a pretty solid match, mate," he said, sticking out a hand to shake with Oscar. "You sure know how to use the biome-" Zac was cut off by a low grinding sound. He turned back to the rock pile. It was shifting.

The stones that had landed on Bootes shuddered, and the whole pile started to spin, like chunks of melon inside the world's slowest blender. "Oh we're not over yet!" Zac said, his face lighting up with surprise. The rocks churned and swirled, and sank down into the wet sand as a WHIRLPOOL of grit, gravel, and chunks of granite broadened.

Zac took a few steps back as the rim of the stone whirlpool stretched, encompassing more of the sandy terrain. It extended under Omni, as Bootes tried to suck his enemy down into the blender of grinding, clashing rocks. 

Oscar was more than happy to accept a win, pride for his durable partner beaming from his satisfied smile. Yet before official handshakes could be exchanged, a twist appeared! Zac's omastar was still kicking, and it had another trick up its--shell. 

[cue dramatic music]

Omni didn't see it coming, noticing only as the sand beneath him began to shift. As he looked into whirlpool as he began to sink within its sand, anger flowing through him as his opponent refused to go down. This fury spurred him on, prompting him to break free of the sand's grasp by calling upon the water within.

Omni burst forward, riding a wave of manifested water around the whirlpool's circumference (Aqua Jet). The enraged surfer dodged jagged rocks and beach debris as he gradually made his way toward the center, where his target surely waited for him. Oscar was amazed, pumping his fist as his champion's adaptation.

"Fuck yeah! Get 'em Omni! Bring home the gold!"

Omni got closer and closer to the whirlpool's core, intending to slam his scythe into his opponent and end this fight for good. He probably would have nailed it too, if a particularly large rock didn't pop up in front of him. It was too fast, too sudden. There was no way he could react that fast, not even a metagross would have been able to process the right timing to dodge. 

Omni slammed into the rock, abruptly ending his mad dash toward victory. He slowly slid down, sinking completely into the sand of the shifting whirlpool. Oscar slowly realized what had happened, lowering his arms as the last bit of Omni sank under the sand. He blinked rapidly, unsure of what to think.

"Um--will he be okay?"

Zac Ramsay

Omni's mad dash and sudden spill delivered him right into the core of the whirlpool. Right into Bootes' waiting tentacles. As the last of Omni sunk under the whirling sand, blue limbs poked out of the sand. They stretched like blueberry gummi ropes, enclosing the area where Omni had disappeared.

It was time to finish this battle, and if Omni wasn't already knocked out from his rough tumble then surely another SUBMISSION would finish the job.

Omni felt tentacles latching around him, slowly pulling his body out of the sand. The daze caused by his collision faded quickly as he realized what was about to happen, and if he didn't do something this fight would be over. As he was pulled out of the sand, he would attempt one last ditch effort to break free.

Water once again pooled beneath Omni, rocketing him in the opposite direction of the omastar's Submission (Aqua Jet). It would now be a tug of war match between the two, with the winner clenching a decisive victory.

Zac Ramsay

Bootes was pulled by the jet, his tentacles stretching and stretching. However he had one last trick up his beak. Omni's trick, actually. With a crunching, hissing spray, Bootes shot a thick jet of SAND ATTACK right into the face, mouth, and eyes of the escaping Kabutops.

If anything was going to throw off the rhythm of the enemy, it was getting a blast of regurgitated sand fired into each and every one of your facial orifices.  

The Sand Attack worked exactly as intended. Omni was too focused on trying to escape, that the trick perfectly disorientated him as it hit. He swerved, propelling himself in the same direction of Omastar's submission. Thanks to the added speed of Aqua Jet, the resulting impact would be twice has hard. Sand blew everywhere, Omni leaving a large crater where he had landed. 

Oscar ran up to the crater, looking down as he feared the worst. Sure enough, Omni's twitching form could be found in the crater's center. Oscar sighed, this fight was finished. 

"So close..." Oscar mused, withdrawing Omni. His disappointment was palpable, his shoulders slumping as he reattached Omni's pokeball to his belt. Looks like they'll need some more training once they get home. Oscar turned to Zac, his expression becoming much more content once he faced the gym leader. "Gotta say Zac, that's a hell of an Omastar you got there."
