The summer tournament, Asriel's only purpose for signing up was to see how strong the trainers of hoenn were he didn't care about winning. "hello.." he greets 'liam king' before accepting his handshake, not realizing the mans true identity until he felt the presence of a strangely familiar scar.

His eyebrow's raise in suspicion: there was only one person which he knew that had such a scar. Seeing those amber eyes made it click almost instantaneously. He was truly astounded to meet with Gavin here out of all places. "yes.. sir." The tone of his voice changing from easy going to more formal, while Asriel didn't know the details he did know that Gavin was going through some shit and one thing he understood for sure was he was an underboss, his superior.

Taking notice of the lucario summoned by gavin, he's unsure if it's the same one from back in kanto but the message he was trying to send was clear. Asriel tosses forward his pokeball, and a nidoking appears onto the field - it would be the same one he had ever since kanto days. Asriel whistles as well, though his is a lot lower compared to Gavins. It grabs the attention of the nidoking and eyes lock onto it's opponent - a pangoro.

The referee declares the first move would be gavin's and asriel's.

Asriel's tongue clicks and his nidoking spreads toxic spikes around the opponents feet.

They'd been equals, once, pupils under THEO BECKETT's guidance. Much has changed for Gavin in the years since he'd left Kanto and he wonders if Asriel could say much of the same. Raziel's defection had hit most of them hard, he's sure, but none more than the boy's twin.

They'll have to catch up, after this.

He takes his place next to his old teammate and it's like being transported back in time as he hears the low whistle, the familiar click.

The Pangoro must contend with the spikes laid down by Nidoking — Mandibuzz, with no such restriction, targets the poison-type with a BONE RUSH. A sharp click of Gavin's tongue sees Lucario leap to its partner's defense with DETECT, snatching the bone out of the air before it can strike. It may not have been his old Lucario, but it was well trained.

Much as Asriel wished to converse with Gavin again, it would have to wait until this battle was won. He intended to make up all the missing years by guaranteeing this win. He feels nostalgic fighting alongside gavin again, it was something that was missed. Asriel is impressed with the lucario's speed and Gavin's reaction to the mandibuzz's attack without intervention his nidoking would of sustained heavy damage.

The pangoro seemingly unbothered by the toxic spikes set down by nidoking, pushes forward. Bearing sharp fangs as it uses crunch on nidoking. Asriel clicks his tongue twice, causing nidoking to charge relentless toward the pangoro with it's tough horn, the crunch isn't a bother, the megahorn overpowers the pangoro's crunch causing it to retreat back.

Gavin watches, gaze intense, as Asriel's Nidoking charges into battle. He's seen the creature's performance before but it's no less impressive in the way it barrels through the Pangoro's attack, overpowering.

Gavin nods, approving.

Mandibuzz dives toward Lucario with an AIR SLASH, but the dual-type's INNER FOCUS prevents it from flinching away from the blow. With a click of Gavin's tongue, it COPIES the attack and lunges for the Pangoro, flanking the bear from behind as Nidoking approaches from the front.

Asriel felt it would be best to team up and focus on taking down a single target. He quickly glances over towards Gavin when he commands the lucario to attack the pangoro with a whistle. He's pleased to find out that gavin had the same thought: Asriel's sharp whistle lingers in the air.

The nidoking winds up it's fist, the pokemon goes for an uppercut on the pangoro, the punch steeped with poison it lands cleanly.

As the duo focuses on Pangoro, the trainer with the Mandibuzz lends aid to its own teammate in the form of a TAILWIND that ripples across the field. Gavin scrunches his expression against the breeze.

Nidoking lands a solid punch, and Gavin clicks his tongue.

Lucario aims for the back of Pangoro's leg with a DRAINING PUNCH of its own, knocking the dual-type onto a knee.

The tailwind causes Asriel to frown. The speed boost would be more troublesome then anything, especially combined with fierce pokemon such as mandibuzz and pangoro.

It would be ideal to wrap this battle up swiftly.

This time Asriel signals to his nidoking with a hand gesture, the poison type understood his trainers intent very quickly. Charging it's fist with poison and aiming a poison jab at the pangoro, an easy target since it was brought onto one knee thanks to Gavin's lucario.

To both of their surprise, the pangoro evades the attack. The tailwind allowing it to easily evade the attack, however it didn't attack just yet due to the heavy punch from Lucario.

Instead the Mandibuzz comes to it's teammates aide. Powerful blades of wind powered by the previous tailwind, slicing at Asriel's nidokings tough armor like it was paper.

The nidoking roars out in pain, stumbling backwards unable to retaliate with another attack since a flinch has been inflicted onto him.

"damn..." Asriel utters under his breath, his teeth grit in annoyance.

As expected, the tailwind set up by the Mandibuzz presents an immediate problem. Gavin scowls as the Pangoro dodges the Nidoking's attack, leaving the dual-type wide open for the vulture's aerial assault.

Lucario isn't quick enough to defend, but a click of Gavin's tongue sees it lend aid with its HEAL PULSE, instead.

Mandibuzz' feathers shimmer with IRON DEFENSES.

Asriel viewed it as pointless to try and take down the Mandibuzz, due to it using Iron defense defeating it would take longer and be more tiring. His gaze locks onto the pangoro, it'd be ideal to take down the beast first. The heal pulse by Gavin's lucario rejuvenates nidoking enough for it hit the pangoro with a poison jab inflicting the dark type with a bad poison

Pangoro falters as poison shocks through its system. Gavin smirks.

"Good work."

With the Pangoro suffering from the toxin's effects, they no longer need to consider it much of a threat. It'll fall with or without their further intervention — so Gavin's attention shifts to Mandibuzz.

Click.

Lucario dodges a DARK PULSE of energy from Mandibuzz before leaping skyward with a DRAINING PUNCH.

The battle begins to favor Asriel and Gavin, Asriel deducted that the Pangoro should soon fall due to it's weakened state.

Lips crack into a small smile with Gavin's compliment, hearing the praise made him feel light and fuzzy. Never did Asriel imagine that hearing such a thing would invoke such a feeling.

The smile widens when the mandibuzz is dealt heavy damage by the lucario's draining punch. Asriel had been worried for nothing.

Nidoking rushes towards the pangoro, slamming into the dark-type with a megahorn. It's the finishing move, as the pangoro stumbles onto the ground unable to continue, the defeated pokemon swiftly recalled by a crushed trainer.

All that was left was the mandibuzz.

Victory was in their grasp.

Pangoro falls, and victory is near certain.

Mandibuzz suddenly finds itself faced with two opponents at once, shrieking its disdain as it struggles to decide which of the two to focus on. Lucario, the closer of the two, finds itself targeted by a BONE RUSH that it COPYCATS in order to deflect the attack.

"We'll play defense," Gavin decides, voice low so that the trainers on the other side of the field can't overhear.

True to this promise, the next attack from Mandibuzz is DETECTED and diffused.

A nod is given towards Gavin hearing that they would stay on the defensive. Asriel thought it'd be easier to just go all out since it was 2v1 but there was no fault in taking precautions, Gavin was a careful man after all.

Working off from Lucario, Nidoking charges forward towards the mandibuzz, slamming into the dark type with a poison jab: inflicting a poison.

"One last push" He utters towards Gavin.
