Melody had been getting battle opportunities left and right with people she had never met before. The lord knows it was STRESSFUL! But she kept a smile on her face cause for a lot of people this was the first time in forever they could just sit back and relax and have some fun and let loose! Melody as a gym leader accepted almost every single challenge thrown her way! Today's challenges were underwater battles and so she rolled on up with her babies ready to win some matches! She wore a simple swimsuit and her hair tied up with a blue ribbon to contrast her purple hair. Once she saw her opponent across the battlefield she'd wave and shout over to him "Hey! How are ya?" she'd ask him as she readied her pokeball.

Once, Declan Walsh had ordered her assassination. That she'd survived their infamous Wolfe had been as shocking as it was infuriating. Was she an avatar? Had it been the influence of Xerneas? Gavin refuses to believe that Emma was mistaken or, worse, lying about snapping the gym leader's neck. No matter what had transpired between them, she had his trust.

So how did you survive?

There's no hint of his turmoil as he takes his place across the battlefield. The scuba gear he wears conceals the majority of his scars.

"Ready to get into the water and out of this bloody heat." His Galarian accent betrays enough of the reason; it was colder, in Galar, nothing like this tropical region. "Good luck to ya!"

He tosses a pokeball out over the water and then dives after it.

Though it fell outside of his normal area of expertise, the Galarian Slowking was an interesting enough specimen for him to give battling with it a shot.

Woah! A galarian slowking! She hadn't seen one in person before, it was so amazing to see how pokemon adapt to their environment differently. She pulled out her pokedex to scan it and add it to her library of info! "Woah! He's so cool!" she comments cheerily, seems like he isnt a water type anymore but he still retains some of his distant cousin's features huh? "Good luck! Don't forget to have fun!" she'd wave as he immediately dove into the water. [break][break]

She was so excited to get out in the water that she dove right into the water without even releasing her pokemon yet. She swam down towards the bottom of the shallow area where the battle was going to be conducted. She looked around, this was definitely not like the diving spots near lilycove or even sootopolis! [break][break]

Melody's blood was pumping as she was eager to get going, she grabbed the dive ball on her hip and launched it out in front of her "Go Gastrodon!" she said as the sea slug appeared and stared at the weird looking galarian slowking. "You can have the first move! I'm ready when you are!" she tells him as she'd decided to be sportsman like.

Gavin doesn't object to the scan, though he wonders how informative it'll be for their battle.

Where Melody is cheerful, Gavin radiates a quiet intensity that's thankfully disguised by the diving gear he wears. He offers a thumbs up when she affords him the first move. This wasn't the best match-up for Slowking, so he'd take whatever advantage was offered.

Waving its arms and seeming to mutter some sort of incantation, Slowking launches an EERIE SPELL toward its foe.

The eerie song manages to harm gastrodon via some mysterious power it uses and Gastrodon is NOT happy with what the galarian slowking said to him. Melody decided to let him let off some steam by commanding him with a quick counter attack. "Ancient power gastro!" as Gastrodon used some similar psychic energy to lift up several stones with fossils in them and fling them at galarian slowking. [break][break]

The move however didn't give gastrodon the boost melody was hoping for, it was rare anyways so she hadn't really planned on getting it anyhow she just wanted to keep the pressure on galarian slowking.

Gavin recognizes the utilization of some ancient power, though he's quietly grateful that it doesn't seem to have activated its added effect. This match-up was already not looking the best for him.

It only gets worse.

He clicks his tongue, instructing Slowking to utilize the SURF to its advantage. It's then that Gavin realises that Gastrodon has STORM DRAIN, the ability drawing in the attack and offering a small fraction of the power boost that ancient power had failed to grant.

Well, shit.

The violent torrents that were shot out towards Gastrodon soon became prey to it's storm drain ability, it absorbed the attack and used it to boost it's own power. That was a rookie mistake, was this guy a newbie trainer? Well regardless she was going to have no mercy, she couldnt have a bad battle record during this tournament or else what kind of gym leader would the others view her as?! [break][break]

Melody decided to return the favor in kind and gave her next orders. "Gastrodon! Earth power!" she calls out to her sea slug as the pokemon takes one of it's little nubs and slams it into the floor and creates a fissure below galarian slowking that creates a heat vent at him.

Skilled though he was in his own specialization, a lack of knowledge regarding Gastrodon comes back to bite him in the ass. He'd have known to watch out if he were faced against a Cradily, but this strange slug might as well have been an Ultra Beast for what he knew of it.

Regarding it more carefully, now, he gives his Slowking a signal. Stop, he signs.

It had thought to summon rain, perhaps in instinctive response to the painful heat of the earth's power, but redirects with his command.

ACID begins to seep into the waters, instead, corroding defenses.

The acid seeped into the waters surrounding Gastrodon and weakening it's body. Crap! That's right her pokedex mentioned that the galarian slowking had access to poison moves due to it's different typing. She had to dilute it quickly or else gastrodon would succumb to the poison's effects. However it was too late, the poison managed to weaken gastrodon's defenses but melody was quick and called out her next order to put a stop to it "Muddy water! Give yourself some cover!" she orders as the water around gastrodon began to thicken and turn brown.

The dirty water then shot out towards Slowking and aimed to get it in his eyes so he'd have a harder time seeing his target.

Mud clouds the water, partially obscuring Gastrodon and Melody from view.

Should he disable it? No, it was best to save such things in case of another super-effective move. Gavin's lips press tight.

He signals Slowking again.

Another EERIE SPELL flutters through the water, parting the muddied clouds as it seeks out its foe.

The eerie spell once again seemingly made Gastrodon reel back in pain as the psychic energy messed with it's mind. Melody however realized soemthing, this guy wasn't giving verbal commands to his pokemon. Melody smirked, in a normal battle she wouldn't be able to do something like this, but it was time to make use of the biome like Zac Ramsay taught her. [break][break]

"Gastrodon! Storm drain some water and full power muddy water!" she orders as gastrodon seemed to inflate for a second like a sponge before once again turning the water around it brown, but this time instead of condensing it into a stream to send towards slowking this time it rushes outwards from gastrodon trying to cloud the arena around them and blind not only the pokemon but tried to use the residual dirt to cut off the opponent's visual of the battle as well.

STORM DRAIN was an absolute pain in the ass.

As someone who'd spent most of his life avoiding the water where he could help it, its specific interactions and uses in underwater battling were limited. He'd used his Cradily's abilities to help with the breach in the submarine, but this—

Frustration grows as the water clouds over. Not only could his Pokemon not see its opponent, but it couldn't see him to be given commands.

It's equally frustrated, apparently, for it targets the MUDDY WATER with DISABLE.

Seems like her little plan worked to give gastrodon only a brief moment of relief from the galarian slowking's advance. This guy was no push over and Melody was being given a run for her money. She fully planned to take advantage of this brief moment of peace to call out her move as Slowking slowly weeded out the muddy water via disable. "Quickly! While he deals with it use recover gastrodon!" she orders as a slight green ball of energy encapsulates the area around gastrodon as some of the wounds from this battle slowly dissapeared from it's body. [break][break]

She did notice however that not ALL of it's wounds were gone, only a decent amount so there was still some lingering effects from Slowking and now one of her moves that let her control the tempo of the battle were gone as well. "Damn." she muttered to herself as she tried to think of a way out of this situation.

Of course it has fucking recover.

He's more exasperated than anything. This battle means little to him. He's only here to scout for Rocket, and there's almost no chance the gym leader they'd tried to assassinate would be joining their ranks any time soon.

Not willingly, anyway.

While the Gastrodon recovers from its injuries, the muddied waters clear enough for Gavin to signal to Slowking. It waves its stubby hands and casts another EERIE SPELL under his command.
