To bond with a pokemon, you must first understand its personality.

Childish, stubborn and most certainly not one to cooperate unless bribed, Mercury is an odd one when it comes to talking about the strange and mysterious. When its hungry, it turns into a pool of liquid metal. When it seeks attention, it melts further into a pool of liquid metal. When its tired, it's already a pool of liquid metal. Somehow, Mercury has become an entity that is way harder to read than Reiner's encyclopedia of blank resting faces.

Regardless, she will not be deterred by this. Instead, Eris figures that bonding goes the best when introducing a pokemon to a stimulus they might find interesting! From there, she can figure out a list of Mercury's likes and dislikes which will then become her guide to winning him over!

Gently patting Reiner's shoulder, Eris tightens the straps of her backpack and ensures she has all the necessary equipment for this adventure. Maybe Mercury will finally break out of its shell and befriend one or two pokemon along the way! Or beat them up... She hasn't quite figured out its temperament yet.

It's a curious one, she realises after minutes of observing the little blob. Though Mercury shows no interests in bribes of berries and snacks, it certainly does have an appetite for adventure, flailing its stubby arm in a random direction and urging her to move towards it with a squeak. Sparing Reiner a look of confusion, Eris shrugs at the thought, heading in the direction pointed out in hopes of seeing what shenanigans the Meltan is up to.

And it becomes clear rather soon after, the group being led into a quiet clearing as Mercury squirms free of her grasp, harmlessly bouncing on the ground and pushing itself back to its feet before waddling up to the bushes. It chirps rather excitedly, hopping and waving its arms around as if trying to summon something. Before Eris can decipher what this all means, the head of a Dratini pokes out of the bushes, drawn in by the Meltan little performance as she begins to dance with him.

Was this some sort of... friendship ritual? Eris had seen Mercury doing the same actions when meeting its teammates for the first time, so perhaps she was onto something! Stepping closer to the duo, she kneels down before them, giving a little squiggle of her own when the Meltan and Dratini turn to look at her and receiving gleeful squiggles in return.

Behind them all, Reiner watches with a hint of dread and uncertainty. What kind of communication is he bearing witness to? What meaning does any of their actions carry?

He fears, for he does not know.

Minutes after a strange friendship dance, Eris finds herself marching in the next direction that Mercury points towards atop her head, a Dratini comfortably curled around her neck as her Luxray quietly follows behind. Had it not been for the fact that Reiner understood her intentions of bonding with the strange Meltan, he would have presumed her possessed and dragged her back to whichever responsible adult that came to mind.

"So what's next? Who's gonna hop out of those bushes?"
[break][break]
With an abrupt halt, Eris turns to point at the foliage behind them, waiting for the slightest bit of response as if something were truly hiding there. But perhaps, her gut instincts are a little off, leaves merely floating through the clearing as the winds answer her calls. Mercury chirps with an unnatural rhythm, perhaps shaking with laughter at the foolishness as it topples over on her head.

"I'm trying to read what you mean here! At least give me hints!"

Another moment passes in sheer humiliation, the young trainer trying her best not to pout as she points at yet another bush.

"Come on out! You're not as sneaky as you think you are!"
[break][break]
And yet, some things are really better left untouched. Before she even processes it, she's falling to the ground, yanked back with a ferocious growl as rocks fly overhead and electricity scorches the air. The scent of ozone stings with every breath, a Spark lighting up the greenery as Reiner dives straight into the bushes. Seconds after, a Clobbopus is thrown up into the air, her eyes widening as she watches the strange flight. Fumbling through her pockets, Eris eventually grabs hold of a pokeball, taking her aim and tossing it towards the pokemon.

She doesn't necessarily do well with close encounters but Eris can say that she most likely deals with it better than most around her age. As soon as the threat subsides, so does the adrenaline and the trembling sensation that grapples her body. Holding tight to the pokeball, she makes sure to tuck it deep into her backpack lest she accidentally release the Clobbopus and its rage.

But their adventures aren't over just yet! As Mercury finds itself entranced once more and waving wildly in another direction, the group begins to move on forward. Every so often, the Dratini hums and flicks her tail, providing the Meltan with what seems to be new insights as it alters their direction with a chirp. Along the way, she spies a flock of Inkays floating nearby, squeaking at their presence and encircling them.

In her own curiosity, Eris reaches out to touch one of them, earning herself a slight giggle from the tiny squid. And it's a rather strange but magical moment, creatures of different origins interacting with one another as Eris watches her pokemon join in the chorus. Eventually, it all ends with a final note from the leader of the Inkays, the young female curtseying as she leads her group off into the wild once more.

Perhaps, they'll see each other again in another place, another day.

It's big, it's round and it's remarkably purple. For once in her life, Eris finds herself - as soon may say - shook by the Wailmer that floats before her. Its presence adds a certain Pressure that she doesn't quite expect, her grip on her pokeballs almost slipping the more she looks at the creature.

Its attention soon drifts over her and her companions, its grin widening as it begins to gurgle water in its mouth. All it takes is a whistle to convey her thoughts, Mercury giving off a Thunder Wave as Reiner leads a Wild Charge at the imminent threat. The Dratini on the other hand seems a little confused, but Eris knows it'll only be a while before she's able to keep up with the strange communication.

With the Wailmer seemingly Paralysed, she tosses her pokeball and prays to the passing winds.

They did it! As the shiny Wailmer disappears in a ray of light, Eris is more than happy to pocket the prize, giving Mercury a high five and pulling Reiner in for a hug. The Dratini doesn't get to miss out on the cheer either, earning herself a good headpat before they carry on with their adventure.

Past the clearing, she swears she can see beady eyes staring, watching them from the shadows as they skitter about. Perhaps, it's a school of Wimpod looking for scraps? Regardless, Mercury seems to be invested in guiding them to their next location, so there's definitely no time to waste on hunting down the elusive buggers!

As they pass by a river, Mercury is chirping loudly, flailing at the water's edge as it coos at something she can't see. Once it points at the stream, it seems to mimic some sort of whistle, wiggling at the Dratini and getting himself a nod in return.

Before Eris can even understand what they're up to, the Dratini wiggles off her shoulders and slips into the water, disappearing under the crystal surface. It bubbles and begins to churn, and in a kaleidoscopic splash, a Twister reaches towards the sky, sweeping up a school of Wishiwashi in its merciless swirl.

With an excited squeal, Mercury reaches into Eris' backpack and lobs a pokeball into the fray. It's orchestrated this and it will take the honour of doing the capture!
