[attr="class","textbox"] Fridays were great, especially since he was out for summer break. He'd promised his Dad that he would start thinking more seriously about a major change — and he totally was! — but he deserved a break for all the hard-work he was doing!

[break][break] For the week, at least, he was lodging with a friend in the area in preparation for all the Hoenn Tournament activities. Not that Leo planned to take part in it — nope, he wasn't much of a trainer, even though he was sure Peanut Butter would've enjoyed the exercise.

[break][break] Still, it was fun to see all the fesitivites take off, and it was even more fun to see all the different trinkets and sales that were happening as a result of it. Slateport was always a popular destination, but even moreso with the summer fun.

[break][break] Speaking of summer, today was hot. The sun blazed above in the park, and even Leo found himself discarding his shirt as he dowsed a nearby Slowbro who looked quite dehydrated. In his hand, he held a hose — set up for him alongside the other volunteers and event organizers — and atop his head, his Pinchurin offered support through use of it's BUBBLE BEAM attack.

[break][break] There was a sudden bark from Yams, and Leo turned just to see the familiar tuft of elijah gardner 's hair. "Eli!" the bespectacled boy burst out eagerly, turning without thought — accidently turning his hose directly into the poor man's front.

it's muggy. sweltering. scathing, almost. the wind lashes out against skin like magmatic whips— but elijah enjoys the heat. with the sun out, everything flourishes to reach new heights.

it's days like these when elijah is thankful he lives in hoenn.

elijah sets down a planter of flowers on a nearby wood table. beach sands are caught within their planks, whisked there by the beach breezes.

a bark alerts him. the sound, although animal, is familiar and as he turns and expects to see spectacles, he's met with hose water instead. the water drenches his entirety of his summery getup. bright colours darken against his muscle as droplets fall from his wet hair and face in wasteful dives.

"leo." elijah grunts. almost wordlessly, he picks up a green hose from the floor.

aiming the nozzle at leo— but as far away from yams as possible, he pulls the trigger with no remorse.

[break][break] Though, he could probably use that excuse for a lot of things in his life. Leo didn't mean to do a lot of things. He didn't mean to climb that really tall tree when he was 6 and break his ankle. He didn't mean to try cooking for the first time with @foster and accidentally - almost - purposefully? - almost burn down her kiddy kitchen. And he certainly didn't mean to fall from an outstanding height and find himself in Chu-e Choi 's lap several months ago.

[break][break] Many things Leo did he didn't mean to do — things didn't happen to Leo, Leo happened to them.

[break][break] And this was such a case as the brunette found himself spraying his favorite person elijah gardner in the face. With a hose. Full of really, really cold water. His eyes were wide behind their glasses almost as soon as he turned to greet him — it was like one of those times when you see your death flashing before your eyes, except your death was instead the expression of a blank, nearly deadpan green-haired beanstalk as he was hosed down - unintentionally!! - with water.

[break][break] Oh, maybe real death would have been sweeter.

[break][break] "I'm sorry! Elijah, I didn't mean to, I swear — " he immediately started to babble, hands thrown up in surrender, expecting the other to launch into an hour-long lecture when — "— ACK!"

[break][break] The nozzle sprays directly into — not just Leo, not just his person — but into the poor boy's mouth. He's knocked back onto the soft grass immediately, crashing into a bunch of buckets and other supplies that were behind him. Hand to his face, Leo wipes the water from his face with a gasp.

[break][break] "You almost killed me —"

[break][break] Even through his blurry, bespectacled gaze, Leo could see. Most people who looked wouldn't be able to notice it — Elijah looked like his normal, unfunny self — but Leo saw it.

[break][break] He pointed an accusing finger at him.

[break][break] "You're happy about that, aren't you?!"

the ensuing orchestration of chaos is also not intended. funny, though. elijah thanks whatever god has graced him with this slip of schadenfreude before realizing he's smiling.

"sort of." elijah feels the cold droplets dangle off his nose. his chin. "i bet yams found it entertaining too."

he redirects leo's finger with his own, pointing at the dog. whether the yamper really felt that way or not didn't matter. elijah has the higher ground.

"we're even. 'sides, it's hot as fuck. you should be thanking me." elijah says, plucking at his drenched shirt. the fabric clings in streams across his skin. he plays with a button.

[attr="class","textbox"] As he's pointed at, Yams lets out a heart bark, leaping up to the tall, scarred man. The pokemon wags it's tail in greeting and presses it's cold nose against Elijah's ankle, asking for some pets. Whether elijah gardner obliges him or not, however, is a different story.

[break][break] Leo, for his part, huffs out a laugh. It's hard not to — Eli is hardly in a friendly mood, and certainly this counts as one.

[break][break] However, instead of pushing himself to his feet, he grabs the hose next to him and then pulls the trigger. The water explodes out of the hose, aiming towards the other as he plays with a button on his shirt.

[break][break] "Thanks."

[break][break] Then he's quick to jump to his feet, running away before Elijah can blast him with a hose on his own.

after a moment's hesitation, elijah's hand drops like a hook. he strokes yams' fur with the paddling of two fingers. inevitably, a drop or two of water falls and dampens the dog's head.

"you gotta be kidd—" elijah raises his own hose, but drops it quick with a clatter. "come back here!"

he pursues leo, letting his shirt hang open as a drowned flag.

"why are you running?! get back here you coward!" his fingers are tempted by the pokeball containing his frogadier— but he refrains, for now.

[attr="class","textbox"] Laughter rings in the air as Leo jumps away, like a dog with a treat. For all of the sourness that could sometimes be found in Elijah's expression, the brunette is almost the opposite — he is the sun to the other's moon, his grin bright in the shining light of the day.

[break][break] "Bet you can't catch me!" He sticks his tongue out at his friend, blowing a raspberry at him.

[break][break] elijah gardner might have called it immature, Leo called it fun.

[break][break] Yams seems to get into the activity too, leaping after the gardener and barking alongside him. Encouraging him. He can catch Leo! He knows it.

as if the hose was his anime weight, elijah breaks into a liberating sprint. although he is not the fastest man in hoenn, it is the sheer ferocity of his mad dash that is impressive. his form is aggressive. his glare? aerodynamic.

"get back here you fuckin' brat!" elijah barks alongside the yamper.

galvanized by such sparkling support, elijah makes incredible ground. and as he encroaches upon leo's heels, he reaches out—

and grabs the collar of the other's shirt to haul back to hell.

[attr="class","textbox"] Traitor! Leo thinks briefly, and might have sent a scalding glare at Yams, had he had the time for it. But Elijah was fast — too fast. He couldn't risk it!

[break][break] His friend screams after him in pretend-rage (or at least, what Leo interprets as pretend-rage). He even uses his affectionate nickname for him.

[break][break] For all the times his long legs have been cumbersome for him, making him gangly and awkward in all the ways that made him a perfect target for middle school bullies, this time it's to his advantage. He runs across the yard, jumping over puddles and hoses, darting around the other - probably much more helpful - volunteers.

[break][break] For a moment, he feels a surge of confidence. He's going to win!

[break][break] ... Or not.

[break][break] Leo lets out an unexpected sound of surprise, his shout garbled, as Elijah grabs his shirt-collar. Nearly choking him.

[break][break] However, instead of being affronted at this near-death scenario, Leo finds himself leaning against his friend, head tipping back and looking up at Elijah, grinning back up at him. He giggles. "... Oops?"

the embarrassment leo reveals endears him to elijah some— but the man can't betray his obstinate nature. and so, he scowls. brows hook into each other. a frown communicates his displeasure— but within that claustrophobic moment of concentration, elijah does not hear the pitter-patter of yamper paws.

yams blindly dashes into the soft curve behind elijah's knees. the impact is accompanied by excited sparks and the electricity of surprise. as elijah buckles, his hands lunge by instinct, seeking support or anything to hold on to.

but he can only find himself grabbing on to leo as he falls. they land with a hard clunk with elijah smothering the other in cliched fashion.

"hey! you stupid yamper!" elijah barks at yams. grumbling, he swings his head back to leo. "you okay?'

There's a reason that electric types like Yamper are the only ones that the bespectacled brunette tends to keep on his possession. They are speedy — the only pokemon that can usually keep up with Leo and his unexpecting nature.

[break][break] And in situations like this, they sometimes surprise him too.

[break][break] Amber eyes are wide beneath his glasses as elijah gardner topples like a leaning tower of pizza (that's what that was, right?) above him. The heavy weight of his good friend topples onto of him, and Leo lets out a grunt of surprise, that turns into a sudden wince.

[break][break] Pain suddenly strikes him in his leg — no, his ankle. "Um.. I think I twisted something?"
