there were a lot of eevee match requests on the lobby since it's like a very niche, but popular, fandom within the enthusiasts. most matches were almost always colorful, with a lot of variations and similarities between each side. the oxymoron makes such fights interesting to watch.

it also shows which people favor which eeveelution, which was what kyle was after.

unfortunately, he doesn't have favorites, unless it's whichever was more useful in a given situation. the ones he chose for the occasion weren't even his favorite colors, but they proven themselves before and that kind of value sticks brings them up the ladder with how kyle likes them.

he faces the other eevee trainer. kyle starts wondering which eevee matchups would be advantageous for him, but he realizes thinking about it wouldn't matter anyways since he already locked in his choices.

It was not the first of Jayden's matches, nor was it the last. The sun beat unbearably overhead, but at least by this point in the day, Flynn was more than used to it. Still, he couldn't help but stare enviously at Iris as the Vaporeon bounded forward, her paws making watery-foot prints in the sand.

[break][break] 'Welcome to the next match, fellas! Oh my, how lucky! The resident Champion is facing off in an Eevee match-up right now on the south shore!'

[break][break] Jayden blinked.

[break][break] For some reason, this felt like an odd-sense of deja-vu. Except, instead of Melody Miro standing on the opposite side of a volley ball net, it was a handsome brunette with two gorgeous eevee evolutions standing by his side.

[break][break] The Champion? Jayden feels like he read an article about him before, maybe in the late tresses of his 2AM or 3AM scavanges through the web.

[break][break] Instead of voicing this, Jayden merely raises a hand. "Hi," he says, with a small wave. "Mischa. Lada. Iris." He points to each of them in question.

[break][break] For his pokemon's part, they seem far more excited as they take their position in the center of the arena, the Umbreon standing side-by-side with the Vaporeon. Lada's rings glow gold with MOONLIGHT as she prepares for the battle. Similarly, water pools at Iris' ankles as she uses AQUA RING.

"hey," he greets back when his opponent said hi. it just seemed like the courteous thing to do.

alongside the trainer, he is met with two eevees that directly counters his. the audacity! kyle decides to give it his best for this time to make up for the disadvantage.

he shows their healing moves despite their offensive advantages. kyle gets an idea of how things will play out.

"espeon, skill swap. vaporeon. flareon, smog."

kyle chooses the defensive option as well. the flareon sets up a smokescreen that hides visuals within the battlefield with a poisonous smoke that blows towards the opponent's side of the field. in the meanwhile, a certain glow on the vaporeon indicates that its ability has been changed.

scuttering of little paws can be heard behind the curtain of smog.

[break][break] as smog emits from the other eeveelution, jayden clicks his tongue. "iris." their opponents are not the only ones who know how to maneuver their surroundings to their advantage.

[break][break] acid armor melts her body into pure liquid which than evaporates with the poisonous smoke, making it a perfect rebuttal. unfortunately, her partner has no similar way of fighting the poison. she coughs with a wince as the smog infects her, effectively poisoning her. despite that, lada refuses to give up.

[break][break] the umbreon darts through the smoke, aiming a feint attack at the espeon. she darts left, then right, hoping to catch the other pokemon off guard.

another skill swap happens from behind the cover of the smog, this time, between the flareon and the espeon. in the midst of the exchange of abilities, the umbreon swoops in and knocks the espeon away, the impact clearing the smoke as well.

"retaliate!"

the flareon, who was the only one that can respond to the attack, quickly takes up arms to exact vengeance for her eevee brethren.

the fire-type's entire body erupts in flames, covering its fur with it in a moment's notice, before making a reckless charge at the umbreon. the smell of the flare blitz reacting with the smog was leave a lot to be desired.

there's no way for jayden or his team to know about what takes place behind the cover of the smoke — at least, not until the beginnings of flames lick at the edge of the smokescreen. the bright light of the flare blitz gleams out from the dark, the fire sucking up the remains of the smoke to clear the smog. but it's too late.

[break][break] lada gives a yelp of pain as she's hit sideways by the fire-attack, pain swelling in her side. it isn't a burn but it hurts just as well as one.

[break][break] the other effect of the disappear smog, however, is that it causes isis to reveal herself. except, the vaporeon is ready for it. she is riding on the edge of a muddy water, directed towards the flareon, completely unaware of the skill swap that occurred seconds before.

water crashes to both the espeon and the flareon, though it's only the psychic-type that gets overwhelmed with the move. the flareon stands proud, seemingly more refreshed even after the recoil of its previous move.

seeing its display of a healing move, kyle decides to double down on the umbreon.

"dazzling gleam. superpower. umbreon."

the espeon, as it struggles to get up after being downed by the tidal wave, breaks through and shines a mystifying light on both eevees on the opponent's side of the field that burns with touch.

after the vaporeon crashes down on them, the flareon swiftly moves out of the water-type's way and rushes straight to the dark-type once again. a heavy slam with a tackle shows the pokemon's immense strength as it rushes it down after the dazzling gleam.

water splashes down onto the two eevee-evolutions. the surge of sea against earth, liquid seeping into the sand like flowers thirsting for rainwater. however, while the espeon certainly seems to suffer from the attack, the flareon seems the very opposite. the picture of health, almost, as the sun's light beams down onto it, it's fur sparkling in the summer heat.

[break][break] jayden's gaze narrows.

[break][break] before he can say more on it, the two opponents are on the move. they chase after lada with a combination of dazzling gleam and super power. however, isis is not one to go down with a fight. icy cold separates from her maw in the shape of a blue beam, smashing into the dazzling gleam and holding it at length as she jumps in front of her comrade.

[break][break] it's only when the flareon smashes into side with super-power that she loses her footing. however, lada is quick to retaliate. she chases after the flareon with pursuit, her rings glowing faintly with the power of a previously used moonlight to heal her.

"bite. vaporeon. dazzling gleam."

the idea was as simple as divide and conquer. they're on the offensive and kyle plans to pressing on until they get the position that they want in this match.

the flareon quickly shifts its attention from the umbreon to the vaporeon when the dark-type knocks her with its pursuit. the flareon attempts to yank the vaporeon out of the way by its tail with a bite, flinging it away from the umbreon.

the espeon waits for its opening for the vaporeon to be out of the way to get its dazzling gleam up again, flashing debilitating light at the umbreon.

before she knows it, fangs dig deep into her tail and yank her away. the water-type can't help but let out a yelp of pain. "acid armor!" jayden orders, but it's too late. the pain is too great, and the vaporeon slumps to the ground not long after.

[break][break] lada takes the defensive, hackles raised, as there is a dazzling gleam aimed in her direction. she just barely misses the edge of the attack, paws burning, before her eyes glow with the power of confuse ray.

without magic bounce, the confusion settles in the espeon. the light it emitted wasn't the only one that was effective in the fight as the confuse ray does its job well.

"looks like you just have to go on the offensive, flareon."

while the espeon was wandering around in a daze after a fit of confusion, the flareon charges up to the umbreon.

its legs start to pace faster and faster with every step it took before it makes a quick attack at the dark-type eevee. fluffy fur would clash against the umbreon's frame if things go as intended.

lada is a skilled battler, so she's more than capable of dodging the attack that suddenly comes her way. her paws itch, muscles flexing in preparation — "lada, don't." a low whistle underbreath signals the umbreon to stay put. a different pokemon might have questioned jayden's call — however, the umbreon knew better.

[break][break] as the flareon comes rushing forward, fluffy fur blurring with the speed that it pulsed across the earth, lada braces herself. she winces herself at the pressure, the pain that sparks from the contact. "now, attack!!" eyes bright, she grits her teeth and uses assurance to get her revenge on the fire-type.

the espeon tries to set up its reflect screen, but it just ended up walking into it in its confusion. the flareon still was the only one that's going to need to do the lifting.

the flareon gets knocked to the side by the umbreon's attack, enraging it. it covers itself and throws itself in a flare blitz towards the umbreon, which earns the fire-type a pinch on the bridge from kyle.

recoil would get the better of it sooner or later as it wobbles on its legs after it performs the move.

the flare blitz hurts her head-on, flames flickering against the smooth blackness of her coat. rings of yellow light are set aglow as her moonlight attack from earlier heals her some, but the burns both injure and restrict her movement.

the flareon falls from the move, but the espeon manages to get its bearings back behind the barrier it had set up earlier.

from the protection of the screen, the espeon fires off a dazzling gleam at the umbreon. its light is similar to the moonlight that the dark-type glows with the umbreon, albeit his espeon's light hurts more than it helps.
