the sun stretches, early morning reaching into mid morning. it's rays sit at a good angle, long shadows dance as pokemon fight.

it seems shes stumbled into something she hadn't intended, but she's mesmerized by it. what is this? everyone is battling?

a nidoqueen's hyper beam tries to break through cloyster's hardened shell. her eyes light with the brilliance of crackling energy.

snap!

her head turns to the cloyster, her hair a whip crack behind her. it's on the ground now. and bits of shell look right at home on a sandy beach.

she hasn't battled before.

at least she doesn't think so.

she feels ready.

she turns to her own opponent.

As the sun dipped farther and father into the sky, the tournament go-ers got into the thick of things. Splashes of water soared through the sky as a Blastoise used a Hydro Pump on a nearby Pikachu, which rebutted with a Headbutt attack. Jayden, for his part, found himself walking over to his next match — which, unfortunately, involved walking through the property and its beach-goers, including the tournament participants.

[break][break] Crack. There was a sound, deep and sudden, that had Jayden turning his head. Just in time, too. The Nidoqueen's Hyper Beam cracked the skull of that poor Cloyster, and a shell had gone flying, nearly enough to cut under Jayden's eye.

[break][break] Good thing he caught it in time. He blinked.

[break][break] Turning his head, he realized that his opponent was on the other side of the arena. Also watching. Interesting, she was an observer too?

[break][break] "Mischa Volkov," he said, the alias coming to his lips easily, after all these years of practicing it. A person who knew Wyndon Cross Pharmaceuticals would recognize it. Anyone else, likely, would not even bat an eye. "Nice to meet you," he says politely, reaching into his pocket to release his pokemon into the air before him, the Weavile's form materializing into view.

Does Cleffa know where she is?

She's stood still in the arena. Eyes an unfocused black, her blush painted rosy on her cheeks. She's a stuffed animal, head filled with cotton. She looks like one too, her tiny smile perma-stitched on her face. She laughs, Nanette can tell. A sprinkle of color descends upon a tense mood.

Nanette laughs too.

What's so funny?

"If you would be so kind as to use Charm."

Her voice is the cherry on top. A bite of sweetness before you dive in.

Cleffa turns to her opponent, several times her size, and dances. It's ingrained in her nature as apart of the Clefairy evolution chain. The tiny thing moon walks, singing a song all little pink fae know.

She laughs. He blinks.

[break][break] Jayden tilts his head slightly, considering. There are often times in his life when he has simply missed it — the butt of a joke, the sarcasm in one's tone. It is not an uncommon occurrence, not for someone like him. He wonders, briefly, if it is one of those moments.

[break][break] It doesn't seem so.

[break][break] Regardless, the battle commences. Vila's nails are sharp as she sliced them against each other, the silver of them gleaming bright in the sunlight as the small moon thing approaches. For a moment, the Weavile is distracted, taken in by the sight of the pokemon's Charm. Or perhaps, Vila was simply considering her options.

[break][break] She leans forward and eyes narrowed into slits, stares directly at the Clefable. Then, right in it's face, she absolutely screams.

Perhaps they should take this more seriously, but Cleffa just stares at her opponent. Clawed, threatening, three times her size, terrifying cry piercing ear drums. And all she can do is stare. The comedy continues onward. It's an incredulous look, perpetual smile turning into a frown. Like, why is this happening?

"Copycat."

Almost involuntarily, Cleffa lets out the exact cry. Drowning out that of her opponent.

Nanette's laughter is overshadowed by the yelling pokemon.

Vila has never had anyone scream back at her before. Not like that. It stuns her, nearly making her flinch, before she decides there is nothing else she can do but SCREECH back.
