[break][break] It's fucked up, if Theo knew what he was asking. And maybe, considering Rocket, considering who THEO BECKETT he did and that was exactly why he said it. Either way, the torrent of emotions that runs through Flynn's face is unsettling — good, fucking hilarious. What would his mom think of him now? Dabbling in organized crime? Tied to the very thing that she worked so hard to avoid?

[break][break] "... Yeah." When Flynn speaks, his voice is rough. Raw. Hurt, pain, grief all threatening to spring to the surface.

[break][break] That's why Flynn is glad for the distracting, when he pulls the Binacle from the water. The boat shifts as Theo leans closer to explain to him, the fabric of Theo's shirt pressing against the bare skin of Flynn's shoulder.

[break][break] Maybe it's because of what Theo said before, springing up forgotten memories, buried deep beneath the surface. As Theo leans into him, something squeezes in his chest. "Working together," Flynn repeats, brows pinched together. He barks a laugh. "Like a fucking group project, huh?"

[break][break] Admittingly, it's pretty hilarious.

[break][break] Theo's own line tugs, and Flynn finds his gaze drawn to it too, well, that is until it's captured in a pokeball. He only has a brief glance at the floating fish before it disappears in a flash of light. The boys are distracted — well, Flynn is, so much so that he doesn't notice the shuffling of noise behind him until it's too late.

[break][break] "Hey!" Sure enough, a Mudkip had wandered onto the boat, sticking it's face deep in the trash that they'd set aside. Grabbing him around the torso, Flynn pulls the aforementioned criminal up and watches as it's cute face is stuffed full.

[break][break] "Kip. Mudkip kip." The water type says, eyes wide eyed and innocent, peanut shells spilling from his mouth and onto THEO BECKETT 's lap.

he reaches back for what little remains of his sandwich. tearing a chunk off, he extends it over to the water-type and watches it swallow it in one, not even chewing.

"fine."

after taking one final bite for himself, he extends what's left of the sandwich over, depositing it into mudkip's mouth.

Theo's expression brightens in a way that is uncommon — or at least, Flynn thinks so. The two aren't particularly close, not the same way that he was close to other Rocket members, but from all the times he's seen the man, his face was nothing like now - soft, bright, full of something special.

[break][break] Flynn watches as the Rocket admin feeds the Mudkip by hand, who eagerly gobbles up the pieces. Even Flynn - notoriously grumpy, irritable Flynn - can't help but find himself smiling too.

[break][break] It reminds him of Noah — and unlike all the other memories, this one isn't painful.

[break][break] Flynn lets out a laugh. "Guess I'm going to have to make extra sandwiches for you."

[break][break] Meanwhile, faraway from the boat, Niles and Glacier are still swimming in the deep. A wild Corphish sits on a rock, sunbathing, up until a stray ICE BEAM from the latter accidentally knocks it off it's perch. Moments later, both pokemon are pushing the ice block towards Flynn and his new friend, almost guiltily.

[break][break] Flynn glances down at them, away from Theo, and then sighs. He presses a pokeball to the imprisoned pokemon. They'd have to thaw it out later.

click, click.

the ghost-type's eyes pulse in a HYPNOSIS as it hovers forward, locking eyes with the drednaw. it slows to a halt, and with a throw of a pokeball, it falls captured.

"we should go fishing sometimes, kid."
