River wasn't even participating in the actual circuit. The act of battling for the sake of bragging rights, while normally right up his alley, was something he definitely wasn't good at. And what was the point in doing something you weren't good at?[break][break]

But beating up on a car for the sake of blowing off steam, now that was something he could handle. Something he enjoyed, actually. Except this time, he wasn't trashing random cars in a back alley for the sake of stealing shit or getting back at somebody who'd pissed him off. These were specially-ordered dumpster cars set up specifically to take some heat.[break][break]

[break][break] It was not a sight that happened often, but it happened on occasion. To a passerby, however, it would not look like anything. It would only be for someone who knew him well, the subtle twitch of his brow. The tension in his shoulders. The silence that was not nonchalance, but barely contained annoyance.

[break][break] As a person who had been a part of Team Rocket for many, many years, there were very few things that could set Jayden off in any way, and it was something he generally took pride in. After all, letting your anger get the better of you was childish and more important than that, it was unprofessional. Jayden, as far as his duties as a Rocket member went, were none of these things.

[break][break] It was a shame that his partner in this particular mission was such an ass.

[break][break] "I'm older than you, you know," he said idly, letting out a sigh, before he reached for his belt. While River had been doing things in such an uncouth way, just exploding things without even doing so much as to observe their surroundings, Jayden was careful - just like he always was. Careful, calculating, sure.

[break][break] A flick of his wrist, and two of his pokemon materialized into view. The form of his Chandelure and Eelektrik materialized into view and the twenty-four year old uttered a single syllable:

Honestly, it really didn't matter one way or the other if River could see that he'd annoyed the guy or not. Because even if Jayden wore his feelings on his sleeve, River wouldn't have given a shit. The boy existed merely to the detriment of literally anyone else, and that was that.[break][break]

When the battery explodes, River's Raichu cackles and flexes, tiny arms straining to show off what muscle definition a mouse was capable of having. And the Pokemon's laughter is borderline maniacal, like a mad scientist at work who had just discovered the secret to life itself: explosions.[break][break]

Electricity sizzles out from the exploded battery, as well as acid and Arceus knows what else. It smells absolutely foul, but the crowd cheers while the time counts down. Clearly, the damage they were doing was.. enough, or something.[break][break]

"Just how much damage do we need to do to this sucker?"[break][break]

He speaks at the same time Jayden interjects to state that he's older. Not that River cared, again, because he's an asshole.[break][break]

"Hey, woah! The fuck are you doin', man?! You're supposed to damage the car, not the whole arena, bro. You tryin' to get us killed?"[break][break]

He hits the ground as his partner's Pokemon blow up the interior. Windows smash and act like projectiles, and River covers his neck, heart pounding.[break][break]

Predictably, his partner ignores his comment about age. Jayden had met many Rockets in his lifetime in the organization, and maybe who were exactly like River Marx — whether it be because of choice, or because of a lack of proper training, there wasn't an adequate level of respect when it came to age or rank among them.

[break][break] "You tryin' to get us killed?"

[break][break] Jayden's gaze slides over to him, blank. "It's not my fault if you die," he explains simply.

[break][break] And with that, an explosion sounds as Lampe's INFERNO spirals forth and comes into contact with the vehicle in question. Debris and dirt fly through the air as the car erups into flame, but before the flames can cause any real damage to the surrounding area, Aurelus' ROCK TOMB cracks the ground open. Slabs of rock erupt up and take the brunt of the damage, before sliding back into the ground. The car rocks to and fro — windows shattered, edges burnt.

[break][break] Smoke circles around in the air around him and Jayden brushes debris and glass out of his face, a cut right under his cheek. He glances at his partner. "Do you need help getting up?"

River gasps, feigning horror as his splayed fingers spread out across his chest. The motion is followed by a sassy downward tuck of his chin, mouth agape, eyes wide. He holds it a moment longer than necessary simply to be extra dramatic and pray that Jayden looked back at him. [break][break]

This was only after, of course, he rolled onto his back and sat up. He was not yet standing, and when Jayden asks if he needs a hand, River is not shy to hold out his own expectantly.[break][break]

River wiggles his fingers, waiting to be picked up.[break][break]

[break][break] If Jayden was the type to care, he would be also the type to get mad at his partner's inability to remain serious at what was clearly an important task. All missions were important tasks. That was simply how it worked.

[break][break] However, Jayden was not the type to care. He did not get mad. That was just not how it worked.

[break][break] And yet, despite it all, there is was. That smug smile flashing back at him, the fingers wiggling in his direction. He simply sighs in a response, grasping the other with one hand and then pulling him up by the shoulder with the other, burdening the weight so that River Marx can stand back on his feet.

[break][break] Meanwhile his pokemon are content to finish the job without him. Aurelus uses CRUSH CLAW to slam against metal parts, as Lampe lights them aflame once more with INFERNO.

Remaining serious was just not something that River was capable of. He was an aloof, stupid, crass, and stubborn young man given the shit stick more times than not. He took what he could get, dished out as good as he got, and didn't take shit from anyone- mostly.[break][break]

And it is because of that that River doesn't hold himself back. He doesn't retreat into his shell or show that he's uncomfortable. He is blatant, he is rude, he is one hundred percent genuine- mostly. [break][break]

The man continues to wiggle his fingers expectantly, impatiently waiting for Jayden to come over and pull him to his feet. In fact, he puts in almost zero effort to assist the situation, allowing the equally scrawn-looking boy to use his full strength to pull him to his feet.

It definitely wasn't just a test to see how strong he was for the sex appeal meter. He definitely wasn't that vain.[break][break]

In combination with the infernos and crush claws, River's Raichu continues to bring down the thunder. Years and years of training under both Rocket's thumb, as well as his father's own brutal regimen, were perfect proof of that.

[break][break] Flames spiral through the air as the pokemon continue beating up the car, rocking it back and forth under the pressure of their weight. Jayden only gives River Marx a long side-glance for his words, but otherwise nothing else.

[break][break] Still, something akin to annoyance prickles under the boy's skin, but he is determined to ignore it. They are on a mission. This is serious. Yes, despite that, the words that come out of his mouth are clipped: "I only speak when necessary."

River wraps his fingers around the man's hand, offering little to no assistance in pulling himself to his feet. Frankly, he'd been hoping Jayden might fall on top of him. Intimacy and all that, and could you imagine what Jayden looked like all flushed and embarrassed?[break][break]
