Consumed in her reading, Eva doesn’t notice the pink Dratini hovering over her shoulder, pretending to read along with a furrowed brow of confusion. It isn’t until the dragon shifts, snapping a twig beneath her that the doctor suddenly gasps. Eva spins around to see a surprised, wide-eyed Dratini staring back at her, “Oh, hello,” she smiled, turning to more comfortably face the nervous pokemon, “Were you reading too?” the papers shift in her hand, indicating she is speaking about them.

Dratini’s wide, black eyes flashed between the papers and Eva, giving a nod of understanding. Eva doubts the Dratini understands anything the words mean, but she’s happy to share her reading with the pokemon, “Alright, come on, we’ll read together,” Eva settled back in to her spot and resumes reading. The Dratini’s neck cranes over her shoulders, casting a shadow on the pages. The Dratini seems curious, the perfect pokemon for a lifelong learner like Eva. The doctor extracts an empty Safari Ball and gently taps it to the pokemon.

It’s not long after the Dratini is captured and tucked away, that a Eva notices a strange movement from near the pond’s shore. Being the curious doctor she is, the blond investigates with her Roserade.

The mud seems to be . . . moving? More like breathing with its rhythmic, slow, up-and-down movements. Mud shouldn’t do that. Simply out of curiosity, the doctor gently pokes the toe of her hiking boot into the mud. It meets a hard object, that immediately screeches and explodes from its hiding place. Droplets of mud fly everywhere, splattering the professor’s blonde hair with brown dots. The Roserade also squeaks, instinctively shooting forward a MAGICLA LEAF.

The Shiny Wimpod whines in resistance to the powerful attack and falls unconscious against the mud. Oops.

Eva extracts an empty Safari Ball and attempts to catch the pokemon.

Eva tucks the Wimpod away, glancing down at the still startled Roserade. She smiles gently, bending down to pat the grass-type’s soft flowers, “It’s alright, buddy, no worries, we’ll fix him up,” Kamal nods, sighing deeply.

A sudden splash of water makes Eva jump and turn her attention to the pool. A pink Wailmer comes rocketing out of the water with a BOUNCE. It seems dead set on crushing them, likely due to the fact that they just attacked his buddy.

Eva shoves Kamal to the side and leaps away, letting the Wailmer crash down onto the muddy bank. The large mammal struggles, flapping it’s small pectoral fins frantically. Eva sighs, flipping over in the mud before extracting another pokeball to toss at the Shiny Wailmer.

With one Safari Ball left, and the sun fading in on the horizon, she’s bound to be leaving empty handed. Or, at least, that’s what she thought before a small, gently ripple in the water caught her attention. A lone Wishiwashi looked up at her with pleading eyes, “Aww hey there, lil buddy! Are you all alone?” emerald eyes scanned the pond, no signs of life. She wonders if the other trainers had cleared out the rest of them. Being schooling pokemon, it is quite stressfull for a little fish like this to be by itself, “Don’t worry, I’ll give you a good home,” she smiles, dropping her last safari ball onto the pokemon.
