[attr="class","textbox"] Racing across the beach was a tiny dinosaur, making small imprints in the sand.

[break][break] Her owner jogged after her, wearing the very same noah faber chibi-printed shorts that he'd worn in his previous matches, except this time he also had other official-unofficial H✩T gear sold at the booths. On his right wrist, he wore three different color wrist-bands, meant to represent that of Stormy Silph , kyle lopez and Laurence Anderson with their equivalent colors. That was to say, of course, bright red, yellow and blue. The primary color trio - unintentional, of course.

[break][break] Jayden was definitely not one for fashion, but because he had not yet met the likes of samuel carter , he had been unfortunately accosted by a saleswoman and her absolute need to have the league's celebrities imprinted on any poor individual she could find.

[break][break] Not that Jayden particularly minded. He found the wristbands useful. Should he find himself in a difficult situation, they might be useful materials to snap or choke someone with.

[break][break] Either way, the boy found himself jogging on the beach chasing after his Tyrunt who had somehow found herself a gathering crowd to participate in. As he slowed to a stop, the boy found himself blending in with the other festival-goers, some of them battles and some of them not. Thanks to her small size, the Tyrunt duck and dove between the crowd to get a closer look — a natural result of that meant Jayden had to follow, as he elbowed himself through the crowd.

[break][break] " — AND ARE THERE ANY VOLUNTEERS THAT MIGHT WANT TO HELP OUR ESTEEMED HEAD RANGER —"

[break][break] Jayden was not one for crowds. He liked even less to volunteer himself for situations he found unecessary.

[break][break] The same, unfortunately, could not be said for his newly-acquired Tyrunt. She had broken free from the crowd and scampered forward, only stopping in front of the Head Rangerh imself.

Okay, so this was a very different take from having to battle all the time.

He’d realized that the Tournament was also a place where they could scout potential Rangers and hopefully, possibly recruit them to the cause—

And so here he was, helming an area where he was showing how to handle wild Pokémon-related situations to various passersby. Of course he wasn’t expecting the… fan club… to turn up—

He could clearly pick them out in the crowd. Of course they were there.

Either way, he was surprised to see a Tyrunt clamber up on the stage before waving its tiny little arms in his direction.

“Well then! Who owns this brave Pokémon that is very eager to volunteer for this scenario?”

[break][break] The Laurence Anderson fan club had surrounded the poor Head Ranger. At the very least, much of the crowd were composed of them. Many young teenage girls - and even some boys - could be found with official-unofficial merch. The most prominant of them were bright blue headbands, with the three-pronged rhombus-shaped feathers known for the Freeze Pokemon. There were even matching t-shirts in the crowd. One woman in particular held up a giant, blown-up image of Lars' face inhaling a bowl of ramen noodles (where had she gotten that photo from?).

[break][break]"— MARRY ME MR. ANDERSON!!!!" One voice rang out from the crowd, high-pitched and clear, before the announcer silenced the audience as the esteemed ranger spoke.

[break][break] The crowd parted to reveal a very uncomfortable Jayden, who was rubbing his neck. "Hi. I'm — uh —" He glanced behind him, hoping there weren't any cameras. Fortunately, they were all focused on Lars and not him. "I'm Michail. And that's my Tyrunt. Her name is Narz."

"blghhhhhhhh!" The pokemon grins, raising it's stubby little arms.

‘I hate this.’

‘Welcome to my private hell,’ Lars snarked back mentally as he let the noise wash over him. ‘This is the shit we’re going to be subjected to forevermore.’

‘Forevermore?!’

‘Unfortunate. But it’s the cold, hard truth. We’re stuck with this shit.’

Taking a deep breath, he thanked the commentator before reaching down to give the Tyrunt a gentle pat on the head. At least it was nice now, wait until it evolved and made a mess of the nearest garden patch.

“She’s very eager to get the show going,” he said with an easygoing smile, although deep inside himself the Articuno was cackling and snarking the entire situation they were subject to.

“So,” he said, returning to addressing the crowd that had gathered to hear him share what knowledge he could spare, “…the first thing you obviously do not want to be caught doing when facing a wild Pokémon is to face it head-on and be aggressive. Especially if that Pokémon is the den leader of its own kind.”

Sighing, he continued.

“I’ve seen a lot of scenarios where victims would be rescued from angry, angry Pokémon that started chasing them all because they thought it was a good idea to fight back. That’s the first thing anyone would normally do when faced with a wild Pokémon. I highly suggest to stay calm and not get provoked by them whenever they start attacking you.”

[attr="class","textbox"] jayden, as well as the rest of the crowd, remains perfectly ignorant to the conversation that goes between lars and his icy commander. instead, what they see is the charming head ranger as he instructs the rest of the crowd on the ins-and-outs of wild pokemon care.

[break][break] many nod and give "oohs" and "ahhs" appropriately as the blond continues to speak.

[break][break] jayden watches too, his curiosity peaked. he was always willing to learn more information, and he had been many months until he'd come into direct contact with a den leader.

[break][break] when there's a lull in the other's speech, jayden tilts his head. "so other than staying calm, what would you suggest is the best course of action?" if he was already being volunteered, he might as well play his part.

[break][break]"runt tyrunt!" the pokemon says in agreement, running over to stand directly in front of lars, waving it's tiny arms at him cutely.

“Obviously, asides from the ‘stay calm’ part, another thing to do while in the presence of a wild Pokémon is to stay downwind from it and blend in with nature. Some species have very powerful senses of smell, and will track like Houndoom hell-bent on chasing their prey down.”

Looking down at the Tyrunt, he then got an idea, before looking over at the unlucky volunteer on stage. His name rolled—rather similar to how his friend’s did, although he wasn’t sure if it was a misspell or something.

“However, if you’re backed into a corner—and you have a Pokémon with you, the first thing you can attempt is to pacify the Pokémon. Seeing another would help the matter from escalating.”

At that moment, the icy equine began stamping restlessly on the stage, before exhaling a Mist from its nostrils.

“Should you be caught by surprise, what’s the first thing you do asides from not scream?” he continued.

Somewhere within the thickening Mist on the opposite side of the stage, the Glastrier waited to charge.

Glastrier used Mist to hide itself!

[attr="class","textbox"] as a ghost-type specialist, sense of smell was not something that he often had to concern himself with. many ghost type pokemon, for example, such as golett had an arguable sense of smell. there was still much research being done on the topic whether or not they did.

[break][break] the same, of course, could not be said for other types of pokemon, especially mammals. jayden thinks briefly of freek, and the way that he had chased pokemon in the safari zone — relentless, domineering, impossible.

[break][break] he would not have liked to be on the other end of such a predator.

[break][break] as the presentation continued, the next set of words seemed to be directed at himself. "stay calm," he said, blinking. had the man not just said such a thing? besides, screaming was very rarely on jayden's first line of thoughts when placed into a cornered situation. "consider your options. evaluate an exit. however, if not possible, create an opportunity for one."

[break][break] it was almost as if jayden was talking about something else, completely unrelated to wild pokemon.

[break][break] "runt tyrunt!" narz says, the complete opposite of jayden's emotions. she waves her tiny arms, stamping her feet against the crowd. excited. "easy," jayden says, placing a hand on her head. he blinks, considering the growing mist around them. after a moment, he speaks, voice ringing with clarity. "rock slide."

[break][break] excited to be doing something, the tyrunt raises it's stubby arms and channels the power of the attack. the ground rumbles briefly before boulders fall from the sky — however, not onto the glastrier, but rather around him in a small circle, an attempt to trap him.

The Mist was thickening the longer the Glastrier remained hidden within it, before Lars stepped off to one side so that everyone else present (yes, even those in the back) could see what was going on.

“Another good thing to do: consider cornering them, and that was a good show of Rock Slide used in a creative manner,” he praised the young man, before another loud whinnying noise broke through the Rock Slide blockade and out came the frozen equine, stamping on the ground and slapping their hooves on the stage.

A few moments later, the ice on its body became—shinier than usual as the Glastrier used Iron Defense.

“However. When they get angry…”

The equine stood their ground, although the hooves were clip-clopping already, impatiently, ready to charge—before it did rip across the stage, coming down on the Tyrunt.

“How would you stop a stampede of Pokémon?”

Glastrier used Iron Defense to prepare, before charging at the Tyrunt!!

[break][break] not that jayden should be surprised. he is well aware that the pokemon he is battling...

[break][break] was it a pokemon, actually?

[break][break] jayden did not know much about the pokemon who they were facing, honestly. and that was saying a lot, since jayden was the sort of person who prided himself in intel of any sort. that being said, he did recall a book flipped open in a library one fated evening with remiel in the restricted section of a library...

[break][break] he would have to do some investigating later. not here, when there were so many watching.

[break][break] "impressive job sir," "michail" says, turning to the presenter that was the head ranger of the region. his head tilts, as he considers their options. the gleam of the horse's iron defense still shoes — the clock is ticking.

[break][break] in an ideal scenario, he would want to stop the stampede by any means necessary. at least half of the means that entered jayden's mind were unsavory - not fit for an audience of children and giggling fangirls. ice, fire, and water were all out of the running - narzisse had neither of those moves in her arsenal.

[break][break] "in an event where a stampede cannot be stopped," jayden says, blinking owlishly at the ranger. "we don't stop it." a long pause, and then he says, "we divert."

[break][break] an arm goes up, pointing at the ice equine. "narzisse, rock slide — "

[break][break] the tyrunt nods and then raises it's arms. once again, it uses rock slide to create a circular barrier around the glastrier to trap it in. when assumedly, the pokemon stampedes through next — "ancient power!"

[break][break] this time, rather than spires that crack through the earth, rocks fall from the sky like tiny meteorites, threatening to crash down onto the glastrier unless it moves.

As the Glastrier continued to charge across the stage bearing down on the little Tyrunt, there was a few seconds’ worth of warning before rocks started falling down around it once more—which they broke through with a Body Press attack and coming to a stop—before the second rumbling came.

Neighing, the equine Pokémon had to scatter away from the incoming diversionary tactic.

“Diversion is another way to control a stampede. Usually, tunnel vision happens with all the members of a stampeding herd. If they see a wall, they’d either smash through it, or go another direction should the obstacle prove to be too large.”

The equine was still galloping, trying to evade the falling boulders.

“Are there any other questions?”

Glastrier used Body Press to break out of the Rock Slide barricade!
