The referee blew their whistle to announce the start of the Sphealball match. "Let's get this match started! Serve!" shouted Zac, tossing the ball to Blaziken.

Wanda sent the Spheal soaring into the sky with a devastating SKY UPPERCUT. In a few seconds it would come plummeting back down on Cian's side like an icy comet.

with a grunt, swampert leaps forward and brings her arms together to cushion the impact of the spheal. it bounces off clean, ready to be set by onix who simply nudges her head up.

jumping into the air, weavile spikes the spheal with a strong METAL CLAW, sending it back over zac's way.

The perfect formation and response from Cian's team scored and easy point. Really, the only person on Zac's team who was into the battle was Wanda.

"come on guys! Put a bit more effort into it!" Zac said, helpfully. Nyx the Hypno responded the only way he knew how: with METRONOME. Zac watched, intrigued by the teamwork of Cian's team. He went to take a sip of his Charja-Cola, only to find that the can was gone. "Hey!" he shouted, as Hypno downed the almost-full can.

Nyx's fur began to glow, as the cola took effect. Pink fur gave way to searing purple, then pure red, then a searing, glowing aura of crimson cola. "It..it's beautiful," breathed Zac.

Nyx floated above the sand, his red fur burning like a sunset. Blaziken set the ball, and Nyx moved. He was faster than Zac's eyes could follow. There was a smear of red in the air, and then the Spheal ball was plummeting towards Onix.

"Hey, if it wasn't legal then the ref would be blowing his whistle right about now," Zac said, as the referee looked around fervently for his whistle.

Cian's return soared over the net, and Blaziken kicked off the sleeping Bulu to intercept the shot. Her sizzling legs smacked the Spheal back towards the other team. BLAZE KICK!

the spheal's spiked back over, barely giving them enough time to react. with onix frozen solid, it leaves receiving duties to the weavile, who lunges off to the side to stop the spheal from hitting the ground.

The ROCK SMASH did little to arrest the momentum of the burning blaze kick. Another point!

The ref checked their belt, only to find their whistle hook empty. Nyx had snatched the whistle at the same time they grabbed Zac's Charja-Cola! The little silver chain and charm were now dangling around the Pokemon's neck.

Hypno glowed with unfettered power. "Nyx! Incoming!" Zac called, as the ball came back over the net. Nyx's burning eyes followed the ball. He swung, casually, as if he were decapitating a weaker opponent with the blade of his hand. The simple movement rent the air and pierced the earth, tearing the beach in two with his unfathomable power.

The FISSURE cracked the volleyball field into uneven halves, and Zac leapt to safety as sand poured into the massive crack in the ground. "Cian! Watch out!"

the earth splits in front of him, forcing him to leap off to the side to avoid being consumed by the FISSURE. the sand cushions his landing and he immediately scrambles, pushing up in time to see his frozen onix slowly sliding into the crack.

"get onix!"

weavile's attempts are useless as its claws simply graze off solid ice. ultimately, it's swampert who saves the day with a powerful ROCK SMASH that shatters the ice.

despite that, onix isn't able to get a hold on anything and slides off the side, beginning its descent into the underdark.

Zac shouted out as his friend's Onix was consumed by the growing FISSURE. "Wanda! Save him!"

The Blaziken sprinted up a growing jut of rock and kicked off, soaring through the air above the deadly gap. She tucked in her arms, and dove straight down into the unknown with an aptly named BRAVE BIRD.

90-100: Blaziken MEGA EVOLVES (I'll buy the stone)
50-89: Blaziken saves the day
25-49: Blaziken faints
0-24: Blaziken makes things worse

[attr="class","cian"]perhaps it's the onix's heavy weight that saves it but it takes an excruciatingly long time for it to slide down. it continues to, though, which allows the blaziken plenty of time to find an interesting stone.

Wanda shot past the slowly falling Onix. She landed on a rocky outcrop, and found an interesting stone. Flames streamed from the shiny gem, attaching to her wrist and neck in flaming streamers. She crowed, and kicked back up the fissure, bouncing off the walls before colliding with Onix and uppercutting the falling opponent back up to safe ground.

Onix soared to safety, followed by a gout of flame and then Wanda herself. They were safe.

"Legend!" Zac shouted, vaulting the crack in the ground to check on Cian and Onix. Unfortunately, at that moment the ref ran over and snatched his whistle from around Nyx's neck.

"What? Disqualified? Why!?" Zac asked, dumbfounded by the outrageous decision by the referee. "Use of performance enhancing substances, theft of an official's equipment, use of an illegal move, and activation of an unregistered Mega Stone," the referee said, rattling off the violations while Zac's mouth was still open. "Oh. Well, yeah that's fair. Thanks ref."
