It didn’t take long for him to encounter the first pokémon. Or, rather, it didn’t take long for him to hear the first pokémon. Nearby, a small rock loudly snapped to pieces. Then followed by a second, a third, and a fourth. The sounds came rhythmically, as if intentional, and when approaching he learned that they actually were: a small Clobbopus was punching rocks.

Was it trying to practice its punches, or was this just its way of satisfying its curiosity about the rocks?

Mars didn’t really know, but he thought it was kind of cute, a small smile reaching the edges of his lips before moving on. After all, this pokémon was not what he was looking for, and he had always been too stubborn to easily make compromises, even about things like those.

Leaving behind the weird little Clobbopus’ antics, Mars walked by the edge of the water, his Glaceon always near him. The sun shone up above, and the man found himself thinking that even if they were to not find what he had come all the way to the Safari Zone to look for, it was still nice to be spending the day out here and not in the office where he so often felt trapped.

But, just as he thought that, something moved in the water – a smooth blue head popping up to look around in curiosity. He recognized it right away, and looking at his Glaceon, he pointed towards it. Of course, Melpomene needed no more instruction. Her gelid gaze fixed on the Dratini, and just like that, she sent an Icy Wind towards the little dragon.

This too wasn’t what he had been looking for, but for some reason, something within him told him he should catch this pokémon.

Maybe, it was because deep down, Mars had always been a bit of a fuck boy.

+ Catching Dratini like FKBOY

Well… he got himself a dragon.

After sending Melpomene to retrieve the pokéball, he looked at it as if trying to determine its worth – weighing it, even throwing it up in the air once or twice. Then, he just put it away with a sigh.

It was hard for him to feel impressed by a dragon, you see. After all, the grand majority of his experiences with pokémon in the past had been with cute and harmless-looking ones that could have wrecked a dragon with a single attack, and even his own Glaceon had no trouble facing off against them most of the time. How could he be impressed by that? Then again, this one lived in water, so he supposed he could give it a pass out of appreciation for that.

While he thought of this, a fish pokémon jumped out of the water, almost as if teasingly. Warm eyes fell on it, and while he almost commanded Melpomene to go after it, he stopped himself at the last moment.

There would be more, surely. Wasn’t that the whole point of the species?

A Wailmer!

It had suddenly appeared from beneath, as if it had floated upwards just to go bobbing along with the tide. And man, it was a really tempting one! Like, picture this for a second: a beautiful day in the middle of the ocean, a Wailord floating merrily along, and on its back, Mars, sunbathing without a care in the world. It was perfect! Sure, having a yacht was cool and all, but having to go get it out of the marina all the time was so annoying. So, why not catch a pokémon that could easily function as an impromptu boat?

The problem, however, was that Mr. del Mar was not a man to settle for the first thing he saw (aside from when we’re fuckboy'ing for Dratini, of course), and he felt a need to ignore the Wailmer and keep going to see what else he could find before the end of this Safari Zone trip.

He did, kissing adiós to his sunbathing dreams.

As if a consolation prize for not catching what Mars would call ‘a potential top tier sunbathing spot of a pokémon’, an Inkay floated by only a few minutes after their encounter with the Wailmer. Melpomene looked up at the little squid-like creature, confused as to how it could just float around midair, but also ready to attack if it was needed.

Technically speaking, Inkay was no water type pokémon, but it did live in water! Also, it was just so fucking adorable, and Mars kind of liked the idea of having one of those cute little buggers floating around and hypnotising anything he pointed at. Useful!

With this in mind, he clicked his tongue, and this was all he needed to do for the Glaceon to immediately aim a Freeze-Dry directly at the other pokémon.

Once more, he nonchalantly tossed a pokéball.

+ CATCH THAT CUTIE SQUID!!!! C:

Ew. What the hell was that?!

Some kind of… giant bug thing crawled by while he was busy picking up his brand new Inkay-filled pokéball, and it startled Mars so much that he almost dropped it in the sand. He usually didn’t care much for Bug pokémon, mind you, but some of them were just… well… gross.

With a sigh, he stood up, smoothing down his clothes as if attempting to dust off the disgust he had felt when seeing that thing crawling around. Maybe in the future he would catch one, but right here, right now, he was just fine with his cute new Inkay, thank you very much!

”Come on, Mel,” he called to the Glaceon that had been temporarily distracted with chasing after the bug, and without waiting for her to return, he resumed his little walk along the beach, knowing she would catch up.
