A Dratini!

Was this fate? Was Mars actually destined to become a Dragon type specialist? Was he going to build an army with all these Dratini spawns and eventually take over Hoenn?

No! The Fates must have been playing a cruel trick upon him or something! He would not be swayed! We’re here for Water type pokémon and Water types we will get!’
[break][break]
”Erato.” He called to the Milotic’s attention, his tone filled with the chill and harshness of someone who is about to order an assassination. ”Blast that thing out of my sight with Twister.”
[break][break]
And so, assassination it was.
[break][break]
An orb of light appeared before the Milotic’s beautiful fan-like tail, and with one wave of it, strong winds filled with Dragon power were released from it, aimed straight for the poor little fiend of a Dratini. It was, quite literally so, blasted away, and the Mars just watched it all happen, his reaction to it being no more than a simple ”Better.” once the pokémon was nowhere to be seen.

The oceans were ridden with all sorts of creatures. Both big and small, beautiful and terrifying, known of and mysterious. For thousands of years, literature had spoken time and again of humanity’s fascination with the denizens of the deep, telling tales that allured as much as they inspired terror.

But, do you know what those ancient tales probably never spoke of?

A fricking Wimpod!
[break][break]
Mars rolled his eyes when seeing the little water bug. Bored, unimpressed, and annoyed to have such an ugly little thing cross his path.
[break][break]
See, he really did like water pokémon, probably more than any other kind of pokémon, but as he saw it: there was nothing aesthetic or appealing about a Wimpod. And aesthetics were important! Fundamental, actually!

He waved dismissively, and in response to the gesture, his Milotic used a Hydro Pump to scare away the Wimpod.

As he lay there, lounging comfortably on the back of his Milotic and enjoying the touch of sunlight upon his skin while a foot was dipped in the water, Mars watched the ocean. Here and there, pokémon would swim beneath the waves, going about their business and completely ignoring Erato’s presence. Hell, some even avoided her, although that was probably to be expected, as size alone may have made her seem like a threat in the eyes of some of the smaller water pokémon.

Nearby, a Clobbopus swam, Mars realizing this was actually the first time he saw one of those things swimming and not hitting things or being tossed around. He ignored it, because Clobbopus seemed common enough, although he honestly would have liked to catch one sometime...

For a while, nothing happened, and Mars felt as if he was going to fall asleep on the Milotic’s back. To the point that when a little Inkay much like his own Lethe popped out of the water, he almost thought he was imagining things for a second there. Then, he considered if he should catch it, since Inkay was one of his favourite pokémon. But… What was he going to do with a second one?

Train them to work together?
[break][break]
Give it an alternative moveset?
[break][break]
By the time he decided, the little squid was gone, and he was left staring at the water.

Oh well, there would always be a next time.

Then there was a Wishiwashi.

Or, rather, a whole school of them!
[break][break]
Beneath the waves, they all swam together in a perfect School Form, Mars watching them with fascination and awe. In his eyes, they definitely didn’t look as mesmerizing as his own little Legion with their shimmering gold scales, but he could appreciate these Wishiwashi nevertheless, and a faint smile illuminated his expression when looking at them.

He would let them be, because they looked at peace – Mars always finding himself to be somehow more lenient when it came to such kinds of denizens of the deep.

”Do you see anything good, Erato?” He asked the Milotic, knowing it was unlikely that a satisfying answer would come from this.

Aha! There it was!

Floating out onto the surface as if a giant blue buoy, a Wailmer suddenly appeared, Mars grinning at the sight of the Ball Whale Pokémon.

Hell yeah!
[break][break]
The thought of his perfect middle-of-ocean sunbathing fantasy had haunted him ever since he had skipped on catching that one Wailmer back during his last visit to the Safari Zone. But, he had learned his lesson. This time would be different! This time he would make sure his dreams came true! Because he was Mars and because he goddamn deserved to sunbathe on the back of a giant whale in the middle of the ocean while drinking daiquiris if he wanted to!!

“Erato.” Having been called to attention, the Milotic set her gaze on the whale, her fan-like tail being waved once more in order to produce a second Twister – Mars being ready to throw a pokéball the moment it hit.
