"judging by your pokemon — i'm sure you'll do great." alex adds, silently regarding the whimsicott's quiet bursts of energy that sent the pursuing wild into a state of unwanted slumber. "that absol," a pause, "was she your starter?" some part of him doubted the query as soon as it withdrew into the open but the curiosity persisted an alternative.

"she isn't, that'd be my now-gengar."

it'd been a gastly for so long, that it'd evolved into a haunter and then into a gengar nearly overnight. it was an offhand comment that sam had made about the lack of evolution that really finally got the gastly to evolve. ironically.

"but the absol has been with me since mt. pyre. but in a way, you could say she was my 'hoenn' starter. she was my first wild capture while i was here."

whimsicott gave a small call as absol managed to DETECT something in the grass. she turned the whimsicott on her horn a bit and as the mightyena in the bushes pounced out in an attempt to take a chomp out of the whimsicott, she let loose another MOONBLAST and rejoiced as the dog whimpered and stayed on the ground, ears flat and tail curled beneath its legs.

sam tossed another pokéball and shook his head, taking the whimsicott into his hands and holding her. trying to keep her moonblast-ing controlled.

[attr="class","alex"]"a gengar?" the momentary drawn out anxious notion is barely percieved by the still—bound smile. "perhaps it could befriend the one we met on pyre." he joked.

"really?" unspoken theories conjure themselves within the chambers of his mind. absol was a creature with a deeper purpose after—all. was there a reason she'd been ambling around that particular area? however — alex doesn't feel provoked into truly asking this.

nearby company stirs within the tall grass and thick foliage.

instead of acknowledging it, he continues, "though i think i should've directed that question towards your whimsicott." another light—hearted joke in regards to all that had befallen to her powerful blasts.

"i wish he were the friend making time. he's more of a brute, to be honest."

the whimsicott immediately eyed the tall grass, eyes narrowed. she was ready to launch another blast if needed, though sam's pat to her head had her humming and rubbing to nuzzle his palm with a kiss.

"the contrast of the pokémon i choose is quite astounding. i know, they're all different. but to see it in action is a whole other story."

[attr="class","alex"]the quaint remark provokes a small laugh. "i think they choose you." he adds — his eyes alit by charm. "it's tough trying to stick to a type you're familiar with when all the ones—completely opposite—come running first." alex pauses, "but that just means pokemon like you. that's a good thing." not everyone had that ability after—all.

alex enjoys their surroundings as they shift and change around them. eventually his mind wanders and his mouth opens. "hey..." he starts, "did you ever check out that riddle again? after we left?" he'd had a whole notebook with strange riddles and small tales. only some of which corresponded with each other. 

this was surely one of them.

"was it really even a grave?"

"unfortunately, i didn't get the time to--oop!"

his absol's DETECT caught a launched berry from hitting her trainer. she gave a growl, and whimsicott immediately raised her head and made small barking noises as if to ask what was going on. sam released her from his grasp, and she pushed her body up, up, and up until she caught sight of the dragon.

"maybe don't--" but he spoke too late, there was a MOONBLAST heading at the dragon. it faded into the shadows, a PHANTOM FORCE trick sam knew well.

"absol detect again!"

without hesitation she followed command, a DETECT allowing her to hop up and grip the whimsicott, pulling her by the cotton and pointing her at the drakloak that appeared out of sam's shadow. she fired off another MOONBLAST and nailed the dragon's side.

sam turned, tossing a pokébal with great delight, and smiling at the absol who released the clapping and excited whimsicott.

"she's really a cannon isn't she?"

[attr="class","alex"]a single hand extended towards the whimsicott in a harmless attempt to pat her on the head. the raichu still on his shoulder shifting and floating into the air with a curious tilt of the head. he seemed to be admiring the fluffy fairy—type.

"she's a force to be reckoned with." 

it was really incredible how strong a pokemon could grow. it was in—fact even more so incredible when one was simply powerful from the beginning. alex could recall skimming over old legends of pokemon portrayed as heroes in a time when war was an often occurrence.  

alex found it curious that a drakloak was here of all places. pokemon certainly weren't confined to their home regions but it couldn't have been so outwardly often.

a force to be reckoned with indeed.

the whimsicott accepts the love and affection show, so much so she gives sam a pat on his hands and wiggles in his hold. a request, which he obliges by holding her out to alex.

"she wants to say hi."

and the way she says hi is by floating over to alex' hand with a happy laugh and a giddy body flail, wanting to be held.
