Bo wasn’t often angry, but if anyone could get him to such a level, it was his own family.

After their interaction over Roman Maher , things had been mostly quiet. Then, Roman had gone missing. Bo hadn’t said a word to his brother about it, but his suspicions were already mounting. His father had surely been looking for a way to drag him back into the fold.

When he spotted CIAN MAHER through the crowd, his gold eyes locked on. He didn’t approach immediately, and he was unsure if his brother would either. He didn’t put it past him to simply walk off in the other direction.

Bo would follow if he did.

Either way, he called out to get his attention. “Cian!”

Bo clicked his tongue and nodded, eyes in front of him because Cian’s face was a bother. At least, for now, and until he could make sense of what was going on with Roman Maher .

“Yeah. You are too.”

Finally, he looked over and raised a brow.

“You gonna battle me?”

There was only the thin illusion of a choice. Bo had hunted him down.

He gave a light laugh. It was genuine, maybe. Bo could not stay mad in the moment, regardless of what ate at him. Still, there was a slight look of solemness somewhere in his face that wasn’t typically there.

“Nah, not really.”

Bo had seen himself how Cian had been doing, and had opted not to mention it. He shook his head at the comment. “Beats me.” Commitment, purpose, experience…

“What kind of a brother would I be if I just let you win?”

He reached for his belt, and pulled three pokeballs.

“I’ll let you pick. Nidoking, Aurorus, or Gigalith?”

he doesn't pick a counter by choice — his options are limited, which might explain how most of his opponents have been able to counter him.

Nidoking was his favorite of the three, and despite his situation, it tugged at his smirk a little. He was, maybe, proud that Cian wanted a strong fight.

“Good choice.”

The beast was released onto the sand, and those walking around quickly made room.

Bo took a step back, into the empty space he knew was behind him.

“Right now, then.”

More steps, and distance was made, and they had a battlefield that no one dared to cross despite a lack of lines. There was something tense between them in the air. Maybe it was all Bo. He was uncharacteristically severe enough for both of them.

“Been a while, hasn’t it? Show me what you can do.”

excadrill's not used to fighting on his own. with no SAND STREAM, he doesn't feel as comfortable nor as fast, but he'll do as he's told.

"boost yourself."

the battle starts with a swift SWORDS DANCE that preps the excadrill for battle.

Bo wasn’t quite used to Cian going into battle without a SAND STREAM, either. Things felt a bit out of place, but he did his best to focus.

“Go for the ground.”

Nidoking reared its head and gave a roar, and EARTH POWER parted the ground beneath the Excadrill, shifting jaggedly and exploding outward towards the mole for impact.

as the earth beneath them explode up, excadrill takes a sharp dive down, DIGGING below before tunneling across the battlefield.

the brief lull is nice. peaceful. fit for a brief conversation that cian doesn't feel up to starting. at least not after their last interaction.

The silence wouldn’t be broken by Bo, either. He simply stood there, eyeing across the sand at his brother, wondering.

He’d ask soon enough.

Nidoking stood knowingly, bracing itself for assault and powering up with FOCUS ENERGY. It watched the ground for signs of eruption.

[attr="class","cian"]the lack of a SANDSTORM is bothersome. normally, there'd be no chance of having a conversation over it, so the silence he faces now is uncomfortable.

eventually, the ground erupts, and from it comes an excadrill with sharpened claws that strike at nidoking's leg with a heavy CRUSH CLAW.

The silence remains, only broken to give a command:

“EARTH POWER, now!”

As the Excadrill broke out of the ground, it would rattle and clash violently again—this time with a body freshly surfacing. Even so, while focusing such energy on the ground around them, Nidoking could do nothing to defend itself from the slashing CRUSH CLAW. It took the damage, but hopefully there had been some returned in the process.

[attr="class","cian"]the damage is returned — EARTH POWER slams against excadrill's small body, restricting his movements just enough to stop him from dipping back into the ground.

so excadrill stays on the surface instead, bouncing back up to drag a METAL CLAW across nidoking's chest.
