Being in Slateport and not making a point of visiting his former neighborhood would have been nothing short of offensive, really.

Doug readjusted his sunglasses as he came at a stop at the plaza were Tent City once stood; around the area where hundreds of refugees and homeless had once shared the same space and even meals, now stood several rows of brutalistic-styled, swiftly made apartment complexes; residences that had made the Tents useless.

Seemed like his appeal had made it through after all.

"The League cleans up nicely when it wants to." Muttered the youth to himself with as he stuffed his hand into his pocket and marched to the center of the plaza. He had rarely ever noticed it before, but there was a beautiful fountain at the center of it; he had probably missed while covered by the several colorful fabrics.

"Kinda miss it, though." He admitted outloud.

With a cast of his pokeball, a runerigus appeared. Perhaps an unusual site in Hoenn given it was indigenous to Galar, but then that didn't seem to stop any number of different forms from showing up here. A big part of this tournament he had used to experiment with his less used pokemon, his B team. For most part this had resulted in unanimous loses...

Battle!

The youth snorted as his friend piped up, throwing a lazy grin over his shoulder.

"With any luck, the new wave hoodies will sell better weed. Last batch I got'ere was not worth the money." The youth said, ignoring the subject of tents as he turned to face the other halfway. He pulled out his phone, thumbing through the H✩T app casually before looking around. "Says they should be 'round here nearby."

Just as he finished saying this, a hoodie and a chav approached, arms weaving through the air as one rapped and the other beatboxed.

"... Ya've gotten better since last time." Doug said after the duo finished their beatbox-rapping combo, laughing as he exchanged a somewhat elaborate handshake with the two.

He glanced over his shoulder back to Andy and grinned.

"Dunno if you remember these two, but you actually met them last time ya came'ere." He said to the other youth, before shrugging. "Well, ya saw them at least."

Probably would've been way more memorable if they had tried their routine then. The youth did not doubt Andy would have roasted them into submission without provocation.

"Kelly, Marshall, ya remember Andy, yeah? That should be enough re-introductions then! Let's battle!" He said with a grin, pressing within the phone app to confirm initiation.

It was fortunate they had already been standing within the League approved, Silph-manufactured Instant Battle-zone.

A pokeball symbol lighted up beneath their feet, before expanding to encompass the radius of a full sized battlefield, generating a Silph safety barrier around them to keep the action inside.

Their opponents released their pokemon next-

An Exploud, and a Chatot.

"Oh, little Loudred's evolved... Guess we better take this seriously then!" Doug said as he swung his arm into the air, releasing his Volcarona into the field, the moth crooning as she spread her wings wide.

''Since you're familiar with that one, I'll let you have it,'' Andy said with a nod to the exploud. Knowing it was a normal type meant his runerigus would be useless against it. Most normal types he had made himself aware of. That way he knew when he was screwed.

''Scribbles.'' The runerigus hovered around his trainer at the summon. ''Let's start with a bang, eh? Earthquake.'' Looking to hit both opponents at once, and one of the few moves he had that would be useful here, made it an obvious choice. The ground of the old encampment rumbled at earth chruned around the two.

Doug had simply grinned at the drugs jab then, though he neither confirmed nor denied whether he had dabbled in the Mary Jane or not.

Perhaps for the best.

"Their mom would kill 'em if they had dressed like that in a community gatherin'." The youth said in response with a bark of laughter, prompting a pair of good natured glares as well as a couple of week shoves between them.

Finally however, the battle could begin in earnest, with Andy leaving the Exploud to him; Doug simply grinned and nodded, rolling his neck as he winked at the familiar pokemon before ordering his Volcarona to take center stage.

Doug and the rappers were promptly dropped on their asses as Andy brought a localized quake directly to their battlefield, the earth and roadwork splintering and cracking as the Exploud collapsed to its knees, off balance. The Chatot proved much less affected, spreading its wings and taking flight in response to the sudden tectonic activity, flying high over the duo before reeling back and screeching at them.

"FUCK!"

It blasted, nearly throwing them off their feet, Volcarona sent hurtling back with a squeal while Doug cracked up on the floor, laughing.

"Really?" He asked, whipping a tear. "How childish are ya guys?"

Said the guy laughing at the profanity spouting parrot.

"Awright, enough of this, let's get real! Mothra, Fiery Dance!" He ordered, his fire bug spreading its wings wide before flapping them strongly at the Exploud, releasing swaths of flames at the monster.

The Exploud reeled back and blasted against them with Hyper voice!

Stumbling from the screech, the Blackadder boy nearly fell over from laughter if nothing else. He hadn't seen many pokemon capable of speech. While he did try to convince his rotomdex to spit curses, Buzzer had proved resistant to his cajoling. Now he had to try and find one of these... whatever it was...

The other pokemon also shouted at them, though this was just an annoying racket. While it definitely had an effect on his eardrums, the both pokemon did little that bothered the ghost-typed runerigus. Andy figured that must have been something like normal type since Scribbles didn't even seem mildly irritated.

''Know that saying, 'kill two birds with one stone?' See if you can get one Scrib.'' Making some ungodly hissing sound, one of the runerigus' ghostly appendage lashed up to slap at the chatot with brutal swing. If it started flying around all over the place, it was going to be an issue. Scribbles didn't have many ranged attacks.

"Think I've heard it once or twice 'fore." Doug said with a grin, catching on.

Mothra squealed as she was blown away by the Exploud's screaming her wings flapping rapidly to try and keep her into the battlefield's limits, spreading several burning hot scales all over the field which swiftly began setting fires to the floors.

The Exploud blinked as its scream washed over the Runeriggus without leaving a hair- er, pebble out of place before yelping as a massive swing was taken and ducking under.

The Chatot proved nowhere near as aware, squwacking as it was smacked into the flames Mothra was whipping up, flapping its wings desperately to try and get out of them while screeching FUCK repeatedly, its screams somehow managing to blast away chunks of the flames surrounding it before it angrily looked at them once again, releasing a blast of supersonic the Runerigus' way!

Realizing its attacks weren't having much effect on one of them, Marshal ordered Exploud to target Mothra with Hyper Voice once again!

-Chatot used supersonic on Runerigus!
-Volcarona used Fiery Dance!
-Exploud used Hyper Voice!

Covering his mouth, he was trying not to laugh at the chatot being roasted alive shouting 'fuck' all the while. Sadistic as it was, the situation was slightly comical. It probably wouldn't have been so if it had not been trained with that one profane word. Alas, here they were. As the supersonic washed over the runerigus it's one eye blinked for a moment.

''Try a shadow ball.'' Andy said after a sigh, but his pokemon only glanced around, confused. ''Scirbbles?'' The runerigus instead deigns to cast crafty shield on volcarona. Which wasn't bad, he supposed. It wouldn't hurt Doug's pokemon after all. ''Scrib, get your shit together! We have a fight to win.''

Rather fortuitious that the confused Runerigus chose that particular move.

At exactly that moment, Marshall's voice rang, and his Exploud reeled back to spit a disgusting ball of Toxic at the enemy duo, it splatting across the floors to cover both in its slime.

Doug did not seem worried about this, sweeping his arm in the air.

"Don'cha worry! Think he did just fine! Mothra- get some energy back!"

Naturally, the toxic never reached the Volcarona, the crafty shield working as intended and protecting her as she rose high in the air and began glowing green as she locked eyes with the Exploud.

The enemy pokemon suddenly lurched forward as it too began glowing green, its energy being syphoned out by the bug type.

The Chatot meanwhile, took flight towards the Runerigus, attempting to smash into it with a gleaming wings of steel!

-Exploud used Toxic!
-Volcarona used Giga Drain!
-Chatot used Steel Wing on Runerigus!

As the puddle of toxic vomit showers over the collection of haunted stones, it seemed the runerigus came to his senses, shaking his 'head.' Gleaming red eye looked sickly, losing some of its glow. The poison hissed on his stone body.

Andy didn't understand how you could poison a rock, but there were things that made less sense in the world. The chatot swooped at him and it looked as if the attack might connect. Just as the bird was about to slam into the stone drawing, runerigus' body contorted, ghostly appendages flexing and expanding to let it pass through momentarily.

Wandering spirit had leeched off the bird's tangled feet allowing him to easily evade while confused. Monocular eye narrowing, it brutal swung itself back together, closing down around on the bird in an attempt to clap it between its unusual physical form. But perhaps it would only hurt itself.

Battle!

Shaking off the Giga Drain, the Exploud suddenly took a flying leap at the Volcarona, maw opening wide before it released an absolutely massive boomburst, blasting back the fire bug with a squeal.

"Not too long now..." Doug muttered as he watched his Volcarona roll over the floors, knowing her temper would cut loose before long.

Landing on the floors, the Volcarona turned a heated glare at the Exploud, before a thrumming sound began to rise from it, a loud croon breaking out its unseen maw before it became a sound shockwave, exploding outwards and cracking the pavement as it went to slam into the Exploud!

Sentient rocks clamped around the Chatot without warning, drawing a loud yelp from the bird as it found itself trapped, struggling its (not entirely impressive) mightiest to free itself from its trap.

Kelly cried out, ordering his Chatot to Astonish the Runerigus to slip out!

-Volcarona used Bug Buzz!
-Chatot used Astonish (chance to flinch) on Runerigus!

Astonished its eye winced and it dropped the bird on the ground. Blinking, in annoyance the pokemon mirrored his trainer.

''It knows ghost moves too?'' A rhetorical question for himself. ''Damn it, Scribbles. Stop fucking around and smash this thing already.'' With a chunky gurgling hiss, the runerigus glared down at the chatot before an earthquake once again shook the already punished arena. Casting a concerned glance at the tremors beneath his own feet, Andy wondered if it would hold.

''Yo,'' he called to his battle partner. ''If this keeps up the League's going to have to build another housing project over the crater we leave in the place.'' The last thing he wanted to do with ruin a neighborhood, even if it was only cheap hosing projects. Anything was better than staying in a sea of tents.

Doug grinned at Andy, before rolling his finger in the air as if to gesture at the bubble surrounding them.

"No worries. The special battlefield system was made to contain the destruction of urban battles!" Since not every (heck, the vast majority of) battle in the tourney ocurred within the battle tents, there not being anywhere near enough, the LEAGUE APPROVED SILPH BATTLEFIELD SYSTEM had been developed and installed all over Slateport.

Doug decided to keep the name and details to himself however, not wanting to give Andy any reason to actually try and shatter the barrier around them. FERNANDO SILPH seemed to be a bit of a rage trigger for the other youth.

"So go wild, mate! Battle's drawin' to a close!" Doug said with a grin as he swept his arm across the air, turning his attention to his Volcarona. "Mothra, put yer lungs into it!"

The battle of sonic shockwaves continued as the Exploud and the Volcarona tried to overpower each other's sound.

Meanwhile, the Chatot slowly tried to pick itself up after being made to literally eat dirt, cracked pavement and upheaved rock all around it following the Earthquake.

-Volcarona used Bug Buzz!
-Chatot is recovering!
