The concept for this battle sounded interesting enough, and when the man took his spot at the arena, it was with a confident smile. ”Hey, Sam Carter, right? I think I saw you in that HNN special recently. Love hearing about what you’ve done with Mt. Pyre.” Look at Sam being all famous! Then again, it may have just been because Mars prided himself in being well-informed, so he always made sure to watch the news.

The tattoos also made Sam kind of hard to miss, let's be real.

”Martín del Mar, nice to meet you.” He would have introduced himself as Mars, but he was supposed to be here in an official capacity, even being here in full POG Bank CEO summer getup – which most noticeably included glasses and a Meowth-patterned Alolan style shirt with the bank's logo at its pocket.

He reached for a pokéball, summoning a Glaceon who needed no command to make HAIL rise around them.

as the hail began, just the buffet took out the noctowl, even as she casted her REFLECT. habit, as she usually prepared for decent battles and not this rigged ridiculousness.

sam on the other hand gave a smirk, returning his fainted noctowl and releasing his shedinja. maybe the ability would help him.

though not if the pokémon he was up against after the glaceon had any moves it was weak against.

"fury swipes!"

the haunted husk of a pokémon did just that, letting loose a FURY SWIPES that would cause enough damage to win them that round, breaking them even at 1 - 1.

Just like that, Melpomene was down, her health having been lowered so much before the battle that a simple Fury Swipes on part of the Shedinja caused her to faint.

Usually, Mars wouldn’t have cared much about seeing one of his pokémon unconscious. It was bound to happen, after all. But, first and favourite among his pokémon as Melpomene was, having to call her back to her pokéball just like that made him feel some sort of way.

He acted as if nothing happened though, calling a Croconaw to the arena instead.

”Crunch.”

It was all it took for the water type to jump forward, charging for the Shedinja with the aim of catching it and biting down on it. Brutal.

the crunch has sam smirking, already returning the shedinja before it can hit the ground and calling forth his toxtricity.

"show him some love."

the toxtricity lazily blinks, low-key as always, and when it sees that gorgeous croc she can't help but beam. closing the distance between them, she goes in for a NUZZLE, to paralyze the opponent and likely to knock it out.

and just for good measure she gives that croconaw's maw a smooch.

SHEDINJA has FAINTED

Nuzzle’s power is like barely 20, man.

And, sure enough, 20 was all that was needed.
[break][break]
Our dear Croconaw lady didn’t look too happy when seeing the Toxtricity charging towards her, and she readied to bite down on this enemy as well. But, when she was about to, she found herself PARALYZED and unable to do anything; falling back with the Punk Pokémon on top of her as waves of electricity coursed under her every scale.

It was too much for the water type to handle, and soon enough, she FAINTED as well.

She was returned to her pokéball, and in her place came an Inkay that floated around idly, his little tentacles dancing in the air as he looked at the Toxtricity.

”You know what to do.” Mars said with a smirk, and sure enough the tiny squid aimed a powerful PSYBEAM at his opponent, hoping to cause some damage or to confuse enough that it would hurt itself.

it was a bit embarrassing, how toxtricity just threw up two peace signs and sang a high note before falling backwards, fainting from the psybeam.

sam rolled his eyes and returned her, throwing out his comfey. she was usually used on mt. pyre to take care of flowers. because of this, the sheer panic in her expression at facing another pokémon was likely comical. it was to sam, anyway. that much was proved by his light chuckle.

"magical leaf."

a sure hit move, she knew as much, but the comfey panicked. her little body and flower crown twisted and she sent the MAGICAL LEAF soaring in the direction of the inkay.

TOXTRICITY has FAINTED

The Comfey was kind of adorable, and Mars couldn’t help but smile when seeing how scared she looked to take part in this battle. Could anyone blame her though? Every pokémon here was tired and bound to end up fainting, and that sure mustn’t have been too fun for any of them.

Just like his Inkay fainted with the other’s Magic Leaf, floating in little spirals through the air until FAINTING right in Mars’ hands. Poor thing.

He returned it to its pokéball, then calling a golden-scaled Wishiwashi that was exactly that: one shiny Wishiwashi. No school could be formed when her health was so low, but ever the fighter, she flopped over the sand, using a surprisingly powerful TAKE DOWN on the Comfey… only to take recoil damage and FAINT a second after that.

”Oh… Anticlimactic.” Mars chuckled, because honestly, it was kind of hilarious. ”Give me a second.”

He reached into his pocket, bringing out a pokéball and releasing a Slowking.

the moment the take down hit, sam made a face. recoil would-- oh, and there it went, out for the count. it was definitely anticlimactic and sam was returning his comfey to send out his next pokémon.

the gastly gave a bat of her beautiful long eyelashes, thinking herself ever the sexy jynx as she was put on display for the world to see-- or at least that's how she saw it. her eyes landed on the uglier than hell itself slowking and she furrowed her eyebrows. if gastly's have those.

without any need for command she just used HEX to get it to go away, scoffing at him and sticking her tongue out.

At least Mars thought as much, and that’s what mattered the most, even if the Gastly thought the poor Slowking (who was waving at her, by the way) was so ugly that she deserved to FAINT with no less than a Hex. Dramatically, she brought her paw to her chest, flopping down onto the sand, motionless.

The little red bug crawled through the sand when called out from his pokéball, as if completely harmless. Yet, suddenly, he charged for the Gastly at top speed, pushed forward by the intensity of AQUA JET.

sam returned the gastly as she gave some banshee shriek upon fainting from the knock of a lil bug like that. he turned to his hood, pulling it up. the little gold and emerald ghoul on his back could have been mistaken for a backpack.

"your turn, melinoe."

the chittering on his back, like an evil little laughter, faded with the imp's weight from his shoulders. a SHADOW SNEAK is what would end the little bug, giving sam five faints and mars six, concluding the match in sam's favor.

with a smile, sam made his way over, the weight of melinoe the sableye returning as he held out his hand.

"well played."

The poor Wimpod could have never seen it coming, Sableye quite literally sneaking up on him to deliver the final hit. He curled up with the impact, rolling on the sand until FAINTING a few metres away from his attacker.

That was that, then. The match was over, and Mars’ pokémon had lost, although this was the obvious outcome from the moment his Wishiwashi took herself out with that Take Down. Oh, Legion, you silly fish.

Still, despite having just lost, he smiled at the other man as he called the Wimpod back to its pokéball. ”You too, congrats on the win. You have some nice pokémon there.”

he didn't have more than he could keep track of, mostly because he had an eidetic memory and the ability to recall a chart he hand made. not to mention checking his pc... but anyway.

He offered his own hand for the other to shake, and along with this gesture came an introduction. ”Martín del Mar, CEO of Piazza Oro Grande Bank.” He usually didn’t add his job description when introducing himself, but since Sam had done it, it was only fair he did it as well. Plus, it could be relevant to the conversation.
