Amber eyes stare sharp behind the sunglasses that shade them. The underboss is unrecognizable, dyed hair and a Galarian lilt to his voice as he calls, "G'luck, mate!"

The brackets introduce him as 'Liam King'.

Upon seeing the Pokemon the other has chosen, Gavin can't help but make it a mirror match... sort of. Fire and ice, his Alolan Ninetales taking the field in a flurry of hailstones thanks to its SNOW WARNING. He's CLOAKED by that SNOW immediately, the shine of his eyes still visible among the mist.

He doesn't recognise the man standing before him but there's most certainly a sense of deja vu that runs through his veins. Regardless, Lykaios returns his greetings with a nod, ushering his own Ninetales into the ring.

The hailstorm summoned isn't quite beneficial to them, but Yuna manages by simply melting away the ice that hits her body. Without even a sound or a signal from her trainer, the Ninetales preps herself with a Safe Guard.

Gavin cants his head as the safeguard shimmers, calculating.

Ninetales needs no direction; his first order of business when his hailstorm is not dispelled is to set up an AURORA VEIL to further cloak his white fur behind the falling snow. Now, when he steps back into the thick of it, he is almost invisible.

Gavin lingers close to the battlefield's edge, taking respite from Hoenn's heat in the cool, dampened air.

It's unfortunate that they can't quite counter the hailstorm, but Lykaios doesn't make too much of a fuss about it. After all, it's in extreme weathers that rangers must thrive and perform to ensure the safety of pokemon. With a whistle, he tells Yuna all that she needs to know.

Though he has become nigh invisible amidst the hail, a soft growl of pain from Gavin's Ninetales suggests that the psychic assault has found its mark. Not only that, but the cry of pain would doubtless give their opponent a better idea of where to aim their next attack.

White MIST takes on a shimmering pink quality as the TERRAIN is manipulated under the Alolan variant's spell.

At least that would prevent them from being burned.

Their mark is found, the acrid scent of burning fur causing Gavin to wrinkle his nose and step back from the solace of the cool air.

Gavin hasn't been commanding his Pokemon during the battle, hadn't stopped it from attempting the futile hypnosis despite its own terrain keeping drowsiness at bay. Thankfully, that same MISTY TERRAIN prevents the confusion from taking hold in the fox's mind.

Sensing he might need to give a bit of direction, Gavin clicks his tongue.

From within the pink-white mist and falling snow, a DAZZLING GLEAM of light flashes across the battlefield.

Despite her slip-up, Lykaios still believes in Yuna's capabilities. She just needs a little shove in the right direction and his whistle does just that, telling her to keep on the offensive instead of tripping her opponent up.

Even as the light hits her, Yuna barely seems to hurt from the attack, using the direction of the flash to determine where her opponent is. Then, she exhales, allowing an Inferno to consume the ground before her and seek the other Ninetales at large.

Gavin tilts his head as the other whistles, the ghost of a smile gracing his lips. It wasn't only Rocket who used the non-verbal commands but the sounds remind him of home, of a family he'd chosen rather than the one he'd been born to.

He clicks his tongue and his Ninetales counters the inferno with a fierce BLIZZARD; though not entirely effective in stopping the attack of its fiery kin, there's a violent hiss as the attacks collide and it does manage to dampen the severity of the burns. In the moments before the hailstorm swells to once again consume the Alolan fox, it could be witnessed stumbling slightly in its agony.

He's stumbling. The Alolan Ninetales is close to the edge and both Yuna and Lykaios know it. Even as hail continues to pelt her, the Ninetales remains tall and proud, heat swirling in her presence as she stalks closer to the last known location of her opponent. And with a bark, she unleashes the flames, Blasting her opponent with Fire without any intent of letting him escape.

A high, sharp whistle from Gavin cuts across the battlefield.

As fire ripples through the hailstorm, his Ninetales retreats toward the sound of his call. Heat from the flames light the beach and cast shadow across Gavin's chin but they narrowly miss their mark thanks to a quick intervention.

In the fading light from another DAZZLING GLEAM, however, it's clear that this is Ninetales' last stand.

The bird call is interesting. Different.

It also spells the end of their bout.

Though Ninetales attempts to retreat from it, the raging inferno consumes all that it touches. Fire burns a path through the falling snow to reveal the flagging fox before it's beset by cinders and burns.

It tries to stay on its feet. It's been taught, as have all of Gavin's Pokemon, that there is only victory or death. But this is not that kind of match. As his Pokemon struggles on its paws, too weak to fight but determined to obey its masters wishes, Gavin recalls it.

He dips his head to his opponent. "Congratulations."
