He unscrewed the bap on a bottle of water and downed half of it in big glugs. It was so, so hot. Hair clung to his face with sweat, and it was about time to go home that day.

“How's it goin? I'm Bo.”

Cradily was released in a red beam from a pokeball in his hand before he settled the capsule onto his belt.

“Ready?”

Well, he certainly looked like a Bo. Now, she had no preconceived notions as to how a Bo would look, but this man just kind of fit. Weird. But that was probably a good thing in general. For the time being, she just accepted that.

“Hello there Bo,” she replied in a friendly, mostly casual tone. She had gotten over her earlier annoyances and was now just enjoying the day, though for the time being, she had retreated under her sun dress and a wide straw hat again. It was overly hot, after all.

For now though, she decided to bring out one of the Pokemon that had tried to assault her garden, releasing Meganie to the fight. “Ready when you are.”

It was interesting how much Meganium sort of resembled Cradily. Maybe there was something ancestral to that?

The Cradily’s head bobbed as its SUCTION CUPS got a firm hold on the ground, despite the sand.

“Cradily: ACID.”

Poison erupted from the gut of the fossil-type and spewed from out of its dark interior, hoping to wreak havoc and POISON.

This time, Vio was not wasting any time. The other party was coming with Acid right out of the gate, which sounded bad. But Meganium, in anticipation of her order, had already begun to absorb sunlight. “Solar beam!” For once taking a more active role, Vio ordered the Pokemon to use its strongest attack right out of the gate.

Maybe that would work better than the other tactics she had tried. That might get Meg hurt by whatever acid was not burn away by the ray of sunlight, but the big girl could take that. Hopefully.

The SOLAR BEAM hit the Cradily and hurt—however, it seemed to not be quite as effective as it might have been on other types of pokemon. The fossil’s dual typing made it resilient to such an attack.

This time, Cradily unleashed an ASTONISH. Spectral, ghost energy appeared out of nowhere to spook and harm.

Ah, well, it survived. That was okay. She had not expected to win in one go. Plus, that thing was trying to spook Meganium. Which, admittedly, worked, since it flinched swiftly, taking some damage. But, well, the grass type was recharging anyway, so it did not do much.

Violet just shrugged and let that happen. Not like she could give any orders in that moment to change anything. Best just stay and watch what this weird stone-plant thing would do next. Maybe she should have looked u p its typing, but one only lived once. No time to waste on trivial matters like that.

ASTONISH had done little, and so, they would opt for something else.

“ANCIENT POWER!” Bo commanded again, knowing his Cradily could be a little unpredictable with the scattered moves at their disposal.

It glowed from within its green body, tentacles swaying to summon its ancestral fossil energy before launching it towards the recharging Meganium, hopefully before they could react.

“Take that, then Heal Pulse,” she ordered. For once, she was using a bit more strategy, coupling Meganium’s healing powers with the vulnerability caused by the Solar Beam. That alone would not win her the match, but she would be able to heal at least part of the damage, as green energy gathered around Meg’s wounds and slowly restored them.

If the first salvo does not finish it, a battle of attrition would simply have to do, she figured. Not that she could do much else that was better, of course. But that did not make it a terrible strategy. Actually, for once, she had one. Maybe she’d win this one.

If they were going to heal, Bo decided to try and balance things out a bit by powering up for the next assault. Again, he advised his Cradily, “Get ready.”

Yellow, glowing eyes watched, never blinking. Waiting for the HEAL PULSE to stop, and for the next attack, so they might be able to defend themselves.

Ah, well, a battle of attrition then. At least she thought that was what stockpile did. Frankly, Vio was not completely sure. But that did sound right. What else would you stockpile, berries? Those didn’t grow on the beach anyway.

But, well, since the next move was obvious, she might as well go through with it right away. “Now then Meganium, let’s Body Slam this thing. I think it’s stuck to the ground, but that just makes it more bouncy, right?” She chuckled briefly at the joke, while the larger Pokemon thundered towards the ancient plant. It did look like a dinosaur itself, too, which gave this a bit of an Jurassic feeling.

Indeed, Cradily was very stuck to the ground. It bobbed all the way down towards the sand like rubber, its tentacles flailing. BODY SLAM hit hard, but somehow it was not enough to knock it over.

However, the damage was clear, somehow, in its face. Maybe its eyes had narrowed a little. That would definitely leave some bruises.

Now that the opponent was close, it decided to unleash its ACID once more, hoping to drench the Meganium this time.

Yes, that was the downside of being so close. This time, she could neither dodge, nor burn the Acid away as it was flung at her. Instead, Meganium would have to soldier through it. At least until it could heal again. But that would probably just be a holding pattern at this point.

“Hit it with magical leaf then,” she ordered, not wanting to use Solar Beam this close. But this might work better, especially so close to the squishier parts of the ancient plant. Maybe there was something they could cut through somehow. Otherwise, the poison would probably wear it down eventually.

BRINE was launched now from the Cradily’s mouth—not in an attack, so much as an attempt to get the leaves away; protect itself. A couple still made it through to cut, but that didn’t stop them still!

Once they’d cleared the attack, they attempted to react quickly.

“ANCIENT POWER, again!”

And so, it happened. More rocks, more ancient energy in hopes to bring down the Meganium.

The leaves were brine’d somehow. She did not quite understand the science behind that. But she did not have to. All she needed to know was that the leaves were gone for now, and that the other side was trying to throw more rocks at Meganium.

But no time like the present! “Body Slam it again, don’t let it get away!” That attack had showed the most success so far, so Violet would repeat it, hopefully bringing this ‘Mon down before it could defeat Meganium. And if not, that was fine too. Again, she did not actually care about any of this. She was just gathering combat experience to become a better Rocket.
