This was perfect! Just right up his alley! So exciting! Maybe…just maybe!! He’d find something he was really looking for. Team Rocket needed quantity not quality right? So it was ok if he just…nabbed a magikarp here…a lapras there…maybe a little wailmer. If he could find any of those at least. He held his fishing next in his hands, hands pruney and shoulders tired. How many times had they cast this net for nothing to come up??

Ugh. Who knew pretending to be hitching a ride on a fake fishing boat would be so tiring? But it was the only way to entice civilians to help Rockets with grunt work. Just a little money to entice volunteers and bam! Loads of new manual labor. “Get anything yet?” he asked with a sigh, turning to his companions for validation.

Gyarados, slithered through the water, with a ranger on her back.

She was supposed to be flying and he was supposed to be yelling at her for not flying but coasting along outside the waters outside of Sootopolis was soothing.

So he didn't bother to correct her mistake.

Of course the sea-dragon to end all sea dragons banking on the surface meant she likely scared away the very pokemon the people on the boat fishing were fishing for.

Unlike Mint, Eris is a little more about the thinking, less about the monkey-like bungering. If her net thrown out doesn't pull in anything, she may as well look deeper. Instead, she whistles to the waters below, watching as a Floatzel and Chinchou surface with net in tow.

With the help of her Luxray, the catches are hauled on board - Several Corsola, a Magikarp and a Mantine…

"Keep searching." She whispers, throwing the duo another net as she turns her attention to her partner. "Wanna help sort these ones out?"

Just before she can even begin with the aquatic pokemon, Thalassa resurfaces, chittering angrily as she points into the distance. Eris pauses, listening to the rhythm of her calls before daring to sneak a peek at the disturbance with her trusty binocular.

"Gyarados and its trainer." Handing Mint the binoculars, she reaches over the edge of the boat to pat the Floatzel for a job well done. "Could explain why we're not getting a lot, ya know?"

Mint sucked his teeth as he turned to look at Eris’ haul. “Yeah, sure.” He said, resigned to just being a bad fisherman. He wanted to at least start pulling his weight. They’d made it sound like a really easy job too. As he tried to shove a poor Mantine still flapping uselessly on the deck the report comes back to Eris. “One Gyarados huh?” he asked, with half a mind to figure out if they could steal it. But that wasn’t subtle, was it? And right now, the objective was quantity, not quality. Well, maybe that could work for them. “Let’s see if we can get them to herd stuff towards us instead. Might make things faster.” He suggested before cupping his hands around his mouth and beginning to call out to the stranger. [break][break]

“Hey Stranger! You here to help us fish?” he called out before waving at the pair, arm already extended in a big wave as he tried to signal Senon over. Whether it worked or they just irritated the other trainer to death didn’t matter to him.

He liked the look of long swim trunks with shades obviously; the sun was no joke even over the ocean. Plus what brought the whole look together; a slightly puffy vest with no shirt underneath.

He could feel the wind on his bare chest and he had so many pockets. He took a tiny bottle from one of them.

He could float away on Ranton's back and take shots of Rum under the sun without a care in the world.

So long as that damned boat just kept going with the fishing and didn't interject on his shit.

"Shit" being him just sitting there with his shades and his gyarados and his slightly puffy vest and his ignoring these people on this boat.

That much is clear and Eris really doesn't need to say it, but she does so anyways because she doesn't like to think before she speaks. The ocean-logged net drips in her hand, rustling with the wind as the saltiness of the sea beckons her to indulge in mischief.

She lifts the net up, shaking it a little before casting a sideward glance towards the rude stranger.

Mint squinted as the trainer and Gyarados seemed to ignore them. Them! A whole fishing boat that, for all intents and purposes, was trying to make a living right now. A frown began set in his face as Eris piped up. Seafoam green eyes move towards the net before back at their quarry. “Yeah, why not?” There wasn’t anything better to do out here anyway. Not with the other guy scaring away all their fish with a giant sea monster as a ride. “Cioppino, I need a favor.” He asked releasing the Wishwashi into the water and grinning down at them. [break][break]

The fish pokemon stared up at him before he nodded over at Eris and then gestured at the pair of water types as well. “Take this next and try to see if you can catch that redhead over there.” He said, pointing at the ranger and his partner. Cioppino look at their target then back at Mint and then over at Eris’ pokemon in acknowledgement. There’s a slow nod of understanding before Mint grinned and dropped his end of the net back into the ocean. Cioppino quickly grabbed an end, waiting for the other to do the same before diving down under the surface and beginning to cut through the water. Through coordinated efforts the trio would do their best to shoot under the unsuspecting pair before rocketing to breach the surface and drop the net over their prey to entangle them.

This is what life was like in Hoenn now.

For all he knew this is what life in Hoenn was always like.

One minute you're sitting there with your alcohol mini-bottles and your swagged out puffy vest and the next your tossed up between netting and a thrashing Gyarados.

The trashing pushing you one way, the netting keeping you stuck to the trashing.

He hadn't seen Ranton panic this much since he plucked her out of the Lake of Rage with his bare hands when she was a magikarp that got too close and too curious.

Apparently she wasn't the only one too close and too curious, and when he got free someone else was getting plucked.

Grinning to herself, Eris whistles Thalassa back over, readily hopping onto her back and swimming right on over. After all, they don't really need their ship to be sunk by a thrashing Gyarados! Her balance is kept upon the Floatzel's stomach, an accusatory finger pointed up to the sky and falling down onto the unnamed trespasser of the deep.

He hadn’t expected that to work QUITE this well. Mint broke out into a huge grin, turning to Eris. Before he could even cheer ‘We Got ‘Em’ the younger rocket hopped off the side of the boat and began speeding away on her Floatzel. “Hey-! Wait-!” he called out quickly letting out his Wailmer into the water and carefully climbing over to land on top of them. “Follow her!” he said as he rested on his knees and brought his body down closer to the top of the Wailmer’s head for balance. [break][break]

He stood up as he arrived, catching Eris’ monologue and attempting to be intimidating next to her as he crossed his arms and looked before their catch. “Hear us now and hear us well, O’ Big Bad Wolf of the Sea! For ye freedom has been taken but your true punishment yet to be revealed! Now you will undergo trial! Face judgment, and answer our questions: Big Bad Wolf of the Ocean, what is your purpose here?”

So hard to move against the frantic tensing of a seadragon.

Before any follow up could happen, the gyarados submerged seeking refuge.

It called on all his muscles just to maintain his own willful movements. Damn puffy vest, so hard to reach the pockets while fighting off whiplash.

How big was that net? It must have been stuck on her front half to trap him up too.

Ranton didn't know any better than to panic; she was well trained not to attack out of a pokémon battle, unless Sénon told her to.

From the surface view, through the depths there was a red flare and rising bubbles became less and less.

Before they can even listen to the man make his case, his partner goes mad and proceeds to sink into the darkened depths. Submerging in these waters really won't help them to escape the net, her gaze follows the thrashing movements of the Gyarados as her mind quietly counts the number of bubbles that surface.

After a few seconds, she cants her head, finally voicing the one concern that comes to mind.

Their intention wasn’t to drown the poor man. Really, they didn’t hate him. Eris probably didn’t really care, and Mint only felt a mild sort of irritation. All the same he stood there as their dramatic and wonderful monologues are ignored. After a few moments, he glanced at his companion, frowning. “I-I think he is?!” he said though he still seemed unsure. A simple fishing mission was going so poorly. First no fish, then a drowned civilian. Gods, they were in trouble if they didn’t act soon. “Cioppino?!” he called, before watching the Wishiwashi appear. “Get down there and try to pull these two back u-“ [break][break]

A red flare goes up from the water and the grunt hissed a curse. “I was supposed to tan today!” he hissed now that there would soon be more attention on the trio. “Let’s just pull him but, maybe subdue the Gyarados. Unless you want to cut the net?” He asked, his Pokémon already heading down into the water. In a flurry of movement, the water type, they disappear under the surface moving to rescue Seno and his partner. Mainly Senon, the one who couldn’t breathe underwater. “I know this might be late, but should we cut the net?” he asked, turning to Eris to confer.

A call and release was the best means to reset a pokémon's disposition.

It took what felt like an eternity of struggle to reach her pokéball but finally he called her back and spawned her again, free of the net.

Underwater, it was easy for him to free himself of it too.

With Ranton circling the depths below him she came to him swiftly and he mounted her head holding on by her head-crests.

On the surface the water would grow a lump on the surface until suddenly the water tension broke and the Gyarados took from submersion to sky-bound.

Gyarados used FLY!

Launching into the sky before the other pokemon could intervene the seadragon rose above the clouds, the head ranger on its head laughing his ass off, and reaching for a fresh mini-bottle.

Whoever threw the net wasn't going to be getting the best of his day off. "BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME NERDS!" he screamed over his shoulder on his way up. What kind of jerk tried to catch a Gyarados with a damn net?

Ascending higher and higher he made his exit vertically, leaving the would-be fishermen or whatever to their work.

So inebriated and primed to not be disturbed that he never quite registered the "fisherman" might be poachers and thus totally his favorite kind of target.
