Heat wave?

What better way to deal with the Summer heat than going for a swim? After a long morning of meetings and work at Piazza Oro Grande Bank’s headquarters, Mars had made his way down to Slateport beach. It was a particularly hot summer day and the air in the city seemed stagnant under the heavy weight of the sun’s rays. The kind of day meant to be spent sitting at home right by the A/C, or in this case, at the beach.

The briny breeze came as a small comfort, but diving in the ocean came as a great one. He liked it there, and by the time he came back to the surface, he didn’t even mind all that sea water that he would definitely have to wash away later. Fingers ran through brunette hair, returning to the shore while soaking wet and clad solely in his POG Bank swim trunks (which were Meowth-patterned, naturally). He was going to sunbathe and dry off, but it was then when he noticed a handsome stranger (because Mars is no blind) passing by him, making his way to the water in a rush.

How to pass up on a chance like that?

”Hey, man, is your Eevee alright?” Mars asked out of all the concern and goodness of his heart.

His own Glaceon watched it all while sitting on his towel, unimpressed and judging.

Andres slowed, reacting to the stranger’s voice. His eyes immediately move down to catch sight of whoever has spoken. For once, he didn’t need to. His stare remained on the oddly cute swim trunks on toned legs before rising up slowly to meet Mars’ eyes. Somewhere in his brain is that thought- that thought that happens when he meets other hot guys when he’s at the beach, carrying around an obese furry pokemon: but what is his regiment? [break][break]

And then Chuchi let out another loud whine, panting from the heat. She had been held at a standstill long enough. “Oh, uh, yeah she just ate too much and she’s also overheating.” He explained, as Chuchi looked over at Mars with big eyes. Not the ones she used to intimidate others into sharing their food, but the ones she used to confused others that one little nibble…couldn’t hurt right? There’s a weird rumbling in the pokemon’s stomach and Andres immediately looked down. “Are you seriously hungry right now?” he asked, both incredulous and disappointed with his partner. Looking back up at Mars, he added quickly so as to not seem like a completely irresponsible trainer, “I was gonna toss her into the waves to cool off while I grabbed some ice water. She’s…probably fine.” He flashed a somewhat nervous grin as the sand got wetter and he could almost touch the seafoam. “Thank you for your concern though. Name’s Andres~” he added before crouching down to set Chuchi free. She thanked him by remaining where she was, lazily belly flopping on wet sand.

That was one hell of a fat Eevee.

He looked at it, and he was reminded of Melpomene and Ezzelin before they had evolved; back when they had looked so alike that it would have been impossible to tell them apart if both him and Cosima hadn’t been so fond of accessories. This Eevee wasn’t nearly as healthy and well-groomed as theirs had been, but the memory still lingered, and a faint smile tugged at his lips when the pokémon looked at him as if pleading. ”Poor thing, let me help you with that.”

”Mel, come here for a second.” He looked towards the Glaceon and the pokémon responded accordingly; Melpomene standing, stretching as if a feline, and gracefully walking over to where the Eevee had chosen to lie down. She did no more than gently tap Chuchi’s forehead with her frost-like nose, and in her touch, the other pokémon would have found the air around her to be comfortably cold – a Glaceon’s body all too cold to be affected by the heat in the same way most would.

Mars simply watched, nodding approvingly, and then he turned to look at the other man. Andres, as he had introduced himself. Interesting.

Eyes of amber met darker ones, holding his gaze with confidence and ease. ”Martín.” Just one word to introduce himself, the intonation clear and said as if honey-coated. ”It’s nice to meet you, Andres.” He offered a hand for the other to shake, smirking.

It’s strange to think about how bothered by the heat Chuchi was. Whether it was a combination ot all the fat and fur, or her heavy lunch or both….Chuchi was being a little bit whinier than usual. It’s almost funny, considering Andres had considered evolving her into a Flareon back in the day. That is, until she’d eaten the Everstone he’d given her while he tried to acquire a Fire Stone. “Aah- Thanks compa!” Andres said as he watched his partner perk up when the Glaceon got closer. He could feel the cool air on his toes. Like instant AC on the beach. [break][break]

Dramatic as she was being, Chuchi did begin to feel way less overheated, sighing in relief and tail wagging lazily behind her. She indulged in the cold for a minute before looking up at Melpomene curiously. It wasn’t often she got to meet with pokemon like her. At least, it’d been a while since she’d seen an eeveelution. Though, one could hardly guess the obese normal type and more graceful, ice type were related in any way. Chuchi couldn’t move like that if she tried. [break][break]

Martín. The blonde nodded, memorizing face and name before slapping his hand in his new friend’s and giving the man a good shake. “Same to you. You saved me a trip to the pokemon center for her.” He said as the Eevee stared up at Melpomene with a mix of admiration and curiosity. Still laying on her belly, she didn’t make a move to get up, but Andres could clearly tell she would follow the Glaceon if they tried to go back to minding their own business. “Are you a local by any chance, Martín?”
