Cobalt eyes shift to set upon her angered expression. Remiel is confused— or, at least, he thinks he is. Though he knows for certain he's done or said something wrong again. The feeling is familiar. It isn't the first social quandary he's found himself in.[break][break]

"That depends entirely on you," He plainly responds. "I imagine we'll see each other at headquarters, unless you transfer to another division... or leave Hoenn altogether." Eyes narrow on her expression in silence for a beat afterwards. The egg shakes against his back, almost as if warning him to reconsider his response. He suppresses the urge to sigh.[break][break]

but it didn't matter.

Siobhan rises, grabbing the Litten and hugging it to her chest so Cheshire doesn't slip down. it's just wishful thinking on her part - she knows it. she can't help but be angered by it though.

the woman remembers a conversation past. that she wasn't vain enough to assume she was special to Remiel. so what did that make her now? a hypocrite. "it's fine" she says. it isn't she thinks.

more burning behind her eyes at his casual response. more mixed feelings.

so I really was nothing after all.

A slight huff of disbelief out from Remiel's nostrils. "I must be daft, then, for finding that hard to believe." He responds, returning the burning look behind her eyes with a sharp glimmer of annoyance in his own. How had he found himself here again? Why was she resorting to such childish pouting? And why couldn't he bring himself to understand— or truly admit— what was going on?[break][break]

The prince crosses his arms and finally releases that sigh as he looks off. "When we first met it was I that came to you with offers of becoming something more. You made your aspirations clear back then, even under the stipulations of our contract and my hopes to make a personal ally out of you. But clearly something has changed..." [break]

she lets that ring in the air between them, like electricity. she had already begun to walk away, pausing at his words. Siobhan took in a breath, closing her eyes. he states the terms once more. "I know all that" she says to Remiel "and I had no problem with it" back then, anyway "a professional relationship is what I wanted."

but "not anymore."

another silence, her cheeks tinting pink slightly. but she was far from a blushing schoolgirl. it was easier not to look at Remiel as she says it. "and I have made peace with it not obtaining it." another lie. she would make peace with it as soon as the burning stopped. as soon as she drew a breath and released herself from his grip.

"I apologize for this awkwardness. it won't happen again. you... will not hear about it from me again." and that was a promise she aimed to keep. Siobhan begins to walk off, flustered and embarrassed about spewing her wants to someone oblivious to them. Remiel did not feel the same; that much was quite clear to her. but it didn't make the hurt any less.

Not anymore? He's quick to take that as an admission of something worse: she wants nothing to do with him. After all, he thought, who could really blame him for thinking that? Siobhan had been sharp and curt with him on several occasions before. The wrong word or the slightest misunderstanding seemed to ignite a powder keg of emotion and anger against him that he couldn't hope to untangle and understand.[break][break]

In the face of this confusion, and this slight reopening of a wound he hasn't quite diagnosed in full yet, the royal stands speechless. He watches her walk away, the sight of her back like a mirror to his failures in human connection. If it wasn't for the crack of his egg, he might have stood there and meditated on those failures for much longer.[break][break]

Instead, what might have been a beautiful moment shared between the two turns into a much needed distraction.[break][break]
