She sighed, heart fluttering. Her fingers loosened completely again in his hair as she looked down at him, knees a little weak in her heels. She trembled a little in his hands, grinning back.

“We have all night to fix that, don’t we?”

A hand dropped to stretch towards his, inviting him to join her in the airspace again.

The process was both numbing and exhilarating all at once.

Her hands fell from his hair to a shoulder, and down the nape of his neck to draw him closer, and cut the distance between their lips. Her kiss was passionate, and needing, and convincing as all hell.

In turn, she then lowered, planting love against his scarred skin all the way down.

A woman of business knew how to return a favor.

[attr="class","lance"]he is not usually patient; he rushes into things headfirst only to deal with the consequences later, if at all. so for them to take their time now is both excruciating as it is exhilarating.

again, he falls almost too easily.

his hand runs through her hair, gentle at first, but it soon grows rougher, more starved.

how long will either of their patience hold?

She allowed his fingers to grow rougher in her hair without protest. It was thrilling.

Eventually, she took a breath and ran her nose lightly along his skin, nails trailing lightly down the backs of his thighs and eyes twinkling up at him.

“What’s your next play, gambler?”

“Hmm…”

She ran lips along his thigh and stood slowly, fingertips smoothing into his skin on the way up. Her face got close to his again, and then she turned.

Her heels clicked until she’d found the kitchen. She seemed perfectly comfortable wandering around. “No mess in here yet,” she noted.

Then, turning back to face the room’s threshold, she pushed herself up onto the cold surface, leaned back on a wrist, and opened up like a book, with no words—only a finger crooking to reel him in.

bending to kiss the inside of her thigh, he travels up; hands sliding along in tandem before stopping at her hips. though unlike earlier, all he leaves her with is an exhale, a smile, before he shifts back up.

he finds her gaze, then indulges.

She’d never had a love.

She’d never had her heart broken, really, because she’d never felt like she had one to begin with. A smooth operator, empty at her very core, maybe.

Maybe.

Emptiness was still something.

He filled it, for now. She wasn’t sure who he turned into, in her mind. Maybe no one. A vague figure of a man that she was supposed to have in her life, but didn’t, and never had.

It wasn’t sad, really. It just was.

They’d revel in their mess—until he realized the bigger one waiting for him.

for now, he awakes, having slept through the night for once.

he turns only to feel a presence beside him. surprise quickly fades at the recollection of last night, of the mess they made.

when he looks at her, it's not annie he sees.

She slept well most nights—and this one had been no exception.

Having woken before him, she’d gone to get her bag, and retrieved a flip-phone within to send out a short message indicating her progress and safety. Then, she’d put it back and crawled quietly into bed again.

Snuggling up close to him, she smiled into his chest and up his neck.

“Good morning, Lance.”

She gave a deep, content sigh, still nestled close as long as he would allow. His warmth was nice.

“Better than usual, even, honestly...”

Rolling over, she turned to look him in the eyes.

this was routine at one point in his life: waking up next to someone, spending time with them in bed, and eventually, cooking for them.

so the next question is only natural, as if it'd help prolong his fantasy.
