[attr="class","freypost"]no. as a matter of fact, it's not.
and while her ekans is trembling under the utter goliath before it, freya is wrought speechless. a wide smile emblazons itself across her face. she laughs giddily and looks down at her oldest partner. the dragonair uncoils and slithers towards moxie, coaxing the exans away in a motherly fashion.
the steelix is gargantuan, yes, but it makes no monstrous moves towards them in response to aeris' battle ready stance. freya holds up a hand, taking the moment to admire the beast in all his beauty. his coat shimmers in the sunlight; though ash still falls, none of it seems to cling to his plated skin.
it lowers itself to the ground and she stares into its eyes. and she sees a sort of fire in there, a challenge to her, though it's clear he doesn't believe it will amount to much.
"we'll see about that," freya murmurs under her breath. "moxie." the kneels down and her fingertips grace the ground. the ekans twines up her arm; as she stands again, moxie rests her head beside freya's own.
"use your speed," she advises. aeris nods, spine arching as she moves her head from side to side. blue eyes watch with careful calculation; the everstone-wrapped scarf on her tail flutters with the sway of her body.
the steelix raises its head again and nods towards both pokemon and trainer. as it opens its maw, she hears the grinding of its teeth. she wracks her brain for all of steelix's possible moves, looks around at the surrounding area for anything it can use against her, and she it.
"nine o'clock." aeris snaps her head in freya's direction. she slithers shockingly fast over the ashy terrain. the steelix's maw comes into the ground hard, narrowly missing aeris' tail as she flattens herself into the underbrush.
grass rips up from the ground; a cloud of dust emerges a few feet away. freya watches as the dragonair WRAPS herself around a pointed boulder, muscles clenching as she rips it from the ground to hurl it at the steelix.
the snake takes the blow to the face, neck whipping aside as it's stricken. it bellows in pain and swings its body in a tight circle, tail coming down hard on the ground. sharp, pointed stones expel from the body of the steelix and thud onto the ground. the minefield proves worrisome, as most of the stealth rocks disappear under the ash.
"use AGILITY. get yourself on top of it." aeris raises her head from the ground and opens her mouth to expel a warning hiss. the steelix's bones grind again and the guttural screech it expels has freya wincing. and though aeris' cloudlike ears shrink back against her head, she darts forward and springs like a loaded trap.
freya dismisses the scratches she makes out on the dragonair's blurry side as she soars through the air. we're winning.
the steelix thrashes as aeris coils around the base of its neck. the tip of her tail glows a brilliant white and she relaxes just enough to slam her tail back down in a powerful DRAGON TAIL.
freya clenches her fist, palms sweating. the steelix takes the hit with a shudder. not enough damage. gods, what she wouldn't give for lyune's fire right about now. "aeris, we need a different--" she starts, but she's cut off when the steelix coils in on itself and starts spinning in place, aeris trapped amidst its steel plates.
"aeris! get out of there!" but the steelix's gyro ball has her pinned. and with a final thrust, their opponent slams aeris into the ground with a powerful smack down.
aeris lay dazed, body bruised. her tail twitches and freya reaches for the dragon's pokeball before the steelix can finish her for good.
but then she stops. aeris slowly shifts, raises her head, and glares with narrowed eyes as the steelix. it looks as surprised as both freya and moxie.
and then aeris faints.
freya holds her breath, fingers poised, and then watches as the steelix observes its opponent, and then looks up at the silver-haired girl.
she recalls her dragon type, places a soft kiss on the ball, and then dips her head in acknowledgment to the steelix.
and then she throws a ball.
