of all the gym leaders that jayden expected to face in his lifetime, giona ferrara was not one of them.

[break][break] not that it had anything to do with the boy personally. in fact, one might even say that jayden was somewhat fond of him, and their newfostered friendship, ever since their match at the hoenn star tournament.

[break][break] no, because it was unusual for him to see someone so young and capable at the mantle of a brand new gym, at least one that jayden appeared to know personally.

Hair fell around his face. Gel just didn't cut it, these days. He seemed more full of life than usual, throwing little punches every so often. The neon tunnel was a straightforward walk. The tunnel itself was perfectly square shaped, with lights hanging overhead. In fact, Jayden's voice echoed, traveling all the way down to reach him.

Eventually, Jayden would reach a square shaped arena, struck by fluorescent lights with indigo filters over them. The room was tiled all over, with not so much a door for him to push through as a square shaped mouth that left him in the arena.

"Oh. It's you again." He said, looking to the taller man with a smile. Giona's hand was against an opened wall panel: the breaker switches for the lights. He stopped just short of shutting them all off, just to give the two of them a chance to talk again.

The lights cut out in tunnel sections, slowly making the arena darker and hazier. It fell to one row of bulbs between the two, but he kept it on, for now. The dim, bluish lights made his pale face with shaved eyebrows look that much more like a skull. Giona wore a white button-up and black tie, over black slacks. He had on a suitjacket in brown and pink, with a comically large collar.

"How have you been, lately?"

the hallway is dark and rightfully spooky, or should it have been to anyone else who was afraid of the dark. jayden wasn't, however. his pokemon helped too, lighting down the way down the long neon path with it's will o wisp.

[break][break] he glances up at the lights that flicker above him every so often, as if expecting a ghost pokemon to flicker past. no such thing happens. ah - was that feeling disappointment?

[break][break] either way, he eventually makes his way to the end. a large, gaping outline meets him - reminding him nearly of the gaping mouth of a gengar that he'd once seen at a child's birthday party? - and he steps forward. sure enough, this is the main gym space. tiles spread outwards, a purplish hue filtering through.

[break][break] the lights shutter off — nearly. it's as if the room closes in on them both, just two rockets, two guys being dudes.

[break][break] "yeah," he says, with a ghost of a smile. "it's me."

[break][break] his eyes flicker downwards at the other's attire, but finds nothing of interest. then again, jayden wasn't much for fashion either. his attire was typical of his person, a dark black shirt over suit pants.

[break][break] "alright," he says, pausing. "you?"

[break][break] it's awkward and uncomfortable. but the two of them - he and giona - seem to embrace it.

The square arena caught their sounds just as well as the halls did. Neither would have to raise their voice to hear the other talk. To put it mildly, the place was cavernous, like a cathedral. Nonetheless, the two stood opposite eachother in the tiled room, lit by a scant few bulbs overhead, putting a fuzzy blue color over the both of them.

The air was cool and dry. Had to be, otherwise the humidity would destroy the lighting, and the tiling.

"If I knew you were going to stare... I would've taken my shirt off again." He said, looking to the taller man with a smile. Giona turned to face him, hands peeling off of the breaker switches. He looked Jayden up and down, and paused for a second, looking into the middle distance.

Immediately moving on, he hit the last breaker switch, killing the remaining lights in the arena. They'd still be able to see eachother, if either opened up with the flash of light associated with a pokeball. In fact, Giona let out a Mimikyu, a little thing in a shroud. The white flash illuminated him as if he held a flashlight under his face, before dying down.

"You can go first."

[break][break] it's a strange thing to say, and it strikes jayden as such. he tilts his head, wondering if perhaps giona ferrara was hot. however, the cool and translucent lights of the gym gave little resemblance to the unbearable heat of the summer sands during the star tournament. he opened his mouth to say something, then closed it.

[break][break] perhaps now was not the time.

[break][break] the last breaker light is hit, and the two are shuttered into darkness, with everything except for the persistent flames of his pokemon's will-o-wisp. he gestures with a hand; even in the dark, it seems to be visible to chernobog, who floats forward obediently.

[break][break] his eyes glow with the power of future sight.

The arena caught sound, as well as a distinct lack of it. The click of the last breaker switch. The silence that came after his little joke. That was how he rationalized it, anyways. He wasn't good at communicating his needs to others.

The Future Sight was preceded by a minute of Duskull willing it into existance. It'd take a while to land, too. That being said, it'd be deadly by the time it struck. The faint light Duskull produced a moment ago was the only fanfare that this slow-building eruption of power would receive.

In response, the little imp charged forward upon hearing a descending note whistled. The sound cartoons use to punctuate someone going over a cliff. It tried to fall through the floor, and prepare a Phantom Force. 92mch1LW

[break][break] their opponent's phantom force crashes into the duskull without preamble, sending him reeling back. there is something hard that glints in jayden's gaze — disapproval — as the pokemon attempts reel itself upright. pain swells where he was hit — critical but otherwise not deadly.

[break][break] his words are low, yet serious, and the ghost-type requires no further direction before releasing it's flames towards the other.

The arena's shape caught his one word command. Could he see, or was he simply paying attention with his ears to compensate? Either way, the word Retaliate rang throughout the room. It was like having a word stuck in your head, in a sensory deprivation tank.

The flash of white light that sought to burn didn't make its mark either. He shielded his eyes, but saw fit to return the favor and give Jayden light for a moment.

In response, the little imp lit up as a series of notes came, like a dubbed over wind sound effect. It responded with Burning Jealousy, a plume of orange flame that lit up the whole room and sucked out any humidity, while it stood at the center. usUZAql_

[attr="class","inner"] jayden did not possess any supernatural ability to be nocturnal, yet, he had spent enough time in the dark to know how to navigate through it. metaphorically and in some cases, even literally.

[break][break] the flash of bright light rips through the air too fast, and it misses it's mark. or at least, that's the way it seems, with the lack of a sound from the other's pokemon.

[break][break] jayden presses his lips together, and decides instead to close his eyes. after all, it would help him focus on his other senses that way.

[break][break] their opponent's burning jealousy rips through the air with a viciousness that is unmatched, and would nearly knock chernobog out if not for his future sight that suddenly came into effect. the psychic move ripped the duskull from his presence, pulling him away from the damage just in time, even if still managed to singe the pokemon somewhat.

[break][break] while they have the light to their advantage... "attack!" the duskull lets out a groan as darkness shoots out from him in the form of night shade.

The next attack went off. Though the shadow ripping through the flash of light missed, it was the sort of thing that would've knocked out his still young Mimikyuu.

In response, the little imp lit up as Giona whistled, as if siccing a dog on someone. It responded with Shadow Sneak, a cast shadow that acted as a sucker-punch of sorts. 5cP3s5|v
