The Corviknight Driver hadn't said a word when Roman hailed him. Not that he didn't want to. Roman saw it plastered on his face, "Why's a kid like you ordering a taxi?", written in invisible ink on his forehead. As if he had any right to know.

Still....

He glanced back at the driver, still parked near the street lamp, plucking pieces of meat from his teeth with a toothpick. What if he said something to someone? Roman stiffened at the thought. "No." He told himself.

Who would the man even tell? No one was looking for him. Not his mother, definitely not his father (boruta maher) - none of them cared. Roman turned, pushing the driver and what he might do from his mind.

A concrete jungle ripe for exploration, the sprawling city of Rustboro lay before him. This place, with all its twists and turns, marked the start of his first quest.

Roman braved the unknown, looking lost and confused.

piper's planned exploration of the city came with less of a set goal in mind and more aimless wandering. they would be okay as long as they didn't get lost; they had their pokemon with them, and the ice types could work on being intimidating if anything did happen.

which they were trying to avoid. it was hard, though, between their newfound dislike of crowds and fear of wandering off away from the majority of them. so they had stuck to the outskirts of said crowds for the most part. until they locked eyes with a corviknight driver. pushing down the feeling that they were doing something wrong, they hurried in the opposite direction.

and, in their hurry, almost bumped into a kid around their age. it was quick thinking (or something like it) that stopped them before they did, muttering a quick "sorry."

Man, this place must be the world's largest maze. Left to right, it didn't matter where Roman turned; the city stretched on. If only it had a Here Lives Cian sign somewhere.

Roman patted his pocket, still had his phone - too bad he'd killed it on the driver over here. "Where can I find an outlet?" he muttered, emeralds watching his feet instead of the sidewalk.

At least one of them kept their eyes on the road.

"Sorry?" Steam spews from his ears, face frowning, but it puttered out quickly, and his features evened out. What's the point in getting angry right now?

"Just watch where your going next time, okay?" emeralds daggers cut into them from a distance. Angry didn't mean upset.

the kid looked around their age, and at first he looked absolutely pissed that piper had almost run into them. and then he calms down enough, just as they're about to offer another apology, and they try to ignore the embarrassment from what had just happened.

"yeah. sorry again."

they're about to hurry on their way again after muttering their apology, and then something makes them pause. they still keep a distance, and they're not about to seem too friendly, but they can't hold back their curiosity about why this other kid was just wandering around. sure, they were too, but at least they knew they didn't really have a reason other than boredom- and a lack of things to do in the rocket hq after so long.

"are you lost or something?" they would have offered help, if he was, but they didn't exactly know their way around rustboro, either. in fact, they were sure they'd just get them both lost instead of actually helping.
