This was it, this was Cat's first gym challenge! She'd been pumped and excited, she'd had her hands over her mouth almost the entire time beyond everything she actually needed to do for the challenge—giddy to the point that she felt her heart might actually jump out from it from the sheer excitement—and here she was, actually challenging the Gym Leader to a battle![break][break]

A thought had occurred, her trusted partner already on the field—or rather, one of the stone supports for non-water pokémon—the Perrserker ready and rowdy like the little feline viking he was, more pumped than he usually was considering he was in a battle rather than in a near constant state of panic trying to herd his trainer away from dangers she was too busy bouncing about to notice, "... Björn, you can swim right?" Catalina had called out to the Perrserker, who'd just turned ever so slowly back to the pink-haired trainer, sighed, and then refocused its attention to what's to come.[break][break]

With Björn's affirmation, Cat was just about ready, swallowing her excitement to let her usual confidence rise up, "We've got this, right buddy?!" she'd cheered out.

Temp stood on the other end of the field from @cat. He grinned, feeling pride in his chest, even if he was secretly a bit nervous for this battle. It was his very first Traditional battle, after all! Plus, she seemed so excited. He didn't want to let her down and make this whole thing lame for her.

"It's cool, lil cat-dude! We got lifeguards!" He motioned towards a Dewgong on the side of the field who seemed to be sunning herself.

But, pulling himself together, Temp tried to look cool and Gym Leader-like.

"Welcome, Catalina Cross, to the Pacifidlog Gym! I'm Norman Rararie, but please call me 'Temp'! I'll be testing you for the Shell Badge today!" Not that she didn't already know that, but he was excited and needed to make this official.

A Lure Ball was tossed out, a Lanturn flopping into the pool and sinking under the water.

"Let's have a good match! Challenger gets the first move!"

And cool and gym leader-like Temp was, at least in Cat's excited eyes, she'd smiled hearing those official gym leader-y speeches she'd always heard on the telly, though Björn on the other hand had been holding back the need to facepaw at the fact that the gym leader had entertained Cat's silly question. Nonetheless, the two were ready for battle, Cat replying back,[break][break]

"Yeah, good luck Mister Temp!" still a little too polite to just be too casual with someone as cool as a gym leader. She'd paused for a moment after he'd given her the call for the first move, the very thought of taking advantage of someone's kindness and not letting them get ready seeming profound and altogether rude to her. Taking one last breath, she'd called out;[break][break]

"Let's prep things up with Hone Claws, Björn! This is gonna be a tough one!" Cat couldn't hold back her smile, the Perrserker in question keeping his eyes on the Lanturn as he stretched his black-iron claws out, grinding them against one another like a makeshift whetstone as he remained on his stone perch above the pool. The very act seeming to improve his overall strength and accuracy!

Since @cat took time to set up, it gave Temp time to set up as well.

"You too, Miss Catalina! Lanturn! You know what to do!"

The Lanturn circled in the water below, a crackling electricity coming off of her. It didn't just effect the water, but seemed to quickly fill the air as it was discharged. Soon, the whole pool was glowing an electric blue, sparks rippling off the surface. Some of Temp's hair had even raised up and Cat's might as well; the air was thick with an Ion Deluge.

She peered up at Bjorn from under the water, braced and ready.

Ion Deluge: - All Normal Type attacks are now Electric Type (for both pokemon)

As the pool and area surged with a strange electrical effect, Cat had kept note—the young girl's skin tingling from the static feel—"Alright, let's try and mix things up with a Metal Claw, Björn!" the young girl had called out, pointing forward as her Substitute-themed bracelet swayed along. While her Perrserker may not have exactly been the most excellent choice by means of pure types, Cat wouldn't dare even dream not trying to do her first challenge with any other pokémon! Her game plan having tossed to trying to trigger another attack raise despite the sheer type disadvantage she'd be facing.[break][break]

Heeding Cat's command, Björn had began his offensive, swinging vigorously with black-iron claws at the Lanturn with a leap from the stone pillar it stood upon to one further behind the Lanturn.

Honestly Freezy, my posts might get a little shorter, only because battles are kind of hard even if they're fun.

The Lanturn tried to react, dip deeper in the water, but Bjorn was faster. The Metal Claw scraped her back, making her yelp under the water and sparks of electricity ripple off her body.

"You took that good, Lamp! Hit back! Bubblebeam!"

Since the kid's gloves (ha) were off and the first actual attack landed, Temp was more comfortable actually calling out an attacking move. Lamps chirped under the water before a torrent of stinging bubbles shot from her mouth, aimed at the Perserrker.

"Brace yourself, Björn!" Cat had shouted out, the Perrserker taking a steady stance as the Bubble Beam burst out from beneath the water—taking it head on, faith in his trainer, and fully aware of what was coming next—with a determined look in her eye, Cat had pointed forward, "Metal Burst, Björn! Hit 'em back just as hard!" she'd called, the Perrserker attempting a counter-offensive, claws glowing a spectacular sheen as it seemed to draw power from the attack that had struck the viking cat.[break][break]

In an act of sheer bravado, the Perrserker had dived into the water claws first at where he believed the Lanturn was hiding, slashing and striking as he dove!

Lamp tried to swim out of the way, but once again the cat was a little too fast for her. She ended up getting hit by the attack, feeling the echo of her own attack lashed back. How dare the kitty cat!

Sadly, since Bjorn had tried to be brave, he was now in her domain.

"You're doing good, Lamp! Light 'em up!" Temp called out to his pokemon, his own instruction. Lamp sparked slightly before a powerful shockwave of electricity ripped off of her with a Discharge. It electrified the whole of the pool, which would be an issue unless Bjorn could get out in time.

"Hey! Hey! Hey! Björn, that's not a good idea! Get out of the water quick!" Cat shouted frantically. Whether it was the water and chaos of battle muffling her voice, or simply the Perrserker being just too slow, it a simple fact that the water was the Lanturn's territory. Naturally, the Perrserker had been struck by the sudden Discharge, surges of electricity coursing through the water and the Perrserker as it clawed its way to the closest pillar desperately.[break][break]

"Björn, are you alright?!" Cat called out with worry, his health and safety her top priority, though after making his way to dry land, the viking cat had given his trainer what resembled a thumbs up—despite the lack of a thumb—before taking a quick breath to continue.[break][break]

"Alright! We gotta look for another opportunity, Hone Claws and be ready to jump out from any attacks! Water's dangerous!" Cat suggested, none of the moves that her Perrserker knew could be used without making contact—and diving into the water was a bad idea from what they'd just experienced. The best they could do is be on guard and look for a chance to attack again without putting themselves in danger too.

Temp tilted his head and raised a brow, watching closely as @cat interacted with her pokemon; more focused on that than the battle for a few moments.

When it seemed like the heat had died down, Temp laughed loud suddenly and clapped his hands together a few times. Absolutely delighted.

"Looks like you might have figured it out, Cat!" But what had she maybe figured out? Well, Temp would keep that to himself for now.

"Lamp, Aqua Ring!" The Lanturn chirped again as a sphere of healing water surrounded her. It was hard to see from out of the water but it was there.

"Eh? Figured something out?" Cat had thought on the gym leader's words carefully, but in all honesty, she couldn't quite think of what Mister Temp had meant—she hadn't been trying to do anything different after all. Though, as she thought about it and assessed the situation, she'd wondered.[break][break]

Racking her mind, Cat had scruffed up the back of her hair—jostling loose a couple locks from her twin tails. Strategically speaking, she was at a loss, while she'd been adamant in using Björn and confident in his abilities, as confident as she was, nothing was going to change the fact that he was a close quarters fighter, and while he was a good swimmer, it wasn't realistic to assume he could outmaneuver a water pokémon in its own element. She didn't even want to consider the idea of brute forcing her partner through basically being in a bath tub with a sentient toaster.[break][break]

"Hmmmm..." she glanced at the stone pillars, perhaps she could break those and try to restrict the Lanturn's movements? Or more drastically drain the pool, though she'd quickly banished the thought, there was a battle of course, but she could seriously injure that Lanturn or damage Mr. Temp's property doing that. With a sigh followed by a cheerily laugh, she'd proudly declared,[break][break]

"Mister Temp! I think I'm going to forfeit! You got me good! We're at a standstill but there's nothing I can really do without risking hurting Björn or your Lanturn badly and a win like that's not worth it for me. I'm not sure what you meant by me figuring something out though..." Cat had shouted out.

"Hwah?" Temp was... well, surprised, if he was making noises like that!

But, you know, @cat was right now that he thought it over. OOC, Yams still felt bad for accidentally fucking Freezy over with types, but it would all work out in the end. So Temp rubbed his chin and thought about how to proceed...

"You know... I think you deserve the Badge for being so responsible, Cat!" Is what he finally decided, huge grin on his face. Calling back Lamp, he started to make his way around the side of the pool and towards to young girl. "My Badge is all about forward thinking and assessing situations fully, which I think you did! Someone who wasn't doing that would have kept going and tried to push their pokemon too far. So..."

A blue Badge was taken out of his pocket, which he offered to the girl.

"Catalina Cross, you've earned the Shell Badge! Do you accept?"
