The deafening kind. The kind that is only interrupted by the faint and distant sound of falling water.

So, he focuses on this sound, because there shouldn’t be silence right now.

Silence is wrong.

Silence is not what he had wished for when the idea of spending a weekend at the hot springs had been suggested to CIAN MAHER with a smile as they discussed vacation plans. And yet, here he is: alone in the quiet stillness of this warm pool, only silence and heat keeping him company.

What was supposed to be a relaxing weekend has only added to his stress, and no amount of time spent in the sauna or getting massages seems capable of making all that fade away.

[attr="class","cian"]cian had planned on skipping the entire vacation altogether. he has no one to blame but himself as the consequences of his actions have eventually caught up to him. it was foolish of him to think that he could outrun them indefinitely.

but he could not shake the guilt nor the thought of how mars deserves better.

so the silence is soon interrupted by the opening of the door. with a towel wrapped around his waist, cian offers mars an apologetic smile as he approaches. the steam isn't nearly enough to hide the bruises on his face.

"i think i'm a little late."

It’s the sound of Cian’s voice that pulls him back from the depths of his thoughts, because this is a sound that has become all too recognizable.

At first, he thinks it to be no more than his imagination, but he quickly corrects himself: outdoors as they are, there’s a faint echo against stone, and this is too real to be a cruel trick played by his mind.

Eyes open, and his honey-coloured gaze falls upon a familiar sight…

Or, not all that familiar, since Cian doesn’t usually smile like that, and he definitely doesn’t usually look like someone just beat him up.

Is he alright?

Instead of asking, a hand is extended towards him even if there’s no way he can reach him from within the hot spring, concern painting its colours upon Mars' expression. ”Come?”

He knows he has every reason to upset, he knows he should be after Cian called off their plans at the last minute and is now showing up without a warning when the weekend is almost over. But, how could he be upset? Not when Cian looks like this. Not when his smile is so apologetic.

the distance between them is closed. his hand slips into mars' as he steps into the water, slow at first to adjust to the heat, but it doesn't take him long to adjust.

"i missed you."

the heat from the steam causes the still healing wound on his lip to sting a bit; he winces, though plays it off with a chuckle.

Probably. Especially considering the vacation plans they have, and the fact that Cian really needs to stop ignoring Team Rocket’s orders. For his own sake... because things could get much worse and Mars really doesn’t want to think about what the consequences will be next time he does something foolish like ditching a job.
