As seemed to be the case over the past week, he had spent the better part of his afternoon searching through Mt. Pyre. Mornings at work had been filled to the brim with tasks to make up for the lost time, and after a long day, Mars really finds himself in need of the can of cold brew in his hands.

An old, worn-out path had led him down the mountain to the sea, and after crossing over to 121, Mars walks among lush trees just as the skies begin to be painted in the warm colours of a setting sun.

It’s quiet. Not the kind of silence he dreads but the peaceful kind. The kind that comes with the whispered lullaby of nature; the rustling of leaves, the snapping of twigs, and the distant sound of nearby pokémon.

As if on cue, fluttering wings indicate the presence of a Woobat flying by, and while Mars takes a second to watch the pokémon, he then pays it no mind.

What happens next is unexpected, and it could even be called a complication.

Mars is familiar enough with the sight of a Sigilyph (being that he has his own, that is) that he can easily recognize what they look like, and more importantly, what their colours are like. The one that passes near him on this darkening evening is different from most. It’s unusual. It’s rare.

That greed that marks many of his actions shows itself clearly, and for a moment, Mars considers going after the Sigilyph. To catch it. To add it to his collection. Maybe even to trade it away or to sell it. There’s value to this pokémon.

But, he’s not here for that, is he?
[break][break]
He’s here to find Unown, and he must remain resolute on this path he has chosen.
[break][break]
So, he forces himself to let the rare and potentially-quite-valuable pokémon fly away.

It’s not a happy moment.

As he continues to walk, it doesn’t take long for night to finally fall, and the realization hits that maybe he should have gone after that Sigilyph after all.

Especially when all he finds down his path is a sleeping Oranguru.

Not a pokémon he wants, nor a pokémon he cares for, and yet without catching it, coming all the way here would be for nothing.
