A single, sharp bark rings out from behind the door. There's a long pause and the rattle of a deadbolt before the door unlocks to reveal Gavin's silhouette against the frame.

"Saoirse."

He sounds surprised, but not unhappy to see her.

"Come in. I was in the middle of cooking dinner; that's why it took so long to answer."

A hearty aroma wafts from the direction of the kitchen, which he leads the way toward after letting her in and locking the door behind them. His Lycanroc have learned to keep their distance from guests but the red eyes of the pack's leader piece from the hall.

His Riolu has no such qualms about space, her short tail wagging as she yips a greeting.

Gavin turns the stove back up and sits at the island. He seems relaxed, absent of the usual stiffness in his movements.

"Something up?"

Gavin's lip twitches at the sound of his name.

Here, in his house with his sister and with his real name on her lips, he can almost pretend they're normal. It's nice.

"You're welcome to stick around. Made more than enough."

He tended to cook in batches so that he wasn't delegated to shitty food when his schedule got too busy to keep up with a routine.

"Temp'll be over later but he's working right now."

So they had some quality time to themselves before Tempest Quinn swung by.

Her question sees Gavin cant his head before pulling the strange device he'd received from his pocket and opening it up. There's been only one new entry since he'd checked it last.

"Not much," he admits. "Just that scanning them unlocks new entries. I only had the one, but it seems to update the whole database when anyone with access scans one in."

Gavin blinks in the face of her severity.

"It's information, regardless of whether or not I understand it. As for why it's in my house: because I'm in my house."

He kept it on him, just in case something interesting happened, because this was Hoenn and you never knew when the city you lived in would literally flip upside down and rearrange itself at its leisure. Or sprout a massive tree out of nowhere.

He glances out the window toward said tree, its towering trunk dominant against the landscape.

Then he looks back to Lulu Flint and shakes his head.

"No, I don't, do you? You seem awfully worked up about it."

Lulu Flint's own paranoia sparks his own, but Gavin doesn't rid himself of the device. If this lead to something important, Rocket needed to know about it.

His brow furrows.

"Dark Triad?"

Nothing comes to mind, and another glimpse at the device shows it has nothing to do with the report. He glances back up and shakes his head again.

"No. Where'd you hear about it?"

Gavin swallows down the lump that forms in his throat at the mention of THEO BECKETT. What was she doing with his phone? He thinks of seeing them together at the Soiree and decides it's better not to ask.

He's seen so little of Lulu Flint, lately; the last thing he wants is to start a fight over his own broken heart.

But perhaps the sister who'd grown up in his shadow would be able to recognize the flash of pain in his eyes, nevertheless, note the hard bob of his throat as he swallows down bitter feelings.

It's replaced by surprise at the mention of Rowan Wrynn.

"Huh. He didn't mention it to me." Why? "I didn't even know he'd been to the Cave of Origin. Would've been nice to know before the Sootopolis op."

"Now I know."

And he'd be talking to Rowan Wrynn about it in due time. Not a confrontation, he tells himself, just a talk. It's not as if Gavin can fault his brother for keeping secrets from Rocket when he'd kept his own identity a secret for them for most of his life.

He thinks of Walsh bending the shadows to reflect his own face and goosebumps pimple his skin.

Can she do that, too?

But he doesn't ask, because he'd sworn to keep it their little secret.

"If they were hiding it in the Cave of Origin, yeah, probably not." The Cave was theirs to explore, now. Their city, a bastion of Rocket's growing power in the region. Pride kindles low in his chest. He gestures to the logo featured on the device. "Is this their logo? The 'Triad'?"

Of Sootopolis, he grimaces.

"Just another day in Hoenn," is dry, but he adds, "I keep expecting it to happen again. We still have no idea what caused it, or why."

He has dreams about it. Nightmares.

"His family's."

The other side of it, the side they weren't a part of.

"Did he tell you anything about it?"

Gavin doesn't bother hiding the suspicion in his tone. Not from her.

"They were trying to build a purification machine. The Wrynns. That's why Rowan was asking questions about shadow Pokemon. That's why I hunted him down. I got him to give me their files. I still have them. I don't know if any of it's related to the Dark Triad, but I can give you access to what I have."
