There's an alien in her apartment.[break][break]

It sounds so absurd. And if it weren't for the purple gremlin currently zipping around her bedroom, Luka wouldn't believe it herself.[break][break]

She's tried everything she can think of to deal with it. At first she'd been a gracious host, giving the Pokemon snacks and a place to spend the night. And then she'd woken up with her refrigerator door open and the alien sitting smugly in the vegetable crisper, snacking on slowly spoiling food. Apparently this was the type of creature one isn't supposed to feel past midnight- or at all. Because they either like her or simply like messing with her and day after day, despite Luka's best efforts, they keep coming back. Stealing her food, spraying goop everywhere, harassing her and her Pokemon, all while giggling like mad. And while Luka can't understand whatever they're saying when they taunt her, it all sounds like an insult.[break][break]

It's been like this for weeks. Even saintlike patience has it's limits, and Luka finds that hers is growing dangerously thin. It comes to a head one hazy evening- the Pokemon had gotten into her things and floats around with one of her bras on their head, giggling behind their hands while she chases after it. She lunges at them, fingers this close to reclaiming her lingerie, but the alien zooms towards her closed window instead.[break][break]

The window breaks. Glass shatters outwards onto the street, a glittering rain that would be beautiful if it wasn't so dangerous. Luka shouts a vague warning and leans out, praying that no one's been hurt by all the broken glass. All the while, the purple menace squeals in delight and turns somersaults in the air, crowing over their victory. The raucous display is drawing attention from people on the street, and Luka wants to die knowing they can see her, but she keeps reaching out in an attempt to coax the Pokemon back inside.[break][break]

They just giggle again and blow a raspberry, zipping down towards the pavement to swoop over the heads of a few passerby.

kyle bursts into the scene with the silvally in tow. he responds to a report of a nearby place being attacked by a renegade ultra beast as the nearest officer in the area. his business casual attire shows that he's been on a different business prior.

he springs into action quick. the champion whistles for the silvally to take action and leaps forward, attempting to tackle the poipole down to the ground.

its biology of being a beast killer triggers an instinct that pushes the pokemon's limits to the extreme in the face of one such creature from ultra space. bloodthirsty as it is for them, the artificial pokemon still was conditioned to finalize actions based on its trainer's commands.

while the pokemon deals with the poipole, kyle notices someone else chasing after it.

"ma'am?" he inquires as he briskly walks to her. "do you know where this poipole came from?" he already has forgotten that he had met her during the hoenn star tournament, though that is the case for most people.

It takes Luka all of a minute to throw a cardigan over her pajamas, shove her feet into some slippers and bolt out the door. She really hates going out looking like such a mess, but she has no choice.[break][break]

Outside, a chase ensues. The Poipole, who's just trying to have a bit of fun, screeches in protest when they're attacked by Kyle's Silvally. They respond by spitting poison and cackling as they spin in circles around Silvally's head, darting in close and then zipping back. But eventually Silvally's tackle makes contact, and the alien falls to the ground with another unhappy cry.[break][break]

Luka arrives on the scene a few moments later. Upon seeing her, the Poipole cries out in distress and waves their tiny arms around.[break][break] "Wait, wait!" She's rather breathless as she stares after the alien, who's still wearing her bra on their head. "Yes- I mean, no, I mean...t-they came from my apartment, but I'm not sure where they're really from..." Luka trails off, gesturing vaguely with her hands. "You said...what did you call them? A purple? Please, um, t-they're a bit of a pest, but I don't think they're a bad alien..."

his silvally was ready to fire another attack at the ultra beast when she claims ownership of it. kyle casually wraps his arm around its neck, stopping it from acting on its instincts as a beast killer.

"so you're saying it's a stray?" he asks.

the silvally glares at the poipole, fighting the urge to maul it after being constrained by its trainer. kyle could feel the rumbles of suppressed growling on his arm, but he has enough confidence to feel safe having an aggressive alien beast on a hold.

he takes a moment to stare at the poipole. it's definitely much more docile than the ones that leaked out of ultra space. he guesses it might have been one of the ones taken into custody by the league after the three-day war and has ran away from a previous trainer or something.

either way, it's not supposed to be out in the public.

"what do you think we should do then? it's not really a pokemon we can let roam around hoenn ecosystems."

kyle waits for suggestions since protocol for any wild poipole is too troublesome. sedating it with a dose of antidote specially concocted to tame these beasts, getting it down for a checkup, finding a suitable trainer for it, etcetera, etcetera... just thinking of the work involved makes his head hurt.

"A stay? I guess so..."[break][break]

Poipole continues to whine and flail underneath Silvally, spraying more goop in the process. Their usual gleeful expression is replaced by dismay. Even though the beast has been nothing but a pain ever since Luka first encountered it, she can't help but feel bad for them.[break][break]

"They, um, just turned up in my apartment one day," she explains. "And they've showed up a few times since then...probably because I gave them some food." She laughs sheepishly and rubs at her neck.[break][break]

"W-what I mean is, I guess I should take responsibility? But I have no idea what to do..." Poipole is attempting to drag their way out from underneath Silvally now and tries to poke the oversized canine with the needle atop their head.[break][break]

"Is, um...i-is this kind of Pokemon dangerous?" Luka asks, wringing her hands. "What did you mean by all that?"

"short answer: yes. it's not supposed to be on hoenn, or, well, this world at all."

he scratches his head, somehow forgetting that crazy shit happens in this region every once in a while that anything short of cataclysmic is eventually overshadowed by yet another event. a remedial lesson was fine for him.

"more detailed explanation is that it's an invasive species from ultra space whose ownership is regulated by the league. if you watched the news, it was a pokemon used by alien invaders when they instigated a war here on hoenn. most that remained here after the war ended were pacified by a special antidote. they're cool though."

he'd explain more about how dangerous these creatures from ultra space were, but it's too much talking and most of it's going to end up in the umbrella terms of 'dangerous' anyways.

the nostalgia of the thrill lightens his mood a bit.

"do you want me to elaborate further why this pokemon needs to be under a trainer's care, or otherwise, it's going to be kept under league supervision?"

'please say no, please say no...'

Luka's head reels.[break][break]

There had been little coverage of Hoenn's war with Ultra Space in Kalos. If Luka strains herself she can vaguely remember mentions of a conflict, but few details. It makes sense, in a way— such news would likely cause an international panic. Or perhaps she had just been too absorbed in her own issues to pay much attention.[break][break]

"I see...I'm not, um, from here. I'm sorry! I just didn't know..." She glances over at the Poipole again. So they're from another dimension? A different universe? It's all a little too science fiction for her to process right away, but at least she understands the important part.[break][break]

This alien needs to be supervised, and properly."I...I-I think I get it though," she says slowly. "But, um..." The little beast will probably be safer with the league. She's still a rookie, barely able to handle her own rag-tag team of baby Pokémon. She's never won a battle against another trainer. A Pokémon like this, who needs extra care and attention...it's probably out of her depth, isn't it?[break][break]

"The thing is, monsieur, I'm not a very good trainer. So I think it might be best if—"[break][break]

With a loud cry, Poipole finally manages to squirm out from underneath Silvally. With a shriek, they race towards Luka, their shining needle razor-sharp and pointed right at her.[break][break]

But rather than attack, the purple alien instead clings to her arm and hides behind her back, shaking their head adamantly and scowling over at Kyle.

kyle turns his head away and scratches the back of his head, as if suffering from second hand embarrassment, when the poipole cries for attention. he knows the feeling all too well without anyone explaining it.

he tugs the silvally back by its neck when it lunges forward that prevents it from going after the poipole. the silvally growls, leaving a parting shot of a threat, before retreating to its ball like a puppy seeing a leaf pile.

the turn of events leaves kyle with a sigh.

the silvally is taken out of its hiding by kyle and is called back to the field. hostility was still there, but bashfulness was apparent after its tantrum. still, kyle needs to have it out, for safety protocols, despite still physically reeling it back with an arm around its neck.

"best if what? go on."

a smirk comes out to partner up with kyle's bored eyes. he already has the means to dismiss any worry and get the whole case closed, though curiosity wonders how she'd react to the poipole's apparent distress.

"Best if...if someone more qualified takes care of them..."[break][break]

Her resolve wavers with every syllable. Poipole continues to tug at her arm, their squeaky protests sounding more like pleas with every second that goes by. And Luka, ever the tender-hearted fool, melts.[break][break]

"But...I guess...if they seem to like me..." The decision isn't made in so many words, but Poipole seems able to tell that they've won. They shriek out a happy crow of victory and fly circles around Luka's head before tumbling into her open arms, going in for a snuggle. As they nuzzle against her, Luka has to admit that the little terror is quite adorable.[break][break]

And she laughs despite herself, patting their head and reclaiming her stolen lingerie in one fluid motion. She stuffs it into her pocket, star-spotted cheeks alight.[break][break]

"Um! Sorry, I'd hate to take up any more of your time!" She address Kyle again, shifting Poipole's weight in her arms so she's holding them like a baby. "But do you have any, erm...any advice on how to take care of something like this?"

kyle gets the result he expects, with his amusement with the situation getting better when the poipole seems to double up on it. kyle is nice enough to try and ignore her lingerie at least, so it balances out the maliciousness.

"if it makes you feel more confident, you just need good psychic- or ice-types moves to handle them."

kyle misunderstands the question, but gives her an objective answer nonetheless. standards for handlers were getting low anyways that kyle's certain even someone with minimal knowledge for raising pokemon can be qualified.

he leans on his sivally from trying to wrestle it to deter it from charging (though it doesn't seem like the pokemon was getting any more aggressive towards the ultra beast). crossing his arms, he tries to think of tips.

"they're just like any other pokemon..." kyle was being subjective at this point. "higher ups are just making a fuss because nothing much is known about them even though every other pokemon are just as dangerous..."

he tilts his head up when he gets an answer, although various assumptions were already considered before giving the advice.

"oh, my advice is to have an antidote like this ready!" he pulls out a small vial containing a liquid. "almost every poipole has been administered with this to make them tamer for trainers. good for emergencies as a makeshift tranquilizer. also works with their alien poison."

the last bit was most likely the intended use though.

Luka listens to every tip with rapt attention, carrying all the markings of one that was something of a teacher's pet in her youth. But it's really in her best interest to take everything in, absorbing information like a sponge. Pyschic moves, ice...okay, that she can do. She had noticed that whenever Poipole used to break into her apartment, they would flee when Plum made an appearance. She had always wondered why they were afraid of her Musharna— now, it makes more sense.[break][break]

Poipole notices that the Silvally is being prevented from attacking. Secure in the comfort of Luka's arms, they cackle and blow a raspberry at the oversized puppy. They continue to taunt and tease until Luka shakes her head and pokes them gently on the forehead, but they still get in one last raspberry before settling down with a pout.[break][break]

"I'm glad they're less dangerous," Luka admits with a breezy sigh, "But are they all quite so...mmn. Mischevious?" Maybe, maybe not— perhaps it's just her luck to have attracted the attention of this little gremlin.[break][break]

"And how do you, um...get it? The antidote, I mean. Like, can I ask for some at the pharmacy, or the Pokémon Center, or..." She trails off with a soft laugh, shaking her head. "Mn. Probably not, right? I'm sorry for asking so many questions! I just want to make sure I can care for them well enough..."

he ponders on his own naganadel's behavior, but finds nothing strange outside of a quiet little dragon bug that does nothing but follow instructions. maybe luka's was the different one.

"they- i mean, mine isn't." he did get favoritism on his wherein only the best was distributed to him. can't say others got the same treatment though. "yours probably had a low concentration dosage or something, like a factory defect, before you got it, but don't worry about it."

what's the worst that can happen? it reverts back to its old wiring and it suddenly hungers for flesh as per their cannibalistic handlers' training steered them to? while the subject was an interesting topic, kyle still had to answer inquiries.

"oh, they aren't usually given out to the public since they're not really that easy to make," he reveals. "just ask me when you need them and i can get the labs to manufacture some. they only really need one shot of that in their lifetime to be honest, so that's just for emergencies."

he smiles with the apology, since it's really awkward to respond to one without having to say 'it's okay' or 'no problem' multiple times. instead, he takes out his phone fumbles through his contacts for a new entry, inviting her to input her number in there.

"if you want, you can just send me a message of all your questions. i'll try to answer them if i can."

he'd rather type things out than verbally talk huge paragraphs after all.

So hers is a misfit, then? Somehow, that endears the Poipole to her even more. Maybe some tender loving care is all they'll need to warm up to her and stop misbehaving so much. Or they end up eating her alive. You win some you lose some, right?[break][break]
"Oh, I see! That makes it much easier, definitely. And, um, t-thanks again for all your help! I don't mean to be a pain...b-but I really appreciate it."[break][break]
He offers his phone, but her hands are occupied with a squirming alien. Luka shifts her weight so she's holding Poipole over her shoulder, and they cling to her shoulder like an infant might, purple tail waggling playfully. It nearly smacks her in the face.[break][break]
Nervous laughter spills into the air as she takes the offered phone. Whatever, cool, she's just trading numbers with the Champion of Hoenn. No big deal. [break][break]"I'll try not to bother you too much," she promises, pastel fingertips clicking quickly against the screen. "There! Um, I don't have my phone on me, so if you just send a message I can save it later."

he groans as luka's words stir up certain names in his head. "people who don't acknowledge help are more of a pain, you know?"

in a way, he's one of those, or at least, he swore he was. things were just easier getting people if people assisted him on mundane things.

kyle takes his phone back as soon as she finishes. he double checks it himself as he checks the name she typed in. the accent on the surname gets him and makes him wonder if it's actually pronounced that way, or if she's just being stylish.

he blinks at luka's recommendation and does it immediately. a quick message was constructed and then sent to her inbox to be saved later.

"there. sent." his phone quickly gets shoved back to his pocket before he turns back to luka. "oh, and one last thing: if you see any of these guys around-" he swings his arms across the silvally's neck. "-don't get your poipole out. they're, like, prey to them."

In her apartment, a music-box chime announces a new text message. Later, Luka will giggle to herself while saving Kyle's number into her phone.[break][break]
But for now she merely absorbs Kyle's last piece of advice like an overeager sponge.[break][break]
"I see...um, gosh! Well, I'm glad nothing of the sort, um, you know..." She gestures vaguely with her free hand and holds her Poipole a little tighter with the other.[break][break]
"But thank you, again! I'll, um...well, I'll see you around, I guess?" Probably not. She almost winces at how cloying she sounds. "That is, um...take care!"[break][break]
With a final nod and a flick of bubblegum hair, Luka turns around and flees back into the safety of her apartment.
