A spare Pokeball serves as a vacuum, cleaning up his landing spot and securing his footing. When it bounces back into his hand, he pockets it, turning to stare at Katherine from a few meters out.

“Fairburne,” he greets in monotone, unfazed as the Salamence cranes its neck over his shoulder.

THE THRILL OF THE HUNT REEKS FROM THE DRAGON’S MAW. With a brush of his hand, he dismisses the dragon to do as it likes. A pointed glare it thrown toward the Ultra Beast but watching it make short work out of the Misdreavus deters the dragon from lashing out.

Instead, it looks to divert their challenge elsewhere. A mumbled snarl is its only warning before it takes off, preying on a roosting Swoobat. Leathery wings are punctured as the greater dragon delivers a bone crushing CRUNCH. Like kyle lopez’s dogs, the Pokemon seems proud to bring back its new chewtoy.



Disgust fills the crinkles of his frown. He disappears the sight with an empty Pokeball, pocketing it as his attention turns. That same distaste seems to evolve when his eyes trace the outline of her figure, glowering more toward disapproval rather than outright loathing.

“I could say the same, Fairburne,” a stark reminder of his more recent company twists that same frown into an ill fitted smirk.

“I heard you’ve been busy—what with the prestigious and respectable position you hold, Miss League representative.”

SALAMENCE HUFFS. To think that a mere insect could be quicker and cleaner makes the dragon nauseous. More so than how it had left Fernando, quick to forget about its trainer as it undertakes freya morningstar’s principles. It is more than just a Pokemon.

It’s a predator.

Flames cut through what little grass sprouts between damp pockets of crag and crust. They burn through the Hypno’s mane, unrelenting, as the dragon hoses down its opponent in a haze of smoke and fire. The intensity goes beyond what is measured, crackling as a warning for its competitor.



“Ah,” his eyes narrow as they trace over familiar words and a loading screen he knows all too well.

“I has it as well. Picked it up from the cafe we worked at.”

He doesn’t bother withdrawing his phone. Showcasing what she’s already seen is both an insult to his time and her intelligence. More importantly, he’s more fixated on what hers has and if there’s any distinct different.

“Do you remember the text I sent you about the anti-Avatar group? It’s the same logo.” He clicks his tongue. “I saw them again on Mount Chimney.”

But that doesn’t explain the device.

“It’s like a Pokedex but for Unown. I’ve registered two and it reveals words associated with it. The concurrent theme seems to be scientific terms. Mostly those that relate to space.”

The sound of his Salamences FLAMETHROWER proves distracting. With an equally annoyed glare, he looks to silence it by throwing a Pokeball at the distraction.

“But they’ve distributed enough of them that it’s impossible to stop its completion.” A fact that’s becoming abundantly clear as new entries pop up with each passing day. He’s only contributed twice but the collective majority has seemingly completed the alphabet.

“I’ve made a small contribution to keep tabs on it. I would suggest you do the same, if you can, just to be involved.”

The same cannot be said for the wild Pokemon around them. Anything that enters their newfound territory is subjected to the constant competition between a Salemence with a fragile ego and a bedazzling Ultra Beast. Not one to be usurped, the dragon ZEN HEADBUTTS the largest Pokemon in view. This just so happens to be a Grumpig.

“I assume your old employer is doing the same? Keeping tabs on our illustrious heroine?”

His Pokeball pops with his question, suggestive with a tease that comes a question that’s been asked too many times to count.
