The Ultra Beast makes quick work of the DRIFLOON in a flurry of merciless, unrelenting kicks. One after another, they drive the point home until the ghost-type faints— moments before it can attempt to drift away.

“Really, you don’t think they miss me because of my charming personality? My brilliant looks?” She scoffs, knowing that an answer to her question wasn’t necessary. It certainly had nothing to do with either of those things.

“I do think that there’s more to it than just power, though." They’re starting to realize that not everyone who’s at the top of their hierarchy is deserving of their status.

And frankly, she agrees.

As usual, Fernando is right. She does know better.

They want it because they think it’s the only thing they can have. The only thing that can uplift them.” Which, to some extent, is true. It was definitely the right direction but it’s far from the only thing those outcasts needed.

”I beg to differ. It’s never been us or them except for when it’s convenient. It’s yourself or everyone else. The majority of Rocket just wants to further themselves.”

Which is both fair and admirable. It’s the most human thing one can pursue, isn’t it?

An Unown floats by, finally, revealing one of their coveted letters. It aimlessly floats around as if eavesdropping on the conversation, but Phermosa is quick to apprehend it. Not because it’s asked to, but because it’s been tamed to.

“Mmhm. It’s a shame they’ll realize that only when it’s too late.”

Kick after kick, the Ultra Beast proves the sort of rigorous training it’s been put under by the Elite Four. No longer was it a spoiled, delicate hatchling. It was terrifying. Before the Unown disappears into one of Kat’s pokeballs, she scans it with her device.

A smile follows her words, lips curling in an almost mischievous manner. When dealing with someone like Fernando, she likes to tease and prod. When someone is this insistent on keeping people at arm’s reach, when someone is this stern, cold, and even calculated…

There’s that age-old, familiar desire of hers. She seeks to elicit a reaction and spark an emotion, be it good and be it bad.

She says at last, if only to avoid having him repeat it. She didn’t need redundant praise or affection (of this type). Especially not from him. She bathes in the warm sunlight, rosy skin turning a darker shade of peach.

And then, completely unprovoked, one of the nearby Dreepys is assaulted and kicked into submissision by her ultra beast. Pheromosa unleashes her wrath time and time again, kick after kick. The alien’s merciless nature reveals itself each time a wild pokemon faints.

She breaks the silence following her confession almost immediately, as a memory of the soiree resurfaces. “—well, ignoring those we saw during the soiree… since they were different.” they were a surprise. And the only surprises that katherine liked came in the form of jewellery. Between the strange, unknown mist and the appearance of the unowns - she regretted accepting the invitation.

Fortunately, her beast is less concerned about such details and tends to the emerging Shedinja with a nimble kick that puts it to sleep. The pokeball thrown by her is a late one, but the confirmation of the capture comes in the form of a familiar sound all the same.
