By day, the town of Verdanturf and it's surrounding areas cast an aura of calming amongst its many visitors and homeowners. Unfamiliar with the cheerful atmosphere, Jackson had moved through the town like an awkward fish flopping out of water. Their preppy smiles and cheerful greetings had felt like stains on the frozen fractals of his heart, a constant reminder of the shame and guilt he still held after all these years. [break][break]

By night, however, the atmosphere of Verdanturf Town's outer edges seemed to change. Shadows crept through the forest, bathing the Earth in dark tendrils. Somewhere in the distance, a Noctowl screeched moments before the curdling death cry of a Rattata. Standing before Jackson was a large broken-down building with shattered windows and crude graffiti painted along the rotting side boards. A wooden front door squeaked on its hinges with every gust of wind that flashed through the forest. Why was he here? He couldn't quite remember. He'd been drunk at the bar, he'd gotten a text message on his phone - What did that say? - and now he was here. Something about investigating? Something about ...? [break][break]

He was still drunk, so did it really matter? He was already here - it had taken him forever to find this place - so now he might as well go inside. Jackson was sure he'd never find his way out of this forest right now anyway. [break][break]

Finally, he moved, unsteady foot steps taking him slowly up the front steps and slowly through the front door. [break][break]

He couldn't see shit here.
