this would be her first time entering the safari - the past choices having not at all captured her interest; so the free safari ticket that had been acquired some months ago had been left to gather dust. it was only very recently that she had collected it and surrendered the pass in exchange for three capsules.

'i hope this is worth my time.'

due to its overall popularity, cait highly doubted that it'd make for a wasted venture. and she even experienced a surge of excitement as she was given leave to enter, four recently acquired safari balls secured upon the waist of her belt.

"para," her companion crooned.

her parasect had been chosen as her companion primarily due to her wide range of debilitating moves. and cait would be able to more effectively avoid a fuss or a fight because of it.

"stay alert, parasect."

a natural silence held the park and cait was caught off guard by the serenity of it all. she had expected the area to be bustling with activity and for all manner of humans and their respective companions to be running about.

'i guess it isn't very busy today.'

either that or the safari's grounds were so large that she'd be hard-pressed to cross paths with a fellow customer.

'guess we won't have to worry about being interrupted, then.'

the fluttering of wings caused her gaze to snap upward, the sight of a bat with a heart-shaped nose having momentarily captured her focus.

'swoobat,' she identified. 'i don't think i've ever seen one this close before.'

she silently observed as it flew off in a seemingly random direction before pressing onward.

"that's a slurpuff."

her parasect shifted to get a good look at the pink creature, her milky white eyes reflecting a glimmer of curiosity. the pudgy fairy was likely in the midst of sleeping the day away, his little chest rising and falling as he softly snored.

'it's cute,' cait thought.

she left it be only after taking out her phone to take a picture. and as cait stuffed the device back into her trouser packet, she'd reassess her immediate surroundings. she had decided to aimlessly wander thus far and pondered over if she should continue doing so.

'i could just pick a direction and stick with it.'

"there's a patch of forest over there," she observed.

cait decided to approach the familiar terrain and eventually found herself upon landed that vaguely resembled the forests of her home.

"c'mere. stay quiet."

cait had glimpsed the grass-type after entering the more heavily forested area. she kept her profile small and the noise generated to a bare minimum as she sought out a form of cover.

"we don't want to scare her off."

the freckle-faced gym leader soon crouched behind a thick clump of shrubbery, heavily reliant upon what little cover there was to accommodate both herself and her companion. it proved moderately successful and she was thankful that they had managed to remain inconspicuous.

"when she gets a little closer you'll be using sleep powder."

cait fished out her breathing mask before securing it upon her face. once it was adjusted and firmly set she peered through thick foliage at the approaching figure. and once she was only a mere meter away -

"now."

parasect shuddered and released a plethora of powder that flowed toward the grass-type in a thick and potent wave. there was little time for the pokemon to respond to the hastily lain trap, those bright eyes growing round in alarm before falling shut as the toxin took effect.

"good job, parasect."

cait emerged from her hiding spot to approach the slumped over figure, her mask remaining in place while she examined the unconscious grass-type.

"pretty young," she assessed. "her flower looks like it just bloomed."

satisfied by her find, she'd retrieve a capsule from her belt before promptly triggering the capture mechanism in hopes of securing the flowering pokemon.

cait breathed steadily and without difficulty, her mask continuing to perfectly filter the air she took in. she had only just acquired the device a few days prior, the item having been developed by a league-affiliated scientist. on the market they were absurdly pricey, but she had acquired the superior and sleekly built model for free.

'that's one.'

she secured the capsule containing the slumbering pokemon onto her belt.

"let's keep moving, parasect. there's bound to be a few more around here."

the breed weren't renown for claiming territory for themselves and were notably pleasant toward one another. cait doubted that they'd be terribly spread out, so she kept to the general area.

'i'm not as good of a tracker as my dad is,' she thought. 'i really do need to ask him about teaching me a thing or two.'

cait was forced to aimlessly wander as she sought out another lilligant. there were signs of life, but she struggled to identify whether they had been left behind by the very pokemon she had only just caught a moment ago.

"lilll."

a soft noise that vaguely resembled a growl sounded and cait's head instantly snapped toward its source. the searched for lilligant glared at her, visibly hostile as they continued to release the noises of warning.

'this one's a little older. she doesn't look like the docile sort, either.'

"parasect."

she nodded to her pokemon and the creature promptly released their spores. unfortunately, it didn't appear to have any effect on the wild pokemon.

'leaf guard. that's definitely leaf guard.'

just as cait uttered an obscenity the creature lunged forward, intending to retaliate against the pair. the battle that ensued was not as one-sided as she would have hoped. without being able to utilize a majority of their move pool, the parasect was limited to screech and slash. cait had decided to make do and instructed her companion to whittle away at the grass-types defenses before slashing with her mighty pincers.

the lilligant fell but not without inflicting a decent amount of damage to her bug-type.

"let's get this capture out of the way," cait said, her voice sounding odd as she spoke beneath her mask. "i'll get you a potion afterward, girl. and then we can rest up for a bit."

she tossed her second capsule.

if someone ever went to r/awfuleverything it's very much possible that this shit would pop up first.

everything about it offends cait. if she was ever reincarnated into the worst thing imaginable it'd be this shit.

and what is it even doing in the middle of the forest?

arceus made a mistake.

everything about it was blasphemy and she found herself just running away from the abomination that was - well - whatever the fuck that was.

after her unfortunate experience, she was very much relieved to encounter something both familiar and aesthetically pleasing.

"a roserade."

cait was in possession of one, and was familiar enough with the species to identify it as male. it appeared to be far more mild-mannered when compared her own, the creature appearing a bit wary as he eyed her before nodding his head politely at the human woman.

"good day," she greeted.

she and parasect passed him by, leaving the pokemon in relative peace as they ventured deeper into the forest. while capturing him proved tempting, she'd much rather use her dwindling supply of safari pokeballs elsewhere.
